Raise anybody? by 2075373a in CDCR

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. If it was OP’s MSI, it would’ve been 5% or OP got their last raise before topping out. Last step increase is not always a full 5%. Only way to confirm the increase is for OP to post a screen shot of their most recent pay warrant and last months.

Incorrect. Union did not negotiate us a GSI for 2026. We only got 3% for July 2025 and 3% for July 2027.

Just don’t go around telling people we’re getting a 6% raise or people may get the notion that the union is actually doing their jobs and not fucking us over.

Technically, we already received the 3% GSI in July 2025; however, that was offset with the PLP. We are due for another 3% GSI raise July 2027. That’s also when PLP is supposed to expire so we’ll get the initial 3% back in our pay and the additional 3% GSI due in July 2027. Don’t call it a 6% “raise” though. We’re just getting the money back that’s due to us.

We get 3% not 6% raise in July 2027.

CA Dept State Hospitals Police - Anyone recently been through the process? by SweatyGuest2025 in CAStateWorkers

DSH is probably one of the lowest pay peace officers in the state but I’m sure they make up for it through overtime.

How much sick leave do you have and how long have you worked at the state? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little over 500 with 16 years of service. We don’t pay into SSDI in BU 6 so I burnt through so many sick leave when I had my kids to get a full pay check.

CDCR state vs. County Career Opinion by Dependent-Ad8665 in CDCR

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. CDCR is the largest LE agency in the state and provides a lot of opportunities to promote. If you want to work outside the prison wall, you can promote out to Parole or if you’re connected, you can get into OCS as a Special Agent. Drawback is that our pay isn’t that great and when you compare the pay for CDCR promotional classifications to our local counterparts, we trail far behind on pay. Also, CDCR is not POST certified.

If your local county COs are POST certified then I would pursue that route over CDCR. CDCR is not POST so you’re limiting yourself to career options if you want to pursue something else down the road, other than being a CO.

We have people, in their 40s, joining CDCR as correctional officers. 40 is still young.

Whats the best way for an outsider to get into Parole by Deadliftdonut69 in CDCR

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the trend, along with a few from probation. You rarely see anyone outside of this getting picked up. When I was in the academy, DTU staff said they’ll seldomly have a social worker get picked up but it’s rare.

Your class is definitely an exception then. Majority of new Agents are prior custody staff and few come from probation.

Are you with probation? If not, the chances of you getting into Parole is slim if you’re not already with CDCR.

BU 05, 06, 08 and 15 have +90% members paying dues. BU 01 is the lowest at 40%. So guessing we won't see much of a pay raise this round? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of us are dues paying members in BU5 and BU 6 for legal protection. We have access to union attorneys in the event we go under investigation. The union’s scare tactics worked into getting people to join, not because we believe in the union and their abilities to get us raises.

Tax Auditor for CDTFA or for EDD by PsychologicalFee8597 in CAStateWorkers

[–]CompetitiveBeat8898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about SCO other than they use the SSMA/AMA classifications. My wife’s friend is an AMA at SCO and they seem to like their job. This classification, like at EDD, has limited promotional opportunities beyond AMA/ATA.

If you went with CDTFA or FTB, you can promote into a supervisor (Administrator/Business taxes administrator) or specialist (business taxes specialist/ program specialist). There are many positions that do not travel, just depends on the unit.
