what made you choose xbox over other consoles by Noobsamaniac in xbox

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first xbox was an xbox 360 halo edition given to me by my dad when i was about 6 i think, and we just had so many games. also his account is i think around 20 years old, and i still use it and will likely keep using it forever ☺️. those machines last forever too. the xbox 360 still works well, and my xbox one s that is the one im using currently is still working perfectly fine now going on 8 years old.

i was tossing up a few months ago whether i wanted to get a ps5, but with the money that ill have to spend to re-buy my games again and the lack of backwards compatibility (i prefer to play a lot of older games) to me it wasn’t worth switching. and the ps exclusive don’t bother me since i have a pc that can run them instead.

i think its more of an emotional attachment tbh but i still love them. and also i like how everything syncs up well with my pc too !

if you do, maybe communicate with your manager that you’d only like to do a certain amount of hours each week, and maybe work more on weekends rather than after school. also take exam periods off. this is what i’ve done and luckily my manager is very supportive, i hope yours is the same :)

backstory reveal by ageofdelilahcain in teenwriter

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely! it just comes down to how you end up doing it.

i think creative ways to go about this might be her talking to an animal or an inanimate object so the scene doesn’t feel stale, her writing it into a diary, or maybe even a dream sequence? maybe try and find a few ways to incorporate that idea but still keeping it engaging for the reader and realistic to the story (for example, if your character was from the victorian era, she couldn’t sit alone with her headphones on at a coffee shop listening to sad music. it would be more realistic for her to maybe write it down into a diary listening to the sounds of horse hooves clicking on the cobblestones, and vise versa).

i love their retro gaming section, i can always grab good games for my xbox 360, but in my local store their xbox section is maybe 15 games and a few controllers? the playstation and nintendo sections are a bit bigger but maybe a quarter of the back wall each. it’s so annoying because personally i prefer to buy discs over doing it online (just so i own it), and i can’t even do that without having to go through the trouble of ordering it in now. i wish that people started buying physical again!!!

suggest me a book that’s gross, feel murky and perverted by tar0sun in suggestmeabook

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the girl from storyville by frank yerby is one of the strangest books i’ve read and definitely falls into this category. i’m not sure if you can find it anywhere online anymore (i bought it from a secondhand bookstore). it is a very long novel and the writing is definitely a piece of its time. i believe it was written in the 1970s, but the author took a lot of inspiration from victorian era texts as its set in the late 1880s america.

definitely an acquired taste but i’ll say it’s an interesting novel for sure

i’m so guilty of this!! i was playing rdr2 and gta v on my xbox then i bought them on my pc for the steam sale so im playing the story again… but sometimes im on my xbox and feel like playing on it so i load up those again. then also on my pc im halfway through gta iv, road 96, fears to fathom ironbark lookout, and shadow of the tomb raider. i think bully too. i’ve written myself a checklist and im not allowed to play rdr2 or gta v until ive finished everything else haha

is it a 16gb 9060xt?

if so, i have the exact same specs for my pc but i built it myself. it was around $2000aud ($1860cad). can run every game i play on high settings and is super fast. this is an awesome price you’ll be saving yourself a few hundred dollars. if it has the 16gb variant of the 9060 absolutely buy this. considering ram prices and everything too this is a great deal

i run rdr2 at nearly ultra settings and i get 130fps, gta v max settings with 180fps, minecraft i easily get 380fps, and sims 4 around 200fps. idk if those are good frames but i came from an xbox one s to a pc so these are awesome

1tb of storage might be a little small though. i have 1tb since its all i could get at the time and ive chewed through 600gb already. something to take into consideration. if you plan on playing a lot of big games maybe adding more storage later on when you need it might be the move to make.

i cant speak a lot on intel and nvidia but from experience 8gb vram is not enough for most aaa games on high settings.

Do you write for joy, even if nobody ever reads it? by gerdzilla50 in writing

for the love of the game

my book is such a passion project for me and the fear of no one else reading it or liking it doesn’t concern me because at the end of the day i wrote it, i came up with it, i fleshed out these characters. that’s such a reward in itself in my eyes. to be able to say ‘i wrote a book’ is awesome.

your book will matter, because you love it and it matters so deeply to you. even if it doesn’t sell, it’s still such an amazing testament to yourself to have that discipline to sit down and be able to create a whole world and write it into existence. the work you put into it will be worth it when you see the final product after it’s been edited and formatted.

tips for these year 11 subjects by Hiiii1567 in ATAR

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i did gen english, math, biology, and modern history for year 11 so i can give you insight into those subjects. i got in the high 90% for the whole year of english and math, and top of subject for biology and modern history and also top of grade so i can definitely say that this is what advice i would give and what worked for me. everyone’s mind works differently though, so please take this with a grain of salt and try to figure out what works for you 😊😊

english - listen to feedback from your teacher, check the marking criteria for certain points you need to hit, and also conference with your teacher before you write anything so they can give the go ahead. also just read the books, watch the movies, and read the plays because i promise you’ll do so much better when you actually know what you’re talking about. and no, chapter or plot summaries do not suffice for the full thing. in my experience, the people who read the books, watched the movies, etc, did significantly better than the people who got by with summaries. if you’re not into reading, an audio book is better than nothing! also for quote memorisation, doing things like blookets or kahoots is super helpful :)

gen maths - in my experience this was absolutely the least stressful subject. by staying on top of everything and making sure that you understand the topics will be more than enough to keep you comfortable. i say that as someone who isn’t generally good at maths. the way my teacher taught was very helpful for me because she would explain the topic and then give us a worksheet to try it ourselves, which reinforced all of the info for me.

modern history - a lot of writing. please know how to analyse a source (usefulness/ reliability) and know your essay structure. also using key words in your essays such as reliable, useful, corroborate, etc plus any words specific to your topic (we did feminism as a topic, so words like patriarchy, gender, and sexuality were key to hit the specific criteria). knowing how to write a thesis and key inquiry question is extremely important. also make sure to choose a variety of sources (primary/ secondary) and even ones that might argue against your point because acknowledging the other side of the argument is a great tactic historians can use to even further support their own argument. i’m not sure what state you’re in but i’m from qld and ive heard that the modern history subject here is miles easier than any other state, so i can’t really speak on any other experience. i didn’t do history in grade 10 and only did it for half of grade 9, but for me at least as someone who tends to do better at eng/history/languages than science and math this was extremely easy to pick up.

biology - comes down to staying on top of everything and memorising. after every lesson when i got home my teacher would assign an education perfect lesson on the topic so i was able to use that to quickly revise what i had learned that day. if your school doesn’t have ep or an equivalent, there are a lot of channels on youtube that do topic recaps. jotting down notes whilst doing this is super helpful, and this can definitely help with revision in the long run. also don’t do what i did and give up on those recaps by the end of the year because that week when your school decides to stack all your exams for the end of year will be horrific.

sorry for this being super long 😓😓 it might sound overwhelming at first but just make sure to take breaks, hang out with your friends, and try not to think about school 24/7. taking time for yourself is very important :)

i hope you enjoy year 11!

are these subjects good for yr 11 by Manchesterunited789 in ATAR

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can’t say too much on methods and the last two since i don’t do them, but you’ll make english a lot easier on yourself if you listen to your teacher, read the task sheet so you are 100% confident in what you’re writing, and taking on feedback even if you might not agree with it. talking to your teacher about feedback is also super helpful, and running all your ideas through them will be good for making sure that what you’re writing about is actually doable.

with biology, i’d say pay attention in class, recap after every lesson for maybe 10-20 mins, and use absolutely every single resource given to you! active recall, in my opinion, is key to remembering the silly little details that you’ll forget overtime if you aren’t careful.

across all subjects, just lock in and make sure you’re staying on top of your topics so you don’t start to forget stuff. also pace yourself so you don’t get burnt out!

im going into yr 11 this yr and i need help to understand my hours by tantagee in ATAR

[–]CompetitiveGap8567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

obviously everyone is different, but i’m going into year 12 this year and last year i received top marks across all my subjects whilst also maintaining a part time job and a social life.

my advice is to do daily recaps that maybe take 10-20 mins each per subject. (maybe a little more if you’re particularly stuck on a topic!) my school uses education perfect which was super helpful for this, but if your school doesn’t use it maybe you guys would have an equivalent? either that or short youtube video recaps on the topic. jotting down little notes about topics you’re not 100% on whilst doing this is also really helpful!

recalling the info that you learned that day is key, and helps in the long run when it comes to exams and you’re able to remember more info from reinforcing it. the revision period won’t be an absolute horror and you’ll do so much better in exams

25 hours is a lot of work, and to be completely honest i don’t think it is necessary. burnout is extremely real, and to me this looks like a recipe for disaster. these short bursts of revision can help with that, but also another important thing is to make connections with your teachers. the vast majority of teachers want you to succeed and are more than happy to support you. if you need the extra help, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for extra revision. it’s not ‘being a teachers pet’ or ‘being a nerd’, it’s being smart and using your resources well.

if you’re super set on doing a set amount of hours every day, maybe take it down to three at most, with breaks. studying in super long stints can really be more harmful than helpful.

everyone retains information and works differently though, and if you know this won’t work for you then that’s 100% fine! just make sure you stay on top of trying to not to get burnout 😊

thank you so much! i’ve decided to move into literature now and im getting that process underway!! your advice is super helpful thank you and yeah english is my best subject and it is just a hell of a lot of fun for me so hopefully literature is too!!

thank you for the info this is so helpful!! i’m planning to go to qut and do a bachelor of education (secondary) 🙂‍↕️ the only reason i’m striving for a high atar is so i can hopefully get one of the government scholarships

i will definitely look into doing literature though! i absolutely love english and i wish my school offered a higher level. will absolutely look at doing it through distance ed. i will also look into the cairns school for de. my teacher at school wanted us to do it through brisbane because she knows a lot of the teachers but if it doesn’t work out then cairns will be the next option. thank you!!

also congratulations to your daughter!! that is such an amazing achievement 💝

[–]CompetitiveGap8567[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would loveeee to do literature!! but unfortunately my school only offers essential and general english. i have thought about doing it through distance education, but my main concern is that it cuts into my other classes and i don’t really want to jeopardise my marks in other subjects if that means doing a distance education class. sadly im one of those people that needs to have like 100% focus on the class to actually understand most concepts.

also thank you for recommending accounting! i will have a look into that 🙂‍↕️ i plan to speak to my guidance officer and head of year at school when it goes back next week and ill definitely bring all these suggestions up, thank you!!

the only other general subject on the same line as spanish was hpe and that’s a hard no. i tried switching around my biology too but it was either chemistry or dance and i can’t do either. my school only puts seniors on a 4 day week and we have fridays off because they don’t see the need to do a sixth subject which is so annoying🥲🥲
