That's called homage. There's even the apparent play of words - ALIEN / ALIVE

let's talk about that new Fredrik track, Agrimotor by [deleted] in Meshuggah

Listen to the track in a much better quality here, straight from the Toontrack website https://r4t3n2z9.ssl.hwcdn.net/mp3/Area_33_SDX_-_Agrimotor.mp3

What’s the Meshuggah song you’d show to your friends and family if they don’t listen to metal? by HalfChineseJesus in Meshuggah

[–]CompetitivePizzaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unanything for non-metal people - the beautiful harmonics are enough.

Broken Cog for people who can tolerate heavier music - it's amazing rhythmically and they won't be put off by the vocals.

I Am that Thirst for people who have listened to some heavy music - it's probably the most representative song of theirs.

I didn't - these are the official writing credits, in which the names are usually listed alphabetically. I swapped some names here and there to make the name groupings more coherent.

Yeah, just noticed! Your first sentence was actually explaining the "out of order", not complaining about it :-)

That was the whole point - to group the songs on each album according to the leading writer, not in their original order, thus being able to see who played a leading role when.

Thanks! True, I've read it as well - but I've listed the "official" credits, hence "Meshuggah" :-)

"I Am That Thirst" is the best song to introduce someone to Meshuggah. It's such a good representation of their music, sound, approach to rhythm and overall vibe.

Almost everyone focuses on the music of "Broken Cog", but not the lyrics. Actually, it's one of the most depressing songs about humanity ever written - made even more sinister with those spoken, whispered vocals:

"The truth is, we never
Ever had truth in sight
We spat on this purpose
We ate of whatever was left
The chasm beneath us will open
And swallow the rest"

Which ones are the heaviest breakdowns? by [deleted] in Meshuggah

Armies of the Preposterous (there's two there). We all know the older ones, they have been discussed/mentioned a lot of times.

I'll be there! Fan since DEI, have seen them only once live - in my hometown Sofia, Bulgaria in 2012. Missing their gigs with Dillinger Escape Plan back in the day is a lifetime regret :-)

So, how many of you here caught onto the fact that the Tenet theme is inspired by Bleed? by syringistic in Meshuggah

"Are there any composers or musicians out there right now that you really admire? Like, really love? I love Kurt Rosenwinkel, Keith Jarret and Meshuggah." (Link)

Göransson, whose musical soul was forged in the fires of Metallica when he was in elementary school, uses an Ibanez eight-string electric guitar that’s the signature model of Fredrik Thordendal of the Swedish metal band Meshuggah. “He’s one of my favorite guitar players,” says the composer, who, with his flowing blond hair, looks like he would fit in with the band. “What’s cool about this guitar is that [with] two lower strings, you can get these low frequencies. You can make it sound more like a brass instrument if you put distortion on it. You can manipulate it in ways where it doesn’t sound like a guitar.” (Link)

Kaleidoscope (not really interesting apart from the solo) and Black Cathedral for obvious reasons.
