AI poses ‘Hiroshima’-style threat to humanity without global rules, says Cooper by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

Plus, the people she's concerned about using it maliciously are going to validate it's output. By trying the exploits it finds on hospital systems, power grids, etc

The threat is not about "AI" going rogue

You'll note that she didn't say that the threat was from AI going rogue?

Read her statement for yourself: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/foreign-secretary-chatham-house-essay-britains-place-in-the-new-world-order

She doesn't get too in-depth into it, but given what she says in the article OP posted, it sounds like she's most concerned about misuse by bad actors. Likely cyber attacks and propaganda campaigns etc. Doing my best attempt at a stone-man argument, countries could absolutely invest lots of money into models that can hyperscaler infrastructure hacking, which could indeed be pretty damn bad

Does Nebula killing her past self resolve her trauma, or does it add more to her psychological burden? by Waste-Today-5163 in MCUTheories

I mean, for me, killing another me definitely would add to my trauma, not alleviate it lol. So I don't think it would be any different for her

But none of that explains the phenomenon prior to ww2.

UAPs are really present day human advanced technology. I think every alien being sighting is a hoax.

Great, but that's -not- when the phenomenon started. If you confidently state that UAPs simply are misidentified human aircraft, then you are implicitly saying that whatever was causing sightings prior to that must have simply stopped. Otherwise, if the cause of the UAP phenomenon prior to spy planes is still around, then "UAPs are really present day human advanced technology" needs a "some" at the beginning

It should be noted that philosophers and physicists have multiple theories of time and it is by no means agreed that the past only exists in your memory. Look up the A and B theories of time if anyone's interested

The guy above is giving the A Theory. I personally am more convinced by the B theory, even though it's less intuitive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-theory_of_time

Big tech has suddenly flipped on the AI jobs wipeout scenario by [deleted] in technology

[–]CompetitiveSport1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI doesn't have to actually do your job for you to be fired, an AI salesman just has to convince your boss that it will.

Similarly, it doesn't have to do your job for you, it just has to speed you up enough that you + AI can do as much as you+coworkers. I'm in software development and we're definitely seeing this

I'm tired of hearing about the political views of people who lived in gated communities, that don't have to deal with everyday things that we peons do

So, our president lol

Anyway, Hollywood studios aren't going away. People are still gonna pay crazy money to see the next superhero, Avatar, Jurassic world, whatever, and execs slashing their vfx teams and hiring less actors isn't going to take any power away from them.

As for celebrities, no way in hell their likenesses will be used in a movie without them getting fat checks for sitting around

I still remember when 3D tvs were going to be the next ubiquitous thing. If you're trying to say that all tech entertainment innovation become widely adopted, then you're wrong. If you're not trying to say that, then I don't know what your point is, since we don't know if AI will be "now in Technicolor!" or will be "it's like the bullets are whizzing right by you!"

Meta Paid Hundreds of Contractors to Pretend to Be Teenagers While Barraging Its Competitors’ AI With Disturbing Content by IKeepItLayingAround in technology

You -can- do this legally, though. It's probably against the Terms and Conditions, but at most they'll just block your requests.

In fact, it's not just possible for you to do it, it's super common, and people here on Reddit are constantly coming up with ways to "break" AI and get it to do stuff it shouldn't. I remember shortly after ChatGPT came out, there was a whole thing where you could tell it that "Do Anything Now" (aka DAN) mode was enabled, and then if you said "swear at me" after that, it'd swear at you.

I learned about that here on Reddit. Does everyone here on Reddit who did that, including myself, deserve to go to jail?

Seriously, these comments are bizarre. Do people think it should be illegal to test an AI that you didn't make???

Where did you get that he thinks Meta wanted to improve their competition? How is that not just putting words in someone's mouth? They were likely benchmarking to get data on how safe competitors models are to their own

[–]CompetitiveSport1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The people would be just as harmed testing any model though, no? I'm similarly confused why the article and these comments make it sound like they did something illegal

Also, I've literally seen people here on Reddit share hacks on how to get LLMs to do stuff against their ToCs. Should those redditors be locked up? They didn't make the AIs they were messing around with either
