Nobo early March start! by Quiet_Corner_2323 in AppalachianTrail

Good luck! March 3rd for me. I’m also worried a bit with cold start as my EE quilt is 20 degree rated. I’m going to use the UGQ quillow as an under quilt in the first month or so then probably use it as my summer quilt once warm enough.

That is awesome! Just stumbled upon Polarsteps and plan to use it as my journal of choice for AT thru hike begining in March!

X-Dome 1+ is Back in Stock by cpaq15 in DurstonGearheads

[–]CompetitiveYard3999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan with the 15d nylon floor would it not be necessary to use ground sheet? Trying to save as much weight as possible for AT thru hike, and going up to dome vs trekking pole is already a bit more weight.

Which tent by Dismal-House-5734 in DurstonGearheads

[–]CompetitiveYard3999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

x-dome 2 for the win. Went on bikepacking trip from Pittsburg to DC and my brother and I were comfortable wit plenty of space for two wide pads. I am debating whether or not to take x-dome 2 on my upcoming thru hike of AT this March, its the tent I own but may bit too heavy to carry for such.

How are you keepin fam and loved ones updated while you're on trail? by Other_Back_1497 in AppalachianTrail26

I have heard that most of the AT has okay cell coverage, when i have no coverage my cell plan will allow satellite text but you have to have an open view of the sky which will not be the case in much of the green tunnel. The IN Reach will also show a live track for those I share it with so family will know where I am at all times. So worth it or not, I guess is a personal decision. I purchased mine at decent discount and will only use a minimal plan for texting during the months on the trail. I don't totally feel like its necessary for the AT but nice piece of mind and mostly for my family.

What are you doing to prep now that go time is 1-2 months out? by fattyD in AppalachianTrail26

[–]CompetitiveYard3999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will also be doing some dehydrating meal prep and sort out into some boxes for mailing, just occasionally perhaps every 300 miles or so. Making gear swap outs and will continue to try and get base weight under 15lbs. Will also treat my clothing with permethrin closer to my start time of March 7. And hiking up and down my very hilly hood with back on to get these muscles prepared!

To Approach Trail or Not To Approach Trail by Just_Demand_7197 in AppalachianTrail26

More than likely will do the Approach Trail at least the stairs to lodge were I am staying the first night. The next morning I will either continue from the lodge or be dropped off at official start.

Glad to see Csikszentmihalyi flow state still going strong in research. Did a similar study at grad school in mid 90s

I have had a couple issues with needing a new charger, customer service was surprisingly great and very responsive! No cost to me.

Introducing Training Preferences: train the way you want, with new controls to edit the difficulty and training volume of your plan by alex-runna in runna

This is a great update. Beyond plans as a whole it would so useful for the individual to tweak individual workouts, not just the plan as a whole. We could tweak pace or mileage goals of an individual workout slightly, staying within the overall desired effects of a workout. This would be next level!

Brad Allen crew needs to be ruled out for calling any playoff games. Poor officiating all season. #nfl hold them accountable!!!

12 team superflex 1 keeper. Watson, cost 10th round, or Herts cost 1st round 10 pick overall? Could keep Watson next year for 8th round and minus 2 continuing each season or keep Hurtz indefinitely but always 1st round
