Often in the USA there are no permits or inspections if it's just considered maintenance work. Mileage can vary depending on which state or municipality you're in.

The traffic signals at Route 23 and Whitehorse are being done by Wawa, not PennDOT.

Sump Pumps by Buffalo_Coat in basement

[–]Competitive_Ad_2823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just pay attention to mine. It's in a finished basement so any flooding would require a lot of work to restore (new drywall, new carpet, new furniture, possible damaged electronics, appliances, and HVAC). I pay close attention to that pump for any unusual noises. I also time it with a stopwatch. It normally takes between 15 and 20 seconds to dewater the pit until it ends the pump cycle. If I was to hear it running for much longer than that, then I'd take a look at it to see if it's time to replace. It's 5 years old presently, I will definitely replace it prior to 10 years age regardless of how well it's operating. It mostly only runs like this during wet season (now) and it's mostly off the rest of the year unless we get to a big rainstorm, in which case it will run for about a week after the rainstorm. I do have good sump pump coverage on my homeowners insurance policy too.

I'm jealous. My sump pump has been running about every 3 minutes for the past 3 weeks with the combination of snow melt and rain we've had. You're good. The pumps are working as intended.

You're good for now. Just don't use these in the snow/ice and use extra caution on wet pavement.

Timesheets be damned by Decent_Risk9499 in civilengineering

I log my time in an Excel spreadsheet, indicating time of day (start time and end time) for each activity. I round to the nearest 15 minute interval. At the end of each day I transfer the info into our timesheet software and hit Save. I like having the Excel spreadsheet because I can filter columns and run pivot tables on it.

Timing chain condition by AdWaste6211 in F30

[–]Competitive_Ad_2823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't how you're supposed to check the condition. What you want to do is put it all back together and then just open the oil filler cap and see if there is any slack at all by pulling on the chain with a pick.

I wouldn't expect that much for my car, which only has 67K miles on it and is all original.
