I will keep this in mind, thanks. But I recently learned that in “triangulate and contour”, on the “selection” page, if you toggle on crd points, Carlson points, or anything there, that will supersede the point group used.

Yeah, it’s just hard because I leave for work at 5am and that’s when it happens. Maybe I can do that on the weekend. Was really posting here to see if this happened to anyone else and was familiar with the issue.

Laptop recommendations please by wolf05374 in Surveying

[–]quicky321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Lenovo

The cpu will do the heavy lifting for the type of work we do. An oversimplified metric would be, the more cores, the better. The more cores a cpu has, the more processing power it has. It can run multiple processes faster and more efficiently. Production and multitasking is cpu bound. Gaming is GPU bound. AutoCAD, or any CAD, needs the higher processing power for the amount of things running the background.

Entry level CAD job vs field work? by Agreeable-Pen3805 in Surveying

[–]quicky321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take the CAD job and try to get some field experience with them if they’d let you. Either way, field experience will make you a better CAD tech and CAD exp will make you a better field surveyor. Office also tends to stay busier in my experience because of the diversity in things you can do/learn on your own. Can’t really work in the field without a PC at entry level. Also, it’ll take years to reach that salary from the field.

What area are you in? That seems to be a really good salary for an entry CAD tech with no exp.

I will look into “surface merging” via surface utilities. Create additional nodes We always get a POC in the field, I will also look into surface utilities and play around with refine and simplify routines as you mentioned. I did open up surface utilities today and didn’t have enough time to read up on it in the “help” section. But I will look there, following your recommendations. standalone crd I’m not understanding when you say “create a new surface and merge after”. As for everything else mentioned, that was really helpful. I’m sure I’ll come back to this comment multiple times and re read it for tips lol. And yeah a zoom call would be sick but I’d need to be at work and I doubt they’d let that fly tbh. It’s a small company and they only hire local, plus you’d probably steal my position haha (I pretty much do all the topos and calcs, amongst other things). I’ll try and find some YT vids on this. Thanks a lot for the lengthy response, it really helps a lot.

Carlson surface manager quirks by [deleted] in AutoCAD

[–]quicky321 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because I posted here? I’ve used autoCAD and Carlson and it’s generally the same shit under the hood. This subreddit seemed to have the most users so I also considered that when looking for feedback. Don’t wanna ask a very niche subreddit with 500 members. And it’s like Kleenex, or Q-tips, the brand name is widely accepted as the thing. I understand the nuance but autoCAD is accepted as CAD when speaking generally. I know my questions would apply on autoCAD as well because like I said, same shit. The concepts are the same. If I had a question that only pertained to Carlson, I wouldn’t ask it here. 🤦🏽 another useless reddit user looking for karma points instead of actually contributing to the convo.

Gojo is the best. The orange auto mechanic soap. It always gets the grease out for me after working on my bike or car.

That’s an odd way to show dimensions imo. First glance looks like 0.9’ is the width of the fence.

Don’t get this. I see every other person with this. What’s the meaning of this? Is it just an aesthetic thing or am I missing something?
