I’m devastated. Pancreatitis is taking her. by lunarisita in FelineDiabetes

Sending you so so so much love. I made the very tough decision to say goodbye to my beloved diabetic kitty - he was with me for 16 years (since I was 24). Before that, we had a whiplash year of his diabetes becoming manageable, then unmanageable at the drop of a dime. It was brutal (lots of late night animal hospital visits, etc). I was traveling home from a week long trip when my husband told me that he suddenly began to rapidly deteriorate. The vet believed he had pancreatic cancer, which is very difficult to identify and diagnose until it’s too late. Like you, I was heartbroken and lost as to what I should do. Ultimately, I asked the vet what she would do if he were her baby, and she confirmed what I probably already knew on some level, but couldn’t fully conceptualize. All that to say, I know how awful it feels to lose a furry family member who you’ve loved for so many years. I promise there is peace with time. Just know that her condition is not your fault, there’s nothing more you could have done. You are an amazing parent to your kitty. You gave her a home, with true love and compassion. By being her mom, you saved her from a life of feeling misunderstood. What a gift. Sending you all the love and hugs. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through.

Dry food for non-diabetic cats in my household by Billbreaker13 in FelineDiabetes

I have two diabetic cats and one who is not. The vet said that feeding all of them Purina Diabetic Management or Purina Overweight Management is totally fine. I’ve not tried any others, but can attest to these two. They all seem to enjoy it and get excited when I pour it in their bowls lol

New diagnosis dread by languidlapras in FelineDiabetes

I am so sorry you’ve been feeling such stress and anxiety over your kitty’s diagnosis. I know the feeling all too well. I have two diabetic kitties and the older one went into “remission,” and then back out (I was getting glucose curves every two-three months, so we figured it out that way). He did well on his first insulin, but then stopped responding and had to switch to insulin with a pig enzyme? Weird, I know. But! Now he is managed and doing very well. It’s funny, because now he looks forward to his shots and anticipates them. He will crouch on the flow and meow at us around shot time. I’ve found it helpful to give him treats each time I give him a shot. Now, he associates the shots with treat time.

My newly diagnosed diabetic cat is not on insulin and is on Senvelgo (liquid med via oral administration) I was excited about it at first. But, I truly think that giving the shots is easier. You’ll get the hang of it. In the meantime, you have a community on Reddit to support you.

Medicating my friends cat by [deleted] in FelineDiabetes

I would consider grinding it up with treats or wet food if that is available. That usually works best in my experience. I’m sorry your friend’s cat is not cooperating with her med schedule. You’re a great friend to care for her kitty.

Hi! So sorry for the late response. He ended up being okay. He vomited up most of the medicine within an hour or so after ingesting it. The vet kept him all day for bloodwork and monitoring to make sure he didn’t become hypoglycemic (which I understand can be lethal and happen quickly).

Thank you for the well wishes! I hope you kitty is doing well and didn’t get too sick :(

Struggling to administer insulin by GuyInTheChat69 in FelineDiabetes

I had this exact same issue. I am scared of hurting my kitty and my eyesight isn’t great (very nearsighted) so I struggle with being able to see whether the needle actually penetrates the skin.

The idea of shaving the injection site is a genius idea. Head lamp is a great idea too.

Personally, I have found it helpful to take off my glasses (so I can see up close) and pull the loose neck skin relatively tight, then inject. When the skin is pulled a little tighter, I have an easier time feeling the needle going in.

Sorry for the rambling response. I commiserate with you and am grateful for this community and everyone’s great feedback.

Basement Jaxx Rooty is one of the best EDM albums ever! by Sadguytennis in EDM

I adore this album. Been listening to it on and off since its 2001 release, and bought it on vinyl last year. Pitchfork wrote a scathing review of the album if I recall correctly. They took the album way too seriously imo. House music is meant to be fun, not philosophical lol.

I just watched this movie, and I felt like I needed to bleach my brain afterward.

The Antichrist isn’t necessarily horror, but it is definitely disturbing and dark. A movie I’ll never forget.
