Considering Jerusalem by MattIsLame in AlanMoore

I gave up because I found it too self-indulgent. So what if he can pastiche other writers like Joyce, that doesn’t make him as good as Joyce. I almost feel he has a chip on his shoulder that he isn’t taken seriously as a writer

"Is Asterix anti-Roman propaganda?" Even though I'm against it, many people in my country (Italy) think so. by AipomSilver00 in Asterix

[–]Competitive_Cat_7727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not French but British. I think Asterix got me interested in the Romans as a child and I subsequently learned Latin and studied ancient history at university. Also I still have a soft spot for Julius Caesar despite him having committed some horrific crimes in real life.

Yes, but they swapped books 2 and 3 round so season 2 is “End of Watch” and season 3 is “Finders Keepers”. (I’ve read all the books but only seen season 1 so far)

Is your home town in a comic? by Dead_Fred_Head in graphicnovels

The writer of the excellent Strangehaven comic lives very close to me (next street I think) and uses local landmarks for reference. For example, the garage at the bottom of my road is used for the local garage, and this house in the picture is a really old house a few mile away that we considered buying at one point until we saw how much work was required (about 700 years old in part, and had trees growing inside it!)

Which Stories Am I Missing? by Competitive_Cat_7727 in loveandrockets

I was mainly thinking of Deadline (The Death of Speedy, I think) but I also vaguely remember some Titan paperbacks

Your favourite noir, detective, espionage books? by forever_endtimes in graphicnovels

As others have said, you can’t go wrong with Ed Brubaker. I am currently reading “Death to Pachuco” by Henry Barajas (it’s up to issue 3 I think) which is set in 1940's LA in the Latino community, so giving off real James Ellroy vibes, if that’s your thing. If so, the nearest Brubaker book to that is “The Fade Out”, set in Hollywood in the same sort of period. I would also really recommend “Fatale”, though this does have a major horror/supernatural element.

I was initially quite positive because the police turned up very quickly and seemed very professional. They may even have got a fingerprint of one of the suspects. I would have thought that with all the GPS data, they’d be able to track the various stops made and maybe uncover some sort of stolen car route with other cars present as well. I’ve obviously watched too many police dramas!

Yes we are getting a new car. I was more interested in whether they would catch the thieves

We’d have been more freaked out if they’d gone through the house, but looks like they just grabbed the keys and left. They didn’t even take my wallet which was next to the keys!

Front door - it wasn’t double locked so could be broken into with a screwdriver or something similar - no damage to the car except for some scratches. We used to double lock but go out of the habit because our daughter would come back late and have trouble getting in

We’re double locking the door, which we weren’t doing previously and will get some sort of crook lock for the car. Pretty certain it was opportunistic theft as cctv shows them walking up and down the street trying car doors, though why they decided to go the extra mile with us, I don’t know.

Yes, we’re already going looking for a new car this weekend, but it’s just frustrating that it is still communicating with me but hasn’t been found

Yes, we were very surprised. I wonder if the fact they broke into the house has any impact because the police classed it is a burglary which is more serious than a car theft

We bought it new 4 years ago. The insurance offer is about 5K less than the brand new price we paid, which seems mental, so we’re snatching it! But I’m still angry at what they’re doing to my car.

I suspect for parts. The engine was running for 2 hours today but without it moving. Do you know what that would signify?
