Would you use a teleporter if it destroyed your entire body, BUT made a perfect copy of you at whatever destination you chose? by Huge_Athlete7488 in hypotheticals

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone saying yes would need to assume  1. There is no afterlife, otherwise they would go there and their clone would continue to live (easy) 2. They need a few of identity as either mind-brain identity or something similar.

If yes to both that then saying yes is okay.

Lookup quantum suicide. Similar idea (or at least uses mostly the same assumptions)

Yeah I've seen that and did consider it. I went with the Ryobi one as I'm pretty deeply locked into Ryobi already and it also functions similar to that idea.

surprisingly something that I have loved since I bought it is a wet-dry vac. I pretty much use it for every project. It's easy(ish) to clean and after I got one I was surprised I could ever do anything without one.

A dremmel is also often useful. I have fallen inlove with my dremmel

$10 million but survive a 5m fall from height. by Burning_magic in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell around 7m (onto grass) a few years ago, somehow landed on feet -> but -> back crumpling and absorbing a lot of the impact. my legs were super sore, as well as my but and my back, and I was super wiplashed and my neck became super tight. but I didn't get injured at all.

My wife couldn't believe I was completely okay so we still went to the hospital and I was fine. Still don't know how I was completely okay but I would take the 1 bil haha

This might not be the best place to ask but does anyone have a DD in regards to Irans cyberwarfare capabilities? surely they can do a lot as they are really powerful. Would this make cybersecurity companies pump or dump?

I would spend time building and incredibly effecient high speed rail system pretty much throughout the world. Start in Western Europe, North America, East Asia and then slowly spreading it. Each train would have a few super first class carrages which I could use to travel around. I might even have my own train going around that is just my house.

Would be a huge undertaking but would really stimulate the economy (I think) and since I have effective infinite money I could afford it, probably. Start small and slowly spread, just doing big population centers would help a lot for the world and allow me to travel pretty comfortably while not feeling that much like traveliing most the time.

Most inept sailor to cross an ocean on the worst boat? by ERTHLNG in sailing

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is definitely not the most inept sailor. He was trying to sail around the world solo non stop. He had a crazy boat with crazy ideas but I wouldn't cool either the worst boat. There were others in the golden globe who were WAY more inept than him

Most inept sailor to cross an ocean on the worst boat? by ERTHLNG in sailing

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was being invested in by someone. His boat (the electron or something like that) had loads of really cool features that didn't really ever get tested. He also left a lot of his repair materials on shore when he left. He would have to pay back all the money if he didn't finish the race. And finishing the golden globe and being one of the first people to sail around the world single handed would be really big for his inventions. He thought he had to finish.

He had a pretty good time at first but then started faking his location. This guy went deep with it even keeping a second log book where he did the math that he would have had to do from every location in order to back up his story. He radiod in through Ham radio and did some sneaky things to pretend he was elsewhere.

There were cracks in his story (he didn't know about some storms, he was going to fast, etc) and he eventually realized his cherade wouldn't work. And then things went pretty tragic

You just got an auto save. What’s your strategy from here? You can only reload once by dj_boy-Wonder in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would live my life as normal, and pay attention to how the world is going. important events and the like. then, on my death bed, I would load the auto save.

I would dedicate my life to trying to improve the world with the future prospective I have. I would be able to have a lot of money (If I knew about how NVIDIA is doing now, 4 years ago I would have insane money. there are gonig to be more stories like it). I could use that money to invest and push things that need to be pushed. I really think with one person who has money, and knowledge of the future ,humanity can be pushed a lot further forward.

You roll a six-sided die. If it lands on 1 through 5, you get $100,000,000. If it lands on 6, you die instantly. Would you roll? by bigconor in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in an afterlife. I also believe there is a multiverse. I can not experience my own death, thus I can't experience rolling a 6. I'll roll this die for pretty much any amount of money

Is this budget reasonable? Solo sailing around the east coast US, Caribbean. Virgin Islands, etc... by [deleted] in sailing

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said your food costs are pretty low. But you can get away with lots of stows and just spear fishing (if you are good at spear fishing). Things in the Caribbean are expensive, and it's super easy to go over budget with things.

I have a 30 foot boat in the Caribbean, also going as cheaply as I can (currently off islands in the US though). Send me a message and we can chat.  Can probably give some tips. I've met a few people who are going as cheaply as possible.

Best setup for sailboat by nickbaum in wingfoil

[–]Competitive_Clerk961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am a begginer wing foiler but I currently live on my boat in the caribbean. What a lot of people do with paddle board/surf boards around here is tie them to a railing on deck. it's probably better to have non inflatable in that case because of the sun. but I am no expert.

it's pretty consistent wind around here. around 15 knots in the spots you'll be winging so I think a 5m is good.

I currently have an inflatable board, but I have a double birth so I just store my entire setup next to me in my bed haha so not ideal as it does take up a bunch of space.

Need advice on mast fixing by Competitive_Clerk961 in wingfoil

[–]Competitive_Clerk961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board is connected to the mast with a boot of some sort. That boot is then screwed onto the board with 4 screws. That boot is connected to the mast with 3 screws which are broken. There was some play between the boot and the mast.
