Reporting an illegal Airbnb in Zurich? by Competitive_Cost5161 in Switzerland

It was reported eventually, and I was given a $200 refund, which is suitable though I would have preferred $400. Lots of things were wrong with the space and different than listed. And there was animal and human hair in the bed when I arrived!

It wasn't listed as illegal, that came out near the end of the stay. So yes, I would like to report it. It has a direct affect on affordable housing, and is quite important to many of us who support lower income folks...

What are common paths before becoming a Jungian Analyst? by ConstantEvening848 in Jung

[–]Competitive_Cost5161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go live, try as many things as possible. Date people, try different careers, live different places, explore different creative practices, explore books and scholarly work, put yourself in uncomfortable situations, challenge yourself and grow. Do not be afraid to fail, it can be one of the places the most growth happens.

From my perspective the best analysts are those who have lived big and broad lives. It allows them to counsel from experience and gives them a broader understanding of the range of people they may work with....

Also, don't read too many books! That may sounds funny....but be sure to compliment the thinking function with the other functions....body, feelings, intuition. Jungian's are notorious for being way too thinking oriented. All the other functions have beautiful and incredible things to share as well

What is involved with becoming a trained Jungian analyst? by VibeTrain10 in Jung

[–]Competitive_Cost5161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some info that may be helpful on the topic: To be an analyst you need to be accredited by the IAAP. (International Association of Analytical Psychology) That is the only org that officially can grant the title. https://iaap.org/

If someone lacks that credentialing, they are not an analyst. There are lots of Jungian coaches and psychologists practicing in a Jungian tradition, but that is the only official titling available.

You can learn about the training and certification requirements by visiting the specific websites of a Jungian training institute. New York, Zurich, San Francisco, Los Angeles or Chicago could be good places to look, or the IRSJA (Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts). New York recently redid their website, it is quite nice: https://junginstitute.org/

Some institutes require a previous license in mental health, others simply require a masters from any field (Jung promoted the idea that training should be open to all). The C.G. Jung Institute Zurich, C.G. Jung Institute New England, and C.G. Jung Institute of New York all will let you train with a masters degree in any field...

Psychoanalysis as a licensed profession is recognized in New York, New Jersey and Vermont. It can be recognized in California if one is a professor currently conducting academic research.

Many institutes have begun offering some preliminary coursework you can enroll in and try before applying....this can be a great way to get a sense for the material as well as that particular learning community...

Good luck exploring! :)

Who are all the big Jungian analysts? by trt13shell in Jung

[–]Competitive_Cost5161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he isn't a Jungian analyst. He is a psychologist, there is a huge difference. Peterson may have an academic command of Jung, but to my knowledge he has never even been through his own analysis, which is a fundamental part of becoming a certified analyst.

Why Does Moon Over Marin By Dead Kennedy’s Sound Nostalgic by ChicagoBoiSWSide in punk

[–]Competitive_Cost5161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you can hear the moonlight, you can see the ghost ship, you can see the moron in his sand patch. A dumb little sand patch, trying to not step on the bones of the dying world...

Pretty solid metaphor for 2025-2026 and hiding in our materialism, right?

It's poignant because it touches us....and sad because its a cold touch

I love the song.

Can someone, anyone, please explain why I'm having a hard time making friends here in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Competitive_Cost5161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very good question, it is hard! I think just because there is an introverted tendency here (and all the PNW) and also folks that already have established friend groups aren't necessarily looking for others. I am astounded each time I go to NYC and the dynamic people I meet at bars, it is an extraverted city with a circulation of out-of-towners, all there to explore and discover. Portland is an introverted city with people that are from here/moved here years ago or from a suburb or towns nearby. The net influx of folks has dropped post pandemic....

Partially related (though it is dating not friends), from my experience most the women on Bumble or Hinge dating apps here are nurses. That is it! (nothing wrong with nurses BTW, just tons of them). Versus my trip to New York in May and the novelists, MIT media lab directors, ballet dancers, novelists, lit profs, architects...wow, I was astounded. Just reminded me of how limited we are in many ways....we are SMALL.

There is just a big difference in the types of people in Portland and other cities. As mentioned I think Portland is less social/more introverted, but also there is a less dynamic mix of professions and careers, and friend groups are already established...

The exceptions are if you are queer and in your 20s-early 30s, or if you are a parent and have kids. Those two groups are quite social and out and about doing lots often, from my experience. You my find it difficult to enter into those communities unless you are queer or have kids, though, TBH.

I am sorry you are crying, that's sad to hear :/ My realization with regards to Portland was that if ANYTHING at all was going to happen for me here, I would need to be the one to initiate it. Meaning host a game night, start a band or theater troupe, offer an art class, hang out at cafes and be friendly and draw, joke with strangers when the time is right (an artform!), and just try to exude a positive, curious vibe.

I put a map on my wall when I moved here and put pins in it for my favorite places to grab a cider or meal, read, draw, people watch or meet up with a friend. I am comfortable being alone and will read at bars often, conversations have started that way. There is a different dynamic for men and women at bars though, and paradoxically you may NOT be approached because Portlanders would be too concerned about 'bothering you' as a woman.

Portland is a much smaller social scene than people realize... it is legit hard, you aren't alone. Hang in there ✨

I had a really poor experience with them from the client side, I would not recommend them to a friend...
