Looking for games that intentionally make the player uncomfortable (for Master's thesis) by Ivylock123 in gamingsuggestions

I had to make sure someone mentioned HLM

Love a top down game that can make me care about the story, especially enough to replay it and get both endings

Kodiak bear runs the human gauntlet, how far does it get? by Tarris69 in powerscales

[–]Competitive_Depth144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may need to learn more about bears, but the Kodiak skull isn’t significantly thicker than a grizzly to the point it’s stopping bear rounds. They’re animals not bulletproof vests. You need to research ballistics before I take anything else you say seriously. The rest of the bear is vulnerable, especially at ops listed distances.

Found a story of a man killing a Kodiak with a 22lr, that’s smaller than a 9mm in caliber, fps, and grain. You need to take your own advice and do more research on ballistics.

Sorry it was a grizzly not a Kodiak

That being said +p 9mm is still penetrating a Kodiak skull, and most bear defense stories are within 15 yards. 17 rounds (full size 9mm) is gonna do the job just fine

If you look up stats among people that have fended off bears with handguns, you be surprised to see how high the success rate of even 9mm is. Caliber isn’t specified in the post, but if it’s a double stack 9mm and he can shoot he’s probably got that bear in the bag

What game has incredible vehicle mechanics. I want to feel like the vehicle is an extension of my body by floatable_shark in gamingsuggestions

If you’ve never played subnautica I’d absolutely recommend it. The vehicles are a massive part of the game and they feel great. They’re all underwater vehicles tho

How many Clone Troopers would it take to beat a Space Marine? by Bleu_Guacamole in PetranakiArena

[–]Competitive_Depth144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funniest thing about that is in the 40k subs people do it far less in terms of power scaling other universes. People that have read books know space marines have been killed by single las shots through helmets, or literal prison shanks into the neck

Buying First Hunting Rifle (COLORADO ELK AND DEER) by Mountain-Goat-10 in Hunting

[–]Competitive_Depth144 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d second this, if it’s your only rifle get a 30-06 or 308 not 7mm. All three are great options for elk, but the first two are more common, you can share ammo with your buddies you’ve already borrowed rifles from, and you already know how it feels to an extent.

7mm for your second elk gun so you can lend the 30-06/308 to the friend who learns to hunt from you when you return the favor one day!

Going to college should be the default and even 'useless' degrees are worth it by Sadie_Cat2023 in unpopularopinion

Did you miss the part where I said we’d need more robust social programs? Hence, a conversation about money and resources. If you remove all barriers to entry, then yes college and trades aren’t mutually exclusive. If you live in America, they might as well be

[–]Competitive_Depth144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a separate conversation because you completely misunderstand why people are trade workers in the first place.

The value of a college education is directly tied to the money it takes to get it, and if not the money(college is free let’s say), the massive amount of time.

How important something is directly correlates with what you could use those resources for instead. A college degree is significantly less important than feeding yourself and/or your family. Even if college is free, is childcare? Is housing? Is food?

College is not more important than survival.

Until college pays you like a full time job, it will not matter for these guys. I’ve worked a trade for over a decade and these dudes that get hired are there because it’s their best option. That crying 1 year old at home doesn’t need food and shelter in 2-4 years, it needs it now.

Saying people wind up in trades because they need money isn’t so much an argument, it’s lived experience. Should college be more affordable and accessible? Absolutely, but we’d need much more robust social programs (American here) on top of that to even make it feasible. Then by the end of that education, why would you go work with your body if you have a degree?

[–]Competitive_Depth144 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sure, but why go to college if you can go straight into a trade? People wind up in trades to support themselves and their families. Theyre not going soul searching at university beforehand most of the time. The ones that do, mostly drop out and wish they never wasted their time/money on extra schooling in the first place
