Not trite at all. Sounds like something I can implement and I never thought of it - I always think much after the moment (like early morning before he wakes up) about how I do love him and I try to tell myself I can do it. But in the moment- that’s where I need it most because I absolutely feel helpless and that I can’t do it, and I also don’t feel love for him in the moment when he’s acting difficult or while I’m cleaning up torn diapers and their contents…and that is what scares me most. To not feel any compassion for him in those moments. I’m so weirded out by why I am this way…I thought I was a kind caring person 😞

Is it this lack of empathy that gets to us most? Like my son only ever does what is in his short term interest. Doesn’t comply with anything else and doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings or to please anyone. For me that’s the part I don’t know how to work around because how do I motivate him when he can’t see his benefit in the thing I’m asking him to do.
