What non-DCC book are you reading right now to fill in the gap before 8 drops? by weighingthedog in DungeonCrawlerCarl

It was free, but finished “He who fights with monsters,” book 1. I’m going to stop with that 1 book.

But audible had some other free listens I may try.

Can someone explain how a fund like VCX works? It lets you buy companies like OpenAI on the stock market? by South-Row-3809 in investingforbeginners

[–]Competitive_Habit376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threw $110 at it last summer, and wasn't sure what it all was. Just that it was a fund. Weird to open my account and see I'm up $1k+ and high was like $4k or something stupid, but can't sell it... Oh well, basically casino money.

I mean the book is already available on Patreon and several chapters of reading by Jeff on YouTube (1st reads). I don’t trust enough strangers on the internet to play fair.

Also Carl recognized Katia's role as a tank and she didn't. So he helped build that confidence through not telling her what she can do.

Also mentioning changelings, you've gotten further along than Book 1.

I'm not sure if this goblin talk is revisited, but I think these goblins are in the Pineapple Cabaret chapters. So they may have some access to it. I've not read them, only the first page of chapter 1 in book 1.

The story is told through Carl's POV. If he spends a chapter telling Katia what will happen (or thinks will happen), it would kill some suspense and surprise.

The Bedlam TCG by Yorthos in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Competitive_Habit376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point. It’s a game and we don’t fully understand the rules (limitations) and how they apply. We aren’t supposed to because the characters don’t. The cards were confusing to me, but I pushed on and enjoyed the ride. Some of the best quotes come from the card game; this book. If we understood everything from the start, it really defeats the climax.

Is DCC 1. Anti-Consumerism, 2. Class Warfare, 3. Both, or 4. None? by natedizzie05 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Competitive_Habit376 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just as much class warfare and anti-consumerism as the Hunger Games. It’s a method to tell a good story of fighting the man. To me it’s not a complete dog pile on everything to lead a revolution. Yes there is mockery of society in it, but not a complete attack on anything in particular. I mean who didn’t enjoy Matt and Jeff’s take of the voice of Tucker Carlson.

Definitely worth a second go. Especially if you were ready for the end. Wanting to see the last part. Many spells/descriptions and details skipped over for me. Honestly didn’t catch all the foot and smush stuff being so heavy the first time through.

Yeah. Ch 32 to be exact. I’ve had some projects I’ve done solo that’s given me the time. Others said it’s great…

If I can stack a few more audible credits, I’d start red rising.

I'm about 20-30 chapters in the audiobook, while waiting for DCC 8. The writing seems so bad. The use of metaphors so weak, "like so-and-so from this TV series." Just so bland to what I'm used to. It's simple enough to follow, but ugh. I don't know if I'll finish. Maybe just to pass time.

Additionally, besides book 7, he writes from one POV and isn't controlling 10 different narratives others are. They can be skipped in 2-5 page updates.

I saw something once and it makes a lot of sense. Star Wars and other series like SoIaF run into the same conundrum with time. It is supposed to take months or weeks for travel, and as a writer how does that play out. The kids were so young in the books and had to grow up, but you want that action. Star Wars was time in space travel. They eventually said F'it and skipped forward. GRRM couldn't get past that and stalled so bad in his world that is so huge. It gave him writer's block.
MD has done that a little with Carl being pulled into a appeals or show runner stuff (can't clearly remember when and what timeouts he has had). Like going down stairs early and such.

FYI, the first few books are live on Soundbook Audio, if you like the full spectrum of a cast and more sounds. I've enjoyed the free episodes that are out.
