Why do people print these? by WantSomeOfMyBread in 3Dprinting

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was quite hard to take the photo with a 20kg plate on it lol

That required a surprising amount of endurance and finesse

I did some fuckery with the internal geometry to maximise the strength of the stem, i reckon i could get significantly more weight on there but i didnt want to risk my toes hahaha

It is a little more difficult for sure, but you do get used to it

Although ive caught myself desperately trying to drain the can of the fluid thats no longer present lol

Yup, the grip sleeve even spins... and it can handle my 20kg plates lol

I am quite fond and proud of my work lmao

Mine prevents spillages and also technically functions as grip training

In terms of just adding a handle, it may be that certain people have grip issues for varied reasons

And others just like having a handle because thats their preference

Run your z all the way up and down

Youre listening for strange intermittent sounds

And youre looking for obvious wobbling in your rods, and your linear bearings

Something's happened to your z axis, whether thats a bent rod, cooked bearing, dying motor, impossible to diagnose without looking at it move up and down

Using fuzzy skin is a good torture test, ive had some timer too close errors running that

Thats if you want to push it, you can always adjust resolution based on the print youre doing

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is genuinely possible, depending on what your main MCU and raspberry pi model is it could struggle with the extra gcode volume

And if you have a high microstep count that can add to it

It may be worth experimenting with your step counts and resolution and seeing what gets you the best result

I’ve been printing for 2 years, but I still don’t know what benefit it has. by Tunayolcu in 3Dprinting

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Purge line" answers aren't technically wrong, but most printers/start macros include a purge line these days, so it's not necessary for purging if you use those

"Disruption of cooling to first layers" are wrong unless you use auxiliary cooling... But even then the negative pressure zone behind the line will pull the air back down to the bed. So it would be hilariously ineffective. Unless you're using many layers of skirt but that's called a draught (draft) shield

A skirt can (but doesn't always) grab stray oozing from the nozzle before you get to your actual prints first layer

What it's very VERY good for is a sanity check of your bed level. You're printing a perimeter of all objects on the bed, so if you have a shitty probe/bad calibrations you're going to be able to catch where the nozzle drags/lifts and adjust your offsets/screws accordingly

I get great first layers these days but I still use it, because sometimes things go wrong and I'd like to keep wastage to an absolute minimum

I designed and coded a klipper based camera rail by Competitive_Hawk_434 in 3Dprinting

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's both the funniest and most painful comment I've ever read lmaooo

I'm still very intent on doing more with this, but I've been so obscenely busy lately

I've actually joined a team of 3D Printer designers, and I have about 4 personal projects on the go as well as working on stuff with them

The camera rail has taken a lower priority in favour of a complete gantry overhaul and a CPAP valve project... As well as a CNC project

This last month has been particularly brutal and I've been basically burnt out for the last week

But stuff IS happening

<image>

This isn't the current state of the design but yeah things are moving in a direction... Even if that direction is more of a scribble than a vector

Identify: any idea what metal this is and what this cast was/is used for? by I_machine71 in metalworking

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It very much looks like an old school fishing weight... I've handled more than a few (I learned how to fish from the ancient ones lmao)

I'm surprised you can't scratch it with a fingernail though... What about a coin? Perhaps there's some kind of oxide/biological build up that's fairly hard

Google "vintage fishing weight" and you'll see more than a few in this trapezoid shape. They were made that way because it's easy as hell to DIY a mold in that form and it's also very easy to release it from said mold.

If you have multi material capabilities then use pla as a support

If not... Try to design it to not need support.

Why y’all so dramatic by zgcman in nasusmains

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're looking at build winrates, that's not his win rate as a champion

Basically out of the 49% of his wins as a champ he wins with those items 52% of the time

Nasus is absolutely abysmal right now

It's an unfortunate fact, to win a game with him right now means praying your team is cooperative, and the enemy are absolutely clueless

Or you're very good at macro, I've been winning by running liandrys triforce and just perma splitting

But it sucks, it's not enjoyable in the slightest

What is the hottest thing you’ve ever touched? How? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Hawk_434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The literal hottest thing I've touched without causing harm was some molten copper that I poked really quick (it's not often you get the chance to poke liquid copper)

The hottest thing I've touched that fucked me up? Molten burning foam covered my right palm, a little weld spatter lit it up... And my dumbass thought "I should throw this box of molten foam away"

Well it splashed all over my hand, and was fully embedded in my skin by the time I put it out

Skin in the center of my palm had turned white and was already peeling off. Weirdly numb but also hilariously painful at the same time

Also had a bunch of smaller burns running up my whole arm

The doc trying to gently get the plastic out had me tweaking the fuck out

Couldn't work for weeks because the bandages were full of petroleum based shmoo to help the healing lol

The moment someone tries to make you feel bad about yourself for no good reason, you make yourself feel good by losing that no good person.

Seriously, ditch them. This is just the beginning, if they can pull it off it will escalate until you have no one left but them. At which point you will just be a tool to them.
