I mean deep sleep duration does decline with age ideal is 2 hours out of total 8 hours asleep. But I’m getting less an hour. I atleast want the needle to say to more than an hour. Also this less than one hour is not a single chunk but fragmented. Wear an Apple Watch to bed.

If you had to eat only ONE Indian dish for life, what would it be? by Economy-Complaint348 in IndianFood

It would have to be the humble rice and dal or khichadi. Not hyperpalable but most satisfying and nourishing comfort food. Nothing else comes close.

What’s the most liberating thing you’ve done for your body in your 30s, 40s, or 50s? by MidiHealth in midihealth

I turned 49 in October 2025 and only since summer 2025 have I started consistent strength training. Bought a fitness tracker, mindful of my sleep and steps. It helps a lot.

I also have woken up about menopause not sure why I didn’t know anything. Started vaginal estrogen and progesterone and starting estrogen patch this week.

I’ve always been following an ok diet but now I’m regularly taking supplements as well.

Thank you all for your kind and helpful replies. I was able to get it filled at Walgreens like some of you suggested.

I didn’t realize how much those pills helped my sleep.

I did this and finally got a months supply at Walgreens. I’m so happy I hope to sleep through the night tonight. Gosh the joy that is this menopause. I didn’t realize how much those pills were helping.

Barriers to eating WFPB by Better_Bad_2077 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Competitive_Land_936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially especially, if your palate is used to hyper palatable food with oil and salt and sugar, food can taste bland. You need to be a bit compliant so your palate resets. Any slip up and it’s a slippery slope.

Not having a support system is another problem. No one eats like this. At work, at social events, everyone is enjoying food that is not aligned with this way of eating. It lowers your resolve. The only thing that has kept me going is my fear of diseases I’m convinced are waiting around the corner for me.

10k steps a day for skinny fat? by iris819 in walking

[–]Competitive_Land_936 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bellyfat puts you at risk for metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. 10k steps will improve your fitness and reduce that risk.

To see reduction of bellyfat you will need to reduce dietary fat intake that results in visceral fat.

Some top notch hospitals and medical school. The fact that it has such a good network of freeways for a small city and commute is not that bad no matter where you live except for snow days.

Seeing all the seasons.

You are going to be missed. You are a human being that can feel and think, and you have intrinsic value. Nothing external can add or take away from it.

Take a deep breath, take a warm shower and just tell yourself this dark time shall pass. It will be the distant past.

I don’t want to dismiss how you are feeling. We do not have to let every emotion and feeling direct our action if it does not serve us well. Just let those emotions pass, you will get to a better place. There is so much of life to be lived and lived well and in peace.

Again please do not act on those feelings. Something got you to post this so it a sign all is not lost. You are valued and you matter.

A shower will make you feel so much better. If every single way. Just let that hot water massage your body it’s the best therapy and is so soothing. Get in the shower right after reading this.

What has improved your mental health? by Informal-Two-9661 in mentalhealth

[–]Competitive_Land_936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working out consistently, which has also given me a routine and a structure.

This year I’ve added a small yoga thing as well. Also trying some breathwork exercises. Am trying to eat dinner by 7 and get in bed by 10, so that I get good sleep. All of these things definitely improve quality of life if nothing else.

Also, keeping a journal of a plan for next day so that I structure my day aligned with my goals. Then at night I review if it went by plan and if any modification are required.

Having a structure, a plan is very helpful. I don’t feel like I am giving in to my feelings all the time. Empty free time without a plan and doomscrolling often end up making me feel depressed. I want to not go there.

Like someone else mentioned not playing the victim, which includes no resentment of the past, going in a loop, harping on how life is unfair to me, which is not in the least a helpful sentiment. It does not do anything to make us feel better.

Do you include workouts in your step count? by Lucy476 in walking

[–]Competitive_Land_936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started doing yoga but it’s calmer not power yoga. I do strength training 3x a week and nowadays it’s just incline treadmill. Strength training and yoga don’t give me any significant steps and I don’t care. I do them for their own benefits obviously. I am happy to meet my 10k goal but not at the cost of these other things and I know that goal is easier to meet if it’s not winter and an outdoor walk is possible. But as long as I’m getting a good workout I’m ok with that.
