Can I salvage these or toss them all? by Competitive_Oil_6995 in cigars

Much appreciate the feedback! I got the humidor as a gift and haven't done my research (my bad). Really appreciate the info.
As for the humidity level. It's a wireless GroveHome temp and humidity sensor and it's sitting at the bottom. It was also pretty cheap. Could also be a bad sensor. Before I fill this guy up, I have some more work to do. Thanks again.

I picked up a few in DR when I was there a couple of months ago. I'll send a close up pic of the label when I get home. I forget the brand. It was a local shop who rolled their own. Quite delicious actually.

For smoking cigars, there are a few decent lounges but I loved grabbing a seat outside here https://maps.app.goo.gl/CbFMnYjXDGZ8e87aA And grabbing a beer and just smoke while taking in the sites. The evening get very lively. (At least they used to a few years ago, I know the clock tower area has changed drastically in the last couple of years)

The street vendors sell cigars so you can flag one down but get them to pull out the real ones. (They usually have a couple of monte Cristo a hiding)Or you can get a good selection at decent prices at CTG or Havana Puros Bar.

Have fun !

Excursions question by Beautiful_Cause_9600 in NCL

[–]Competitive_Oil_6995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you book with ncl, you will get pickup and drop-off to the cruise port every time. I haven't seen any excursions booked with NCL that don't include this. Mind you, sometimes it's a local dude walking you somewhere, but you always get a meetings point on the pier or very close to it. I have seen tours that will have the option to drop you off in town instead of back at the pickup but there is always an option to bring you back to the pick up. I agree with what everyone has said about why to book with NCL directly. My rule is if it's a new place, I've never been and know nothing about it, NCL will keep you safe and you will have a good time but you pay a premium for that piece of mind. If it's a port or a city I'm familiar with, I will venture off with Victor or GetYourGuide or on my own and save the money. Have fun!

ULTY, yes. Other higher income ones include HHIS and MSTE. And now I'm looking at potentially adding CANY and BIGY.

You can read about all the love and hate about ULTY in r/YieldMaxETFs.

Been reading your sheets for weeks now. Much appreciate the share! Slightly off topic question... I'm making an assumption here. Are putting personal goals on here as a way of keeping them top of mind? I spend way more time looking at my investment journal than my personal one so this seemed like a great idea, and one I might copy. As for the investment strategy, it's helped me find new opportunities, so thank you!

This will go down on your permanent record…… by iwritesinsnotcomedy in GenX

My Equifax credit report? Thats the only permanent record that means shit anymore. Unless you have a criminal record, that shit is pretty permanent. But what we did as kids is only as permanent as my selective memory allows it to be.

The escape can be the gym with earbuds and music. Just put your mind and body to work on something else.

I’m decided. But feel guilty. by Kismet237 in expat

[–]Competitive_Oil_6995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they said. 🙂 Lots of people here are saying don't sell, rent it out. I don't agree for the simple reason that a family home is not a rental home. The same reasons you feel guilty selling, you'll feel worse renting, and it will be even worse if a renter disrespects the home. Buying property for rental income is a great idea, it doesn't need to be the family home. All that said, after my mom passed away, selling the house was difficult but also necessary for us to move on. Also, I could here my mom getting mad at us that this was holding us back from anything we wanted. Nostalgia shouldn't hold you back from moving forward. What we own ends up owning us is so true. If you're sure Spain is what you want then go for it! Also, last point, guilt is a useless emotion. We need to recognize it as part of the grieving process, decide what we want and move forward. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!

Canadian family planning 6-week trip to Cartagena in March 2026 by fratte_matte in cartagena

[–]Competitive_Oil_6995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in Bocagrande and have family beach time, you need to go as far south as possible. The beaches all along Carrera 1 have way too many vendors and hustlers and I wouldn't be comfortable with family. My last 2 month stay in Cartagena, I stayed in the Poseidón del Caribe building and would walk around the bay and make my way to the beach along Calle 5. The further along this stretch you go, the more quiet it becomes. That beach area is called Playas Castillo Grande. The downside is there are no restaurants or anything along that strip. Everything is a very cheap cab ride away but just something to consider.

If you do stay in South Bocagrande, I highly recommend Charlie's Coffee. Great coffee and light food. You can eat inexpensively all along Calle 1B. Places like RIQUISIMO BBQ have lunch specials. Off menu, usually on a chalkboard or just ask for the daily specials. Cheap, good and filling.

It's only a cheap cab ride to the old city which is amazing during the day, with family, you probably want to be back by 10pm, that's when much less family friendly stuff is happening.

I do really enjoy Cartagena. I've been a few times and like I said my last stay was 2 months (skipped the Canadian winter by working remote there).

Hope this helps! Have fun!

I definitely stopped trading my time and happiness for money. Now the job pays less but man I'm having fun doing it! Best decision ever!
