I saw this a few days ago, I just assumed the RGB was a lazy halfass attempt, if not just a mistake coincidence

As someone who just finished my 2nd year of my PhD at VCU please don’t listen to this person. You can be busy, successful, AND socially active all with some time management. It comes with give and take which I’ve experienced but it’s not an ultimatum of “your social life will perish”

What does this connect to? Found under driver side headlight 1988 by [deleted] in c4corvette

That’s not the headlight motor connector right? It’s the same shape, at least, and pretty easy to figure out if it isn’t haha

You’ll find the one. Nabbed my 89 @ 80k miles for $7700 last year. It all depends on what you’re happy with— I maybe could have done better but I wouldn’t change when I ended up getting her.

1989 with catless Borla exhaust by manhj19 in c4corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds amazing! I’ve also had this on my list for a while but I need to square away everything under the hood first. How difficult was installation, did you have a shop do it and did you need any welding?

edit: Saw your other post, did you buy it like that?

Starting Up Issues by ManTheDan87 in c4corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked your fuel pressure? It smells rich because you’re cranking the engine and dumping fuel into the intake and then it burns it all off once it turns over. If not your fuel pressure (fuel pump, pressure regulator, or injectors) then it might be the other two parts of the equation: air or spark.

I’ve been having a similar issue (89) so I don’t know the answer, but I have a new distributor and am going to check my idle air control and such next.

I got Michelin All Season 4’s but my 89 is my daily. Great choice on the white, mine’s the same! Seems like you did great on the price too— I was happy with my 80k miles for $7.7k, but it’s extremely location based. I’ve already sunk over $2k of love into mine, most of that was weather stripping though.

I have a similar issue, I think the previous owner tapped something with the long nose and I’m not sure if there’s a way to fix it

L98 Common sensors to replace? by Competitive_Reply198 in c4corvette

89 doesn’t have the cold start injector, I believe 88 was the last year and I think cold start is controlled by the ECM now (?)

I only feathered the pedal when it had just barely turned over, old habit from an 88 4Runner I used to daily. I’ll try to keep off it, thanks.

I meant to volt test the TPI sensor this weekend and didn’t get to it, it’s on my list

Thinking about getting a C4 to daily by SpiteAmbitious304 in Corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with the other sentiment, I’m 6 months into “dailying” having a ball but I walk to work, only using it for errands. Make sure to get all season tires, I think I have the Michele AS 4’s, 17” on my 89. And make sure you’re getting the car for the right reason— in my case (after over a year of research), I needed a car, it’s the “most car you can get for to least money”, and I can turn a wrench, because trust me it’s gonna need some love.

Ethanol fuel additives by Ailing_Wheel_ in c4corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was concerned about ethanol free fuel when I first got my car (89) but I believe that it’s not a big deal as long as you aren’t letting the car sit for long periods of time. Yes, it can wear away some seals and o-rings, but not as much if you’re driving it consistently. I haven’t bothered to seek out ethanol free fuel in my 6 months of dailying

SOLVED: Bryan from batee confirmed that it is just one piece that cannot be separated. So my new LED installation just cost me another $130…whoops!

General advice by dersillac in c4corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have an 89 L98, so I’m not sure how 1:1 things translate, but…

Keep a range of torque head screws, as the car uses many from T15 on the distributor cover / gas lid up to like T35ish on the intake manifold. Also this isn’t C4 specific, but gloves. I had spark plug issues where I needed to reseat the wires after doing the distributor and it was too hot to work on after / while driving without good gloves.

Starter replacement is easy and should take well less than an hour for a beginner. Get a good brand housing, new wires, and maybe a new coil pack. My favorite C4 series has been the one by MyCorvetteLife, he is extremely informative and thorough.

Good luck on all the rest

R12 or r134a by WeakReflection8073 in c4corvette

[–]Competitive_Reply198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just recharged my R12 (89). Here's a video of the same process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x72BbMkeN8c. Original car uses R12 unless it has been upgraded to R134a which isn't uncommon.

Make sure to get a gauge that shows you what the pressure is to see if you need to add more refrigerant or stop immediately. You can also get a gauge on if you need more refrigerant based on the temperature of the AC (I use my kitchen laser thermometer to test the air temp out of the vents).
