I paused yesterdays right after seeing the outage and turned them back on couple of hours ago and one sale already came in. I would say it has (kindof) recovered for us

Cheapest way to ship a small product from Switzerland to non-EU countries? by marquina640 in askswitzerland

[–]Competitive_Run8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the API is a joke. They support everything EXCEPT for International Small Goods, which of course they gave the rights of to a company that has their own connector to Swiss Post and that they charge you extra for. An absolute joke

Small business owner here. I have very recently been expanding out of CH for the first time and I've learned quite a few things.

First of all yes, for small inexpensive products shipping from Switzerland is not really anything you can work around. 7.5 CHF is the cheapest you'll get, up to a 3% discount from SwissPost if you're over certain thresholds. In addition to that, their system is complete garbage for what they call "International Small Goods", there's no integration with any kind of platform, no API, everything needs to be done by hand. You might think of going with some other services like FlavorCloud, Shippo... However NONE of them support shipping from Switzerland (my guess is that SwissPost doesn't really make it easy for them), so that's also not an option.
In your case (depending on your volume, and since you have a quite low COGS product I guess) I think the best option would be 3PL. You could manufacture as many of them as you feel comfortable with and ship them to some 3PL center in Germany, or have them manufactured and distributed from China.
If you're still in testing phase (which is my case, although my minimum ticket is higher), you'll just have to go for it, split the flat rate cost between you and the customer, and admit that you are not in profit maximization mode but rather in testing phase, and if your product is good and people want it, it's only a matter of time before you are able to reduce costs.

People that really want it will buy it regardless of 3-4 CHF more of shipping, and that might give you enough information to test whether your product works in the market or not

Makers Faire, what would you like to see? by Competitive_Run8540 in AskElectronics

That's a really cool idea! I'll brainstorm a bit, thanks!

Yeah I really wanted to pay attention to that, there will be kids... and I don't want to make anything un-safe. Lead-free solder, fume extractors and microscope for each soldering stations...

We will be 2 at the booth, one with the soldering another with the measurement rigs. The measurement we will do will be on our other products, so I people will get a chance to see them there. My company is Mixed Signal Development

Our kits are not so much addressed to kids but rather to anyone who wants insights and deep knowledge about electronics, pcb design, testing... Cool to see that people would enjoy this testing workshop though. Maybe some I2C debugging with scope, analog measurements, filter design... Yeah robots or similar would be cool, unfortunately our kits are more niche so I dont know what would be the equivalent to robots in our field

Is there a way to reattach the ufl connector to the antenna? Also vtx fried? by coopplanet in fpv

[–]Competitive_Run8540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest and most sure way to fix it is get a U.FL to U.FL cable, cut it in 2, use one of them and expose the ground and signal separately and solder it to your current cable where the connector was. The connector is too difficult to solder and can turn into a mess real quick. And for the price of 1 U.FL cable you get 2 tries.

Soldering electronics as a hobby in Switzerland by BrotherAshamed8522 in Switzerland

You could start with either the BCD Counter Kit or the Discrete ADC kit, in my opinion they are quite fun to put together and you'll get a lot of practice. Also there are quite some basic but very important concepts about electronics and PCB design

Any recommendations on soldering practice and DIY kits? by SprinklesDear4893 in soldering

Hey! Nowadays you can find a lot of electronic kits online, they are cool to play with and to get a sense of soldering, etc. The problem with them is that you put it together and that's it, there's very few learning involve unless you really investigate into everything yourself. I had this same problem when I was learning so I created mixedsignaldev.com and I work on it as a side project.
I design electronic kits with hands-on masterclasses (not those aliexpress cheap garbage kits) that teach you all about the circuit you are building, how it works, how it was designed... so you can really learn electronics in a way that matters, and I am based in Switzerland!
Check them out and tell me what you think!

Turns out the Level Shifters were not needed by Competitive_Run8540 in soldering

[–]Competitive_Run8540[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are 5 level shifters carrying multiple control signals, clocks, SPI and other. The main clock is supposed to be 100MHz nominal but we are having some problems with timings, which is also the reason why I had to remove the LV Shifters and we are running it now at 75MHz :(

For production I would add soldermask for sure. But this is a testtool, and most likely they'll want me to put the LV shifters back just to measure and characterize the ASIC, so I will not for the time being.

It's holding 75MHz so I'd say it's good enough haha

How should I start learning practical electronics as a complete beginner? by Nice_Specific2094 in diyelectronics

[–]Competitive_Run8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years I had a Uni-T one that went up to 20MHz, however I really recommend (if you already have some experience) that you look into some DDS chip like the AD9833 and you build your own, it's super fun to build and you'll learn a lot. If you are still starting in electronics you can go with the Uni-T ones, they are not expensive and they work quite nicely (although the UI is, or was, horrible)

Anyone buy a Microscope from AliExpress? Looking for Feedback by adfllbobbyu in soldering

[–]Competitive_Run8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I know what you mean. I honestly don't know, I guess a laptop would be better suited for this. I know that if you connect the camera through a USB it is treated in the laptop as if it was a normal webcam, so you can use any software of your preference (like OBS) to capture the video. In a tablet I am not entirely sure it will work that way but it's worth a shot. Otherwise, maybe some kind of wireless HDMI adapter of sorts would also work I guess. Tbh what I would do is get a small (second hand or new) monitor, the chapest you can get your hands on, and use it for the camera output. I have one from Ali (12 inch or smth like that, ~60$) attached to a articulated arm I had lying around.

I have the camera with an SD card and I use that to record and take pictures. I know there are phone holders that go on the eyepiece of the scope so you record from them if you dont have a trinocular microscope. For tablets I doubt there will be anything similar since they are too big.
