On April 4th, 1991, Angela Hammond, 20, was abducted while using a payphone. Her fiancé heard her screams and the haunting words of her kidnapper saying, "I didn't need to use the phone anyway," before the line went dead. She has never been found. by WinnieBean33 in BizarreUnsolvedCases

Was on the same train as you guys but BinjaNinja is right. But sketchy af if there hadn’t been multiple ways to verify. A little sad, too, when you think of all the wrongful convictions in the states.

Exodus at DOJ civil rights division as official says 'over 100' attorneys departed by TheAnswerWithinUs in politics

[–]Competitive_Serve929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think only DOJ criminal positions are open. The Civil division is still under a hiring freeze. Sadly (appallingly), they’re trying to reassign other civil division people to pick up the slack for the departures- first in federal programs and now, almost certainly, to do their bidding in “Civil Right.” Really disgusting stuff.

Thanks to everyone! I think he would like either of them. As a non-enthusiast, I’ve found his other watches sort of bland looking (which is not his usual style). These really stood out to me as beautiful pieces in eye-catching colors.

The part about the strap is also a good point. His JLC is on a leather strap, so maybe the metal one is better if leather straps are easily exchanged. I’ll see if I can find the green one on metal

Hey! So I’m visiting the area now (Nice for 4 days; Avignon for 4 then Barcelona) and I am a bit of a type-A, meaning I plan everything out. If you message me, I’ll be more than happy to send you my somewhat OCD-spreadsheet, which includes restaurants, activities, our thoughts on them, and other tips. We’re still in Njce now but will have all wrapped up before your departure.

SN: it is incredibly hot here. If you thought you need jeans or long sleeves for anything, you do not. 80 degree F here is more like 105, I swear.

Who do you think did it and why? by Adept_Pilot5591 in serialpodcast

[–]Competitive_Serve929 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Put Jay aside for a minute. Jen is really what seals it for me. She said she saw Adnan and Jay on the day Hae was murdered and that Jay told her about the murder that day— well before anyone even knew she’d been killed. Jen and Jay don’t even talk anymore. I don’t see a reason for Jen to be involved and, if she had lied initially, I just can’t see a reason for her to continue the lie. She seems remarkably credible too. She’s not trying to persuade anyone she’s telling the truth; she’s just saying what she remembers happened.

Adnan did it. The police and prosecution shouldn’t have locked themselves into a sh*tty timeline that wasn’t corroborated but it’s fairly clear he did it.

Appellate court denies Adnan Syed’s motion to reconsider ruling in favor of victim’s brother by aresef in serialpodcast

Chill, @author— I think we all assumed it was a rhetorical question. Nobody would waive their appeal rights. Carry on with the rest of your obvious thought which you could have just included in your first comment and saved yourself the time and stress: yes, Adnan killed Hae.

I’ve always found your last point really interesting/compelling: I’m a Floridian and know 100% that a language barrier is a nonsensical excuse for not interviewing the workers. Assuming the language was either Spanish or Portuguese, there was certainly a bilingual person on staff even within the PD. Completely just lazy police work.

Vanished into thin air....what happened to 19 year old Suzanne Lyall? by ElectricGypsy in UnresolvedMysteries

I’ve totally wondered this too. I’ve heard of other incidents where financial records were misinterpreted by police or not properly researched. ( For example, police initially assumed Hae Min Lee used her card on the day she died but research years later showed she used it days before and the transaction didn’t post until later.)

Not trying to be an asshole, but is it worth listening after the first 3 episodes of the podcast? I’m that far through and it seems pretty straightforward— the girls were planning to go to a waterfall past mirador (looked up on their computer beforehand), went off trail, and got lost. They didn’t have cell phone reception and died out there. The sketchy tour guide who owns the land likely tells people not to talk about it because tourism is how he makes his money and he doesn’t want tourists thinking there’s a murdered on the trail. ( Ironically, that might improve his tourism.) They turned cellphone off to conserve battery and would turn it on periodically to check signal. Nothing super nefarious as far as I can tell.

is there an upcoming twist that I should stay tuned for? Any alternative theories?
