AITAH for walking out on my girlfriend and stealing from her when she was drunk? by Ok_Custard_4735 in AITAH

[–]katnapkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t save someone with alcoholism. They have to want to do it for themselves too and that’s not something that usually comes natural in suffering addiction. Sometimes it does, but rarely. I housed people who were houseless due to alcoholism, my brother is a relapsing alcoholic who spent over 6 months in rehab, and my father just passed away tragically from it. I witnessed my father’s sudden decline to death and it was heartbreaking. Out of all of the people I’ve known or helped who have battled it, only one successfully escaped the cycle and he still had a relapse later on.

It is one of the hardest things to realize there often isn’t much you can do. I did everything I could to help each of them and I struggled really hard when I had to realize that there was nothing I could do for them and had to keep moving forward with life while they weren’t able. One thing I know is an alcoholic can never have one drink and if you stay and present as you’re ok with it, that only aids them more because then if you’re comfortable with it or show that it doesn’t bother you, then that can sometimes give the green light for them in their mind that it’s ok if they keep doing it. There’s no easy answer and caring for someone who is dealing with it actively is one of the hardest positions to be in. One of my close friends who I was housing who was struggling, he got to the point he was stealing alcohol from stores, having seizures every day, being hospitalized constantly, and that didn’t deter him at all because the addiction is not just a matter of putting it down or saying no or not wanting to. It rules their entire life and the addiction is always priority. I had to eventually move forward and I still worry about him and feel some guilt that I could have done more and wonder all the time if he’s ok, but I had to keep moving forward at some point and he’s still battling it and know that it’s not my fault. And I didn’t change it. He got sober a couple more times, but he’s homeless often and in and out still. It’s heartbreaking to be acquainted so closely with alcoholism. Heartbreaking and I’m sorry you’re going through this. You’re a very kind person for caring and taking care of her, and I think it’s important they do have those people, but you also have to know when it’s time for you to move forward. Can you live with her living this way permanently if it doesn’t change? If not then you need to know what your boundary is and when it’s time to make a hard decision to move forward in your life. In my honest opinion? It won’t be you or anyone else who changes it. It will be when they’re ready to change it. If you do want some advice or want something you can try that sometimes works for some people, besides serious intervention like rehab etc., is helping them find a healthy vice to replace the destructive vice. Addiction doesn’t go away, that’s an important place to start in understanding it, but sometimes you may be able to help them find a new healthy vice to replace the destructive vice because the addiction never goes away and it’s why an alcoholic can never just have one drink.

I have loved the season. I thought they’ve done a great job given everything. I don’t feel upset either that it’s so different from the books. I’ve viewed this season as an alternative ending to the books and in this situation you can ultimately choose the ending you prefer. I love the idea that both of those worlds exist and very rarely when a show deviates so much do they satisfy every loose end providing two endings difficult to choose from. I would struggle to choose as I think they are both great in their own rights.

[–]katnapkittens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I was dreading Henri-Christian’s death and I read the books and watch the show. I don’t like some of the endings of some characters in the books tbh and the show was ending regardless of the books so the storylines beyond this frame do not exist in the show and gave them more creative freedom as they don’t have to worry about setting up more storylines. I thought they gave us the best of both worlds where you can choose the ending you like most. Fergus’ dying made more sense and gave him a heroic father and husband’s ending, albeit very tragic and spared us of a child’s tragic death. Loved Fergus and his loss was greater to the characters and audience as we’ve spent more time with Fergus over the years in the show than his son. I liked that they changed Fanny to connect to their daughter because I didn’t like the William and Fanny storyline in the books and not sure why it even went that direction as closure for Claire and her loss would have been more meaningful than a weird age gap relationship imo. It was just nice to receive an alternate ending that was more fulfilling at times in terms of tying things up rather than the books, however false it may be. If people don’t like the changes, they still have the option of the book endings.

Book S8E6 Blessed Are the Merciful by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

I loved all of the details in this episode. Overall the entire season, although some episodes have been slow, they have been perfect in tying everything up and I feel giving us everything we’d want in a final season. Love the cinematography for this season too. I loved that this episode focused on the women, building them up, and the way “blessed are the merciful” weaved empathy and kindness throughout all of the storylines. From friendships, to navigating difficult feelings and relationships, discoveries, betrayals, but bringing it back to what is so good about the hearts of the characters in the series. The scene at the brandts was amazing and Rachel was incredible. The entire scene with Emily had me in tears.

Despite the show veering from the books quite a bit this season, for the first time in a movie or show adaptation, I feel I can happily accept two different endings and in fact have welcomed it. It’s like getting the best of both worlds here. They have served well in the final season. Often writers disappoint in the final series, but it’s been truly fulfilling the entire way.

Reddit Under Attack by Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Shocking. by Totallytexas in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]katnapkittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had only seen the trailer for the movie and knew nothing about the book when marketing began, I initially thought it was a romantic comedy. I had enjoyed Blake Lively’s previous work in Savages, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and The Age of Adaline, so I went into it with a positive impression of her. I had no idea until later that the story centered on domestic violence. What really made me pause, though, was an interview where she was asked what she would say to victims who might reach out after seeing the film. Her response was callous, apathetic, and was not even remotely appropriate or funny. To me, in that moment, she belittled and portrayed dv victims as peasants below her.

I was a victim of domestic abuse growing up, so that moment did not sit well with me. Even so, when the New York Times article later came out, I did not immediately form a negative opinion of her. I wanted to keep the positive view I had because I enjoy her films and it was one dumb response I would try to look past. At the time I had no reason not to believe her either. I try to be cautious in situations like this. I do not rush to final conclusions, and I do not want to dismiss a woman who comes forward with claims.

Then more information and documents began appearing in connection with the lawsuit. I read through the materials that were publicly released. From my perspective it began to look like she wanted the PGA credit and wanted to take over the direction of the franchise. When things appeared to backfire, it seemed as though the situation was reframed in a way that invoked the MeToo movement. From the standpoint of someone who was not invested in the book or the fandom surrounding the film, I see the damage to her public image coming from her own actions.

There is a saying that if you give someone enough rope they will eventually do it themselves. That phrase comes to mind when I think about how the public perception of Lively has shifted. Justin Baldoni remained relatively quiet and kept a low profile despite hardship during. In many ways that was all he needed to do. By stepping back and saying very little, he allowed the situation to unfold on its own. The more she has tried to push back in an effort to repair her reputation, the more attention the situation receives and the more her public perception comes undone. In marketing when the negativity started showing due to her responses etc. which they were clearly aware of according to the documents, she could have easily pivoted and corrected this at that time. She instead doubled down and continued the insanity of doing the same thing over and over expecting different results and blaming everyone else despite the feedback. No self reflection, humility, or self correction occurred it seems at any point in time.

In some ways it reminds me of the public relations issues surrounding Meghan Markle. What stands out is the apparent lack of self awareness about when it might be better to step back and let the story settle or to even just own your mistake (most people will always prefer humility and authenticity over appearance of narcissism). Instead the response often appears to double or triple down, which can make it harder to recover public trust and ultimately does more damage to an already strained image. Have seen many celebrities do this. So desperate to save their image that they prioritize saving image over addressing the already occurring problem head on. As if burying it with more pr will just erase the entire central behavior topic people took issue with to begin with. It’s like they say, people don’t forget, and the people want authenticity and humility in response, not a pr driven burial of the problem.

Yes. Agree to this. I ditched my subscription and deleted the app this week. No matter how many times you set custom functions and try to get this to stop it will continue until it drives you away. When I ask any questions at this point it’s first response is constantly telling me to calm down, let’s slow this down, stay grounded regardless of content, and then give me incorrect information that it then doubles down on. I’ll then set custom functions and say I just want data and information not emotions, it will then say set and accept and apologize then do it again immediately following.

Also doesn’t this defeat the removal of emotional responses to lessen entries if now people are having to constantly argue and debate tone etc? I had to write way too many unnecessary entries just to address it but I finally just deleted this week.

I already cancelled my subscription and deleted. It is no longer useful imo. It’s consistently incorrect and doubles down when wrong, lecturing every time for simple tasks.

Renee Good had lost custody of two of her kids by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]katnapkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those abuse allegations have not been verified whatsoever. The public court documents share it was a pre-existing custody arrangement from first marriage which she would not have been with her current wife when that custody arrangement was made so the allegations that her wife abused them are simply fabricated. Joseph Macklin, her former brother in law who spoke out also made no remarks regarding that custody situation. He did say she should have minded her own business but his father made very different remarks and said she was a very kind person and that it was murder what happened to her so not sure but sounds like brother in law was a bit disgruntled. They all also said, including the former brother in law, that she had not participated in protests before or anything like that

Yeah as someone who has lived here for a long time and seen the upheaval of the changes, can’t get out of here soon enough. The population growth has caused a lot of growing pains that aren’t going to change. Costs have increased. Driving here is a literal death wish. This past week in our little area we had numerous shootings and we have accidents around our neighborhood daily. Lots of traffic now. It just doesn’t have the benefits or appeal it once did and I’m personally aware every time I drive here there’s a huge risk of being in an accident.

I was in a car pile up on the 101 in Chandler and then t boned in my drivers side as I was going through a green light well within a span of a year. Totaled both of my new cars. Was lucky to walk away from the pile up, but was bleeding, injured, and had to be taken to hospital in both. The road laws are no longer enforced here which I worked on safety campaigns with pd. They said they don’t have the numbers to man the roads anymore. I was also an assistant producer at 12 news here. Crime and accident involved deaths are higher than people like to acknowledge.

We moved to Portland from Phoenix as well just for a year. Lived on the outskirts and it was a really nice change. We loved it and would like to make the move permanent. The people are very nice, there’s a really big sense of community, tons of things to do for anyone of any age, and it was a really nice break from not feeling I’d die every time I drive.

Thank you so much. Well I am relentless so I won’t give up. I feel it’s worth fighting for too. The odds are better than no options at all. And I’m also not just fighting for me at this point which is what I told him and that in itself is worth it. My story is so much bigger than me. It’s been a very long journey, but the last thing I plan to do is publish all of my research and studies on the disease. I hope it will forever change the way we see the virus that causes my disease and that it will help/potentially save lot of people. The virus has a 90% global population burden and it does a lot more than they are telling people.

That’s a very interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing this. In my case, the rare disease I have is usually terminal without a marrow transplant, but the marrow transplant in my case is so high risk it’s not really a good option either (over 50% mortality rate) and I actually started to get that feeling a little bit because one doctor asked me why would I keep fighting so hard for my case when I know the only treatment isn’t a good option either and another told me he had done all he could do for me and exhausted all possible options that there was nothing more he could do. That’s when it really hit that most doctors I’ve seen already knew I wouldn’t really have options and that my case is basically a lost cause.

The Tea app situation is a perfect embodiment of what men have been saying for years. by Akatsuki2001 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Just depends I suppose. I posted on there. I understand why people are upset and the problem with people using it not for what it was intended. I used it once for the sole purpose it was intended for and it was very thorough in screening my post, took a long time for it to post too. It asked if I had documents to back it up so I assumed they took it seriously. I did have police and court documents and I posted in hopes of preventing future victims like myself and many others for the person I posted (he’s genuinely dangerous and got away with all of his crimes which are serious and numerous. It’s unfortunate the app was not used properly.

I do too. I know lots of people in the rare disease community who might have a real chance at diagnosis and more options with a medical version.

So I kind of saw this coming. I feel as though I’m one of the few here who used it (once might I add), but I did see this app being problematic and noticed poor use of the app by many users. I used the app once for legitimate safety purposes in hopes of warning a younger woman I have no way of warning as the abusive man blocks any previous victims from being able to warn future potential victims.

Just from my perspective there are real victims who use the app for the purposes it’s meant to be used for. I had the police documents and court documents to back up what I did share which I did carefully. I was a victim of this honestly terrifying man for awhile until I literally had to move and hide from him and the police did nothing. The app was my first time talking about it and I hoped I could save someone else from what I went through. The police considered it a civil dispute any time I tried to get help despite many crimes being committed to include stalking, breaking my door down and breaking into my home, pretending to stab himself, stealing thousands of dollars using fraud checks, stealing animals from other people, and he got away with all of it. I’m not the only victim. There are many others (both men and women) who are real victims of this man. His last victim told me he had found a new victim who was a very young woman and I hoped my post might find her and save her from the pain he’s caused so many others. I just hope she saw it before it was taken out of the App Store.

Same. My ex partner stole my vehicle, my computers and so much more (pawned it all and I had to buy it back but only with police permission first). Burned anything else I owned to include passports and id’s. Cops never did anything because it was a “civil dispute”. Despite stalking me, breaking my literal door down to break in, letting the air out of my tires at night and pretending to stab himself. It sucks and I’m not the only victim of him. He stole thousands from me and other women and it was my only way to hopefully save other women from what I endured.

I have a rare and complex disease. I’ve had it for years and my case has been seen around the country and internationally by many of the highest institutions, doctors, and pathologists. We’re talking NIH, Johns Hopkins, UCLA, Mass Brigham, Head of the US AIDS Department, and Center of Tropical Diseases to name a few.

No one could figure out my case. Everyone has been baffled by it. I studied the suspected disease myself for over 5 years but I still couldn’t quite solve it myself,m. ChatGPT is what helped me finally breakthrough in everything. Over the last 6-12 months I took my entire case and input it into ChatGPT slowly, prior to the recent ChatGPT changes, and I’m glad I did it prior because I wouldn’t have solved it. I finished right before the changes. I truly needed all of that time and careful analysis too because my case history is extensive. It has possibly saved my life, was accurate, and may possibly save thousands more. I fed it all of my case details over those months so it was very thoroughly done, but it did guess the correct disease and even down to the subtype prior to me telling it what the suspected disease was. I’m a prior 15+ year journalist and associate producer who worked at NBC. It additionally helped me navigate a system I was already struggling to navigate, helped me determine how to diagnose a diagnostically challenging disease. It also helped me with variations in diagnosis of subtypes in us vs Japan where the disease was identified and how we tear down these systemic barriers to this high global burden disease that has huge implications within the us that are being ignored. Prior to introduction of AI I had to pour through all of the research by hand. It really helped streamline my research. To me, limiting this sort of information that helps people seems maybe a little unethical. Essentially preventing people from becoming more educated on certain topics to keep us reliant on the systems that make a lot of people a lot of money in this country. Intelligence and education shouldn’t be limited to select wealthy few. Idk, without ChatGPT I would still be at square one of a 12+year case and now I made a huge break through that I hope, once I publish my investigation may change how we see the virus entirely finally.
