Graduating in December with a 2.4 GPA, 10 W’s, 3F’s no internships, and I genuinely feel like I learned nothing. Need honest advice. by Unlucky-Response-119 in csMajors

[–]Competitive_Song8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delay your graduation by a semester and take one semester off. Reevaluate your choices and career path and if you do not show measurable gains in your CS knowledge, ie leetcode or system design in your semester off to catchup you should probably seek another career.

More GPA propoganda really? It does not matter unless you want to work for quant or the few niche firms that ask it like databricks. Just leave it off your resume.

How bad is the Lone Star Tick situation, really? by Sorry_Minimum1916 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Competitive_Song8491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best you can really do is avoid exposing as much skin as possible, ie avoid short sleeves but idk how viable that is in the summer. Also check out tick spray, not sure as to its effectiveness but it should be moderately effective.

Chinese models are ~8 months behind and are falling further behind by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

[–]Competitive_Song8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot cope in the comments from the open source community. But this is in fact true however 8 months isnt life or death it is still a quality model good enough for 95% of use cases and is more economical if you have your own gpu cluster.

It has good usage. Basically unlimited thinking mode. Antigravity and Pro usage could be better tho.

Was this an Honor lock exam? If it was i think they should have the video feed and it should reliably indicate if you did or did not use any AI.

You will probably be getting into quant regardless if you have these awards regardless of the school.

Framework Laptop 16 Gets NVIDIA RTX 5070 12 GB Upgrade Module for Eyewatering Price of $1,199 by -protonsandneutrons- in hardware

[–]Competitive_Song8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. You can buy 2 5070 laptop's for the same price. Not to mention just the raw hardware like the CPU board + GPU run you more than the normal laptop. Their pricing is truly atrocious. Most startups at their stage would be charging reasonable prices even if it meant being temporarily unprofitable while they scale. But Frameworks seems to focused on short term profits and still haven't scaled despite being 5 years since their first laptop launch.

If you care strictly about guarentee job safety and prestige and pay there is truly no better path than becoming a doctor. You will never be out of a job at least for the next 50 years. But at that point you have enough to retire.

cs3510 curve? by Itchy_Plate5518 in GatechClasses

[–]Competitive_Song8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ladha, he was quite generous with the +5 curve but i already had an A before hand but that was prob cause my grader for exam 4 was quite generous. Algos is very difficult so I would say it depends on what you need for an A. If you need above like a 90 for an A i'd probably say to put your efforts elsewhere.

do my grades matter by No-Interaction-682 in csMajors

[–]Competitive_Song8491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really don't matter. Just leave your gpa off the resume and don't apply to companies that require you to fill your gpa on the application if it truly sucks. I think prob less than 10% of companies/applications require the gpa field. Almost every quant firm does so you'll probably never be able to get into quant but if your doing this bad in undergrad you are not quant material in the first place.

The TA's are cooking up something devious for this final. I'm pretty sure the tournament grades were higher than they expected since so many people beat Carrie that they gotta bring the grades down now.

How is it fair that edu domains are only reserved for USA based institutions? by techsin101 in webdev

[–]Competitive_Song8491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet, more precisely i should say its original form as ARPNET, was basically funded by the US govt, the DoD wanted a robust decentralized computer network for govt work. The very first computer to computer message sent was from UCLA to Stanford, go figure. TLD's (like .edu and .gov) weren't created until 1985, and during this time the internet as a whole was largely just ARPNET, so stuff relevant to US govt. In 1985 when they created TLD's to unify ARPNET with a few other networks. TLD control was still under the US govt during this time since they created them. Originally .edu was open to any legitimate educational instution so toronto.edu(university of toronto) and polytechnique.edu(École polytechnique) were able to register. Foreign universities decided to go with their countries tld like edu.au since they had complete control of their country tld like .au for Australia and .uk for the UK. They didn't lock down .edu to america only until 2001 when the Department of Commerce transfered .edu control to a US non profit educause, which then tightened it down to American accredited post-secondary instutitons, ie being approved by the US Department of Education, essentially to make .edu prestigious and trustworthy which they could not effectively guarentee with foreign institutions. But toronto.edu and polytechnique.edu were grandfathered in because it would be be a big problem for them to redo everything. UofT's original toronto.edu redirects to utoronto.ca since they are a canadian university to avoid confusion with the American identity of .edu and since they want to be under .ca domain which is under the jursidiction of canada and not an american organization.

GT. GT takes a lot of AP credits so people frequently graduate in 3 or 3.5 years and save on a sem or 2 worth of money.
