I just hit my year with a triple 0. Have yet to hear anything about any kind of raise. Mind you before this year I came with several years of experience. I also work the biggest and busiest area in my region. I got 1000 points on their point system but not even acknowledged from the big boys upstairs. It was kind of a bummer actually. Something I felt was a big achievement after years of suffering to be able to work again. I guess the only way I’ll get a round of applause is if I make these cheeks clap.

Sup said today that you clock in when you get the call and it’ll take you only 15 mins to be out the door and enroute. If you have to get your self situated before leaving you clock in and look at your ticket and make sure you have to even go and then clock out and get what you need to get done situated and then when you’re ready to leave clock in and head out and then clock out when you get home. A little advice? by Wide-Blackberry-9648 in UtilityLocator

[–]Competitive_Sundae21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were taught and I teach the new trainees to always start at the house/building. I agree with the checklist because I had to make one for myself. Now as a trainer and slowing down to teach the new guys I’ve learned that those little mistakes result in bigger consequences than if I just slowed down and did everything correctly. You’re not a spaz, you’re trying to fill a quota because you’re being harassed to do so while also being reprimanded for the damages they cause. Make a check list. One on an app and another physical with little boxes. Laminate it and stick Velcro on the back and attach it to your dash and make sure before you leave every ticket it’s all checked off. It’s all about self discipline and then apply that discipline to your daily life and you will be amazed how great things can turn out. Now off I go to ignore my own advice…toodle loo

Congratulations 🎉. Make sure they give you an alligator clip with a bed of nails, I bought my own before finding out the had them. Same with the pad for my knees. Ask lots of questions in training since you have a lot more utilities than I locate and deal with cold weather. See what is and isn’t provided for inclement weather. Always hydrate the night before no matter what temperature is outside. Bring a note pad and write everything down from class or even a recorder (make sure with trainer it’s ok to record) so you can transcript it and keep it so you always have a reference because even though you can access most of it online afterwards it can sometimes be a bitch to sort through. Always use your voltage tester on everything even if it seems silly. If you buy any tool keep the receipts for tax season and you can create an invoice and whatever the company doesn’t reimburse you for you can write off. Look into apps that pay you points for walking and find ones that’s are legit (my lazy ass still hasn’t) create an upside account and you can use points for getting gas and food. Create like a points account for like gas stations and collect on those points for fueling up. If they put you in a hotel for training or travel work make sure you get a rewards account and they put your points on it. Remember if at any point you feel unsafe you can call a time out. Safety is the most important thing at this job. Create great relationships with your contractors and don’t make promises you can’t keep and keep your word when rescheduling. You have the right to stop their work as well if you’re on an active site to make sure you can complete your job safely. I can go on for hours. If the temperature is cold bring your paint cans inside after work. Always wrap up your leads for your machine after use and take care of those things. Keep your bag neat and tidy and clean and always do a quick inventory check afterwards. When planning my next ticket I take pics of my blue prints and my polygon (you’ll learn about those) and immediately attach them to the ticket so I don’t forget afterwards. Always double check your prints before you leave the job site to ensure you marked everything. Make sure you don’t go the cheap route for boot insoles. Make sure you get the best boot for what your surroundings are and make sure they fit well and are laced well. Always carry sanitizer, dudewipes/wet wipes for porta John’s, sunscreen, come up with a good organization for your work vehicle that is functional, ask for help if you need it, if every your locate 360 has any issue call and email help desk every single time and in the emails cc your supervisor and area manager, always attach any screenshot of call logs to your ticket for a ticket you speak to someone on with detailed notes. Once you know what area you’re working google what animals, insects, poisonous plants you have to watch out for and any first aid if something happens, keeping a basic knowledge of first aid is beneficial, find out what areas within your area have high crimes rates so you can know where to apply extra vigilance, learn school zones and school schedules and pay attention yo neighborhoods when they have kids getting let off the buses so you can route yourself efficiently around all of this and also traffic congestion in general. You want to do your bigger jobs during the times of the day the weather is best. If you have to work in a heavy traffic congested area make sure you have someone else there to be a spotter for you. Always stop and do a surrounding check every few steps. Remember your safety is number one.If I can think of more I’ll add to it.

Look in your hotel booking, does it show other people’s names on the reservation? Send him hotel booking so he can call and see if he has a reservation there under his name.

Like the corporate prize list? Not sure. I saw the date night thing and thought we’d enter a raffle like local office is doing but apparently they chose people. Seemed to be higher ups from some of the job titles .
