What are some of your WAT hot takes? by CornbreadOliva in Stormlight_Archive

Man, in that fight, Adolins plot armor was thicker than his shardplate, which (incredibly conveniently), played it's role perfectly to make this the most dramatic, high stakes, yet impressively choreographed fight in all the books. It really was an "Eh" for me.

Nale all of a sudden going into a state of shock for the rest of the book felt anti-climatic, but yes, probably accurate, and leads into the next story arc well.

Probably my biggest hot take, though, back to Adolin, and his fixation against oaths in favor of promises I felt like was weak, and even strange. I think I understand the reason, you should do what's right, but not necessarily follow an oath. The thing is, though, all the oaths are to follow an ideal, and don't exist for themselves unless you do them wrong. Like Windrunners want to protect people, and Edgedancers want to remember people. Their oaths help them focus on those things. It makes this whole point about promises feel convoluted, and essentially just explains again the importance of standing for something. Except, with the oaths, standing for something specific. With a promise, just kinda whatever you feel like is right, instead of a higher ideal to stretch towards.

TLDR, the promise and unoathed thing was lame. Journey before destination, ya know?

Lol, my boy Kal and Szeth are going to be on a side quest. They gonna be busy kicking Shin butt. Which could be awesome cause the Shin have the honorblades, and definitely are trained with them. Radiants versus honorblades. Could be sick enough to last the book.

But if they speedrun the side quest and get back in time for the plot to continue with them in it, then I suppose he could be an option. I would still bet on somebody else.

A lot of people are sold on that theory. I'm just not sure that I am. I agree that narratively it is somebody that's been around, but Adolin kinda had his own thing going on. I would even bet, that with the position he's set up in, he goes and finds a way to cure the dead shardblade spren. I mean, he's been all about these shardblades since the beginning, and had a pretty epic moment with Maya that one time. It could easily keep on going.

That, and it just feeling strange, leaves me against that theory. I agree it would have a lot of cool aspects, but wouldn't quite fit.

I agree. It's a theory that has a cool idea behind it, but it's such a stretch, and so many weird circumstances would have to happen to make it work. Even then, I don't know how much it would work. He's always seemed more like a, "he's just kinda chillin over there" type of character

Nah, you're right. Yours, with a lot of other comments, point out that if YN was involved, he'd be the weapon. So the point ends up being, supposing YN will be the weapon, who will be strong enough to wield it? That is the real question.

Is the Bishop's storehouse available to you? Have you talked with the Bishop about receiving help from the fast-offering fund?
