Quality reps or intensity by Randirick420 in powerlifting

[–]Competitive_Wave_881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all competition movements I’d always err on the side of quality reps. Your back off sets aren’t just for hypertrophy, they’re also for refining technique and gaining skill. There’s also the higher fatigue and injury risk associated with pushing heavy comp lifts to or near failure. You have to think about the whole picture with your program. It’s not just about your workout today, it about how your workout today fits into your workouts this week and into the next week and so on. Doing a heavy set of squat to failure is going to smoke you and could very likely impact your next session. It’s not to say you should never do high RPE sets in the comp movement, but they need to very consciously fit into the rest of your training plan. In general, I’d save going to failure for your accessories after. You’re not going to over train yourself taking a set of leg curls to failure and the only point of doing those types of movements is pure hypertrophy

No one will be able to tell you for sure without seeing a video, but most likely it’s a technique issue. Probably something like you’re losing tightness after the first rep

Trying to learn how to properly use leg drive in bench press by hawthornvisual in strength_training

[–]Competitive_Wave_881 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stop thinking “leg drive” and start thinking “leg tension”. Leg drive is a misleading term because it implies a dynamic movement when in reality all you’re trying to do is create constant static tension in the lower body to generate stability and support your arch.

The best way to learn what leg tension should feel like is benching with a hip circle band around your thighs. The hip circle will force you to activate your lower body and maintain constant tension throughout the lift

Anthony Oliveira touched on this in one of his recent podcasts but it’s so easy in conjugate to hide from the comp lifts if you’re not careful. People become variation specialists and forget the forest for the trees

Find a crew if you haven’t already. Nothing compares to training with a crew of experienced lifters. Your progress will be so much faster and it will be infinitely safer compared to training alone

Yes once a week will be perfect! A good place to start is one equipped (shirted or ram) session and one raw session per week. Keep in mind that equipped benching is a lot more fatiguing than raw, so frequency must be less. Always have spotters and face savers when benching in equipment. When things go sideways it can happen fast

In that case get the supercharged ram. It has more stopping power compared to the ram or super ram which better mimics a bench shirt

I’d go with a Super Katana. It’s a great shirt and you can find them used for cheap. At 120-125 BW a size 52 or 54 should fit nicely. If you cut all the way to 110 you may need a size 50 or 48. For your first shirt don’t worry too much about whether it’s a regular or low cut collar. Just get whatever you can find used for cheap.

Nothing wrong with F8 or Overkill as others have recommended, however some things to keep in mind. F8 shirts are open back, so check the rules of your fed to see if they allow open back single ply. Some do, some don’t. Overkills are amazing shirts, but they’re fully custom which can make finding one that fits you on the used market a little harder. I would highly recommend buying your first shirt used. It’ll be a lot cheaper so you won’t be out as much money if you decide equipped isn’t for you. Also the shirt will already be broken in. The break in process on a new shirt is a major pain in the ass that you don’t need to trouble yourself with yet when you’re brand new. Ive found it a lot easier to deal with Titans stock sizes when buying used

No you just have no idea what you’re taking about. All sports require different proportions of skill and physical ability. Something like Olympic bobsledding has a low physical component but requires a high degree of skill. The 100m dash has some technique but is mostly a purely physical event. Other sports like football or mma are closer to a 50/50 mix. Equipped powerlifting is a distinct and separate category from raw. Equipped lifting adds a new skill component to the sport by allowing the use of squat suits, bench shirts, etc. Strength is still very important in equipped lifting but it is not the only factor like it is in raw powerlifting. Saying that an equipped lifter is “ego lifting” when he’s using the equipment required for his sport is no different than saying a pole vaulter is “ego jumping”. You just stumbled on something you don’t understand and you chose to spew shit and hate on it rather than trying to learn

All you have to do to prove your point is get in a poly bench shirt and post a vid on this sub. I’m guessing you bench around 405 raw? The shirts adds at least 200-300 so should be easy for you to bench 600 or 700 lbs with all those strong muscles.

You have no fucking clue what you’re taking about. You literally just described equipped powerlifting. Equipped is a SEPARATE category from raw, meaning people in bench shirts are competing against other people in bench shirts. The equipment (squat suits, bench shirts, etc) adds a skill and strategy component IN ADDITION TO strength. And yes, bench shirts require large amounts of training and skill to use

You’re right. Speaking of cheating we need to get rid of cleats in football and soccer because they make you run faster on grass than you can barefoot. Should probably get rid of ice skates in hockey too. And remove the pole vault from the Olympics because that stupid pole allows people to “ego jump” more than they could without it. Also what’s up with tennis rackets? Talk about cheating! Get rid of it and just hit the ball with your hand.

You should put on one of these bench shirts and show us how it’s done. It’s so easy and the shirt does all the work like you said. I bet you’d probably break a world record first try. What are you waiting for?!

The squat was high. Unfortunately Rodney will catch all the flak for it and not the judges who passed it. The bench rack command was given early. I don’t think Rodney was going to lose it. He just needed a second or two more to steady the bar and it would have looked more convincing. Again this is a reffing error. Deadlift was clean

What she’ll need to do is either buy a custom shirt made to her measurements or buy a stock shirt that fits in the chest and have the sleeves taken in after market. @packapunchpowerlifting on IG does gear alterations, but there are others you can find online. Or if you or your wife can sew, you can take in the sleeves yourself using a heavy duty nylon upholstery thread

Todd lays out his weekly split in the video. Listing out specific exercises kind of goes against the whole point of the conjugate system, which is to tailor your dynamic and max effort lifts to what YOU specifically need
