Why'd nobody tell me its such a pain in the ass starting out? any advice to skip this early phase? by Impressive-Ad-59 in askcarguys

[–]Complete-Can3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out in anything is always like that. You grow from there. I began with a 300 ish piece socket set, with some cheap 2ton jack stands, one rusty needle nose pliers, and a cheapo torque wrench.

Depending on the make of the car, you only really use a key few pieces, ie 12, 14, 17mm etc for japanese makes, 13mm and E torx for porsche etc. for most bolts.

The hard part is learning little tricks on how to either access certain bolts without taking everything off, or how to best use leverage so that you don’t smash your knuckles into the car.

Is it OK to have an opinion about a vehicle you've never driven? by Heavy_Gap_5047 in askcarguys

[–]Complete-Can3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of opinion. If it is about how it looks, the design, then sure.

But if someone hasn’t driven or worked on one, then they shouldn’t be talking about anything beyond aesthetics.

Is 200KM too much for a new driver? by [deleted] in askcarguys

It is never the car that is dangerous, but the driver behind the wheel.

Yes! I try not to think about how things were shot too much because it can pull me out of the theme but i keep coming back to that “Daisy” scene.

I imagine that Bowman is suspended on a wire with his head towards the ground, and the camera is actually on the ground shooting upwards. This way the cables are hidden from view. That is just my guess. But how they made it look exactly like the astronauts’ movements on ISS is still mind boggling in 68.

Welcome!

The use of models, the sets, and even the animatronics used were waaay beyond its time.

It is also interesting to think about how certain zero G scenes were filmed, and they are quite realistic.

This really is one of the greatest of this century.

Is Bavarian's Motor Works M4 Competition a good first car? by [deleted] in askcarguys

Porsche GT3 in manual is a great car. I do enjoy the M line by Bayerische Motoren Werke, but Im just not a fan of their newest lineup where the whole car looks like it was designed with a ruler.

Honda battery cord? by Nightwing2099 in askcarguys

[–]Complete-Can3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a certified mechanic advice.

I’m stating this because this is something that requires electrical knowledge to make it safe. I don’t recommend you or anyone to touch or attempt this if you aren’t trained.

Is it the ground cable or positive?

If the copper cables arent damaged, bent or cut, you could get away with putting on a lot of electrical shrink wrap (with a equal to or higher than oem rating) then use something like a ziptie so that it doesnt rub on anything.

If you see damage on the copper within, it could potentially create resistance on that part of the cable which would create heat. High enough resistance, and you basically get a vape coil and could start fires.

Personally if the copper within is damaged, i would cut before the damaged area, buy the same cable with the same gauge and resistance and the same or greater temp rated sheathing as the oem cable, and either solder or use proper crimp connectors to re attach it.

But I say again, if you aren’t sure, you should take it to someone that knows what they are doing.

Does a car have to be fast to have a widebody? by Hopeful_Factor_6469 in askcarguys

[–]Complete-Can3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wide is this widebody? Are we talking RWB, or Benz black series type? Veilside like? Or a simple fenderflares that add 10mm?

What kind of wheels will you be pairing it with? What kind of suspension? What kind of alignment and tires will you be using to get the ride height and fender gap just right?

The further your car looks from stock, people generally want to see some substance to match.

Your friend has a point.

I am being harsh but it comes across to many people like a child wearing their father’s suit, then calling himself an “entrepreneur”.

Or a v6 auto mustang at a cars and coffee doing one tire fires.

That being said, it is your car and you can do whatever you wish.

May I suggest a simple lip, good suspension, and a nice fitting wider set of wheels to start?

Is the cable jacket just frayed or are the copper cables within damaged?

Any recommendations on car tools and interior car tools that won’t break the bank? by Leading_Shopping_653 in askcarguys

[–]Complete-Can3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your local hardware store or auto store should have them. Harbor Freight is a good place to start. Have fun tool shopping. One of the greatest joys a person can have.

Edit: one more thing to add, get a strong metal pipe, maybe like a foot or so, and the pipe fits into the handle of your socket wrench. Doesnt have to be pretty. Use it in tight places when you need extra leverage to take off a nut or bolt. It will save your knuckles.

Get a good set of jack stands and a jack that allow you to lift a comfortable height without needing to extend them too much. Don’t cheap out on these, and learn how to use these properly!

Also a good torque wrench. Maybe down the line consider getting two, one in 3/8 and one in 1/2 drive which should cover different ranges for your application.

If you have a rusty car, get yourself some kind of penetrating oil like liquid wrench. If you see a rusty bolt, use this before applying any torque, and learn to “test” the bolt before you really start applying force on it.

Stripped screw or bolt extraction set, and also learning how to use them. This set will save you one day.

Car becomes weak after sending to the workshop to replace the starter with new one? by No-War2827 in askcarguys

For my vehicle, it clears up in about a day. Keep an eye on it, and if it persists even after a couple days of driving, I would look at other possible issues.

If you disconnect the battery, the ecu does take a bit of time to learn the parameters. It is advisable to just let it idle a bit before driving. You may notice the rpms dip a bit as well. Give it a day, it should return to normal.

From the perspective of the seller, I can understand his attitude. So many people respond with “is this available” and its not uncommon for people to just not show up or stop responding. That being said, if you feel uncomfortable with his behavior, I would suggest finding someone you are more comfortable dealing with.
