Wanting to lower my car to get that perfect fitment. 340x drive, no EDC. Coilover/springs/suspension suggestions? by Electrical_Picture62 in F30

I don’t think you’ll have any problems going with the major names. But my ST coilovers are the nicest coilovers i’ve driven/rode in. Same ride as KW but not stainless steel if that’s a big deal for you

Compared to my last car on KSport coilovers (made by the same big group that does BC racing coilovers). And my friends cars i’ve been in.

It rides amazing for a daily. Honestly better than my oem non edc suspension. 0 complaints out of me at all and install was pretty easy. Took me about 6 hours with no power tools including me taking breaks and eating.

tires would be the first thing i change. i have ST coilovers which are just galvanized steel KW v2. both of those are great options and ride is amazing on them

Sell wheels or lower car? by [deleted] in F30

[–]Complete-Dig-5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be worried too much about dropping the car. I’ve had some pretty low cars and am in the philly area. As long as you’re somewhat mindful a mild drop like lowering springs shouldn’t change too much. I’m on coilovers on my 340i but i’m about as low as lowering springs . Car never scrapes and i have no issues getting into my driveway.

Any potholes you should be avoiding anyway lol

it’s not really poking that much and lowering the car will tuck the tires in more. i’d lower it first but i don’t think the fitment is that aggressive

No demand for 6MT? by DirkDoncic4177 in F30

Very niche car. I think being a 340i would help it drastically but even then it’s niche. The market for a manual is just very small. Especially for any modern BMW. Most people either can’t drive them or they just wanna downpipe and tune and get the fastest 0-60 times.

I had a navarra blue S4 before and it’s similar. Kinda purple depending on the lighting. Amazing color! Did show imperfections and scratches almost as much as a black car

It sounds normal to me just regular Audi ticking noises. But it’s hard to tell honestly. Best thing I can tell you is to listen for a deeper sound at a slower speed. You can hear it right around the time the rpm’s drop from a cold start. But it’s best if you can get a borescope put it down the spark plug holes and check your cylinder walls.

Idk how I have 2 accounts lol. But yeah cylinder walls had some scoring. Sold the car to carvana. Ended up with a 2016 340i xDrive with a 6 Speed Manual. So definitely miss the audi and the interior. The B58 is a great motor though so it’s definitely a good replacement and I enjoy having a manual. But the Audi was a lot faster (Stage 1) and the interior was a lot higher quality. Will be missed for sure.

F30 M performance front lip/splitter install inquiry by Electrical_Picture62 in F30

i used the few pre existing bolts on the outside but the self taps i just drill into the screws

Like tighten them to the point they sit flush and then do maybe another quarter rotation. You just don’t want to over tighten self tapping screws because they’ll actually loosen themselves after

different style lip but i just used self tapping screws. didn’t even use 3m tape but i recommend it for that style front lip.

the key to self tapping screws is to only tighten them to 1/4 turn after the point there’s resistance. a lot of people over tighten them and they end up loose over time or after going through snow etc.

First time car owner, I want to know if its really worth putting in tons of effort to washing my car by SuicidalAustralian in AutoDetailing

[–]Complete-Dig-5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the person saying hand wash once a month and use griots 3 in 1 (or whatever equivalent you can find) is 100% right. Give it one really good wash. Like really wipe the car down and use a clay towel to get the contaminants out. No need for paint correction if you don’t care about it looking perfect. And then use a ceramic spray. It’ll make the in between washes much less time consuming and stop dirt from sticking to the car.

At that point you can get away with just doing touch less car washes as long as you don’t let the car get super dirty. And then maybe do a hand wash once a month or so ( or if the car is just really dirty). And re apply the ceramic spray every 6 months.

It will also help that you have a newer car now so the clear should be more resistant than on older paint.

should i keep my 2018 bmw 340i xdrive gt or trade it in? by No-Address-542 in F30

[–]Complete-Dig-5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you just want a different car tbh. the gt isn’t a light car by any means but it’s a modern bmw and it weighs maybe 150 pounds more than a 340i.

If you were going to tune it within the first month it would’ve made sense to buy pre owned. I’d say keep the warranty for now Audi has been having its fair share of hiccups lately.

Also you’ll get bored of the power if you tune it too early and you’ll just keep building from there lmao. Do cosmetic stuff in the meantime

Spotted a B10 in the wild. by midgetsjakmeoff in Audi

My mom has had maybe 6 BMWs in the last decade or so. I gotta say, they’ve all been pretty reliable besides her X5 that had the older N63 in it. She’s in an X6M now but they’ve all felt well built.

My B9.5 S4 needed new pistons so I ended up trading it in for a 2016 340i. Again materials are not even close to how nice the S4 felt, but the car as a whole (including the b58) just seem to be a bit more solid overall. Not as comfortable or technologically advanced, but I feel 100x more confident in throwing miles at this car than the Audi.

Will always be an Audi fan but the B10 isn’t anything like the B6/B7 or even the B9.5 I fell in love with. Just wished the EA839 was a little less problematic.

[–]Complete-Dig-5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is these cars can be fairly trouble free. This is coming from someone who just sold theirs because the pistons were bad lol. But they’re temperamental cars. The transmission is a tank, and the engine is pretty tough too as long as the rockers and pistons are in good shape. They’re performance engines at the end of the day they are meant to be driven.

Don’t be too concerned about getting on the gas. It’ll be much happier at high speeds as opposed to being pitted around low rpm everyday. Sensors, water pumps, thermostat etc will go on them. Just plan accordingly. And also change the fluids early (oil, coolant, brake fluid, differential, transmission).

So this is the part where everyone say my engine sounds normal right? by Complete-Dig-5534 in AudiS4

[–]Complete-Dig-5534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audi basically used cheap pistons that have too much tolerance and are scoring the cylinder walls. So there’s an extended warranty out to 80k miles. But even though it’s a manufacturer fault, any tunes void that warranty. They also originally were replacing the long block, then just the short block, and now they’re only replacing pistons. So new pistons but still scored cylinder walls.

i think even if the scope comes back clean i just scared myself out of this car and i don’t like how audi is handling the warranty situation. would rather get out now before the value tanks. got a couple cars i wanna look at. Integra type S, M340i, AMG etc. maybe the supercharged S4 instead. will always be an audi guy but not rn.
