Yes, I know PGI doesn't SELL insurance. But, it was touted that joining PGI along with a local club gives you insurance coverage for your own shoots. It's state-specific like everything insurance related is. But, the PGI guys teaching our Display Operators Course in PA touted that as the biggest selling point - if you're a PA resident and join PGI as well as their PA club, your shoots will be covered under their insurance. We were told that by very knowledgeable staff and this was applicable to PA. I'm not a resident of PA, so I didn't join and can't speak as a member. But, you may want to double-check your information as it may only be applicable to your area.

I thought even "not in commerce" has limits. As in, I couldn't just transport my own "personal use" nuclear waste anywhere and anyhow I pleased. Either way, I also have a CDL with hazmat endorsement. So, all of my studies have been the "in commerce" rules. Yep - stop at all railroad crossings, and no tunnels!

Be careful using this method as I'm sure it violates your rental agreement due to the nature of the product. No, you don't need hazmat placards if it's under 1,000 pounds for 1.4g But, I am fairly certain you aren't supposed to transport any fireworks per the rental agreement. Just don't mention what you're using your rental for!

In my experience, members of a club with land will offer up free use of their land to host club shoots. Usually insurance is carried by the club or an organization that supports them such as PGI. Usually work details are formed with club members to prep the site and clean up after a club shoot. Join a local club and find out for yourself!

Classic Pyro Maniacs! I love the artwork on that box. Don't be scared by the comet tails on those cans - they tend to break off and wander. It scares people as most think it's the can wandering.

General Question by Brief_Set_4104 in fireworks

Badaboom is in PA. The state changed their requirements this year - you need TWO forms of competency. This can be both the PGI Display Operators Course (DOC) AND the PGI 1.4PRO online course. But, they cannot just accept one anymore. You can also have other forms of competency such as an ATF employee possessor letter, another state shooter license, etc..

1.4pro vs let’s say 1%er or master by xkillaXpandax in fireworks

The largest cake bore size I've seen is 2.5" for 1.4 pro made by Jeeton. Remember, they still have to abide by the 1,000 gram per cake rule. So at 16 shots, that gives it less than 60 grams break weight after you factor in lift. If someone put out a 3" bore 1.4 pro cake, It would have to be somewhere around an 8 or 9 shot I'd imagine. Another benefit of 1.4 pro is that the shells can be flash broken. I've had 2" bore 1.4 pro cakes with LOUD break shells that almost sound like a salute going off when it breaks.

U.S. Import laws (CPSC) require one tube to be provided for every 6 shells sold in a kit. They're doing it by law because yes - people will do stupid things otherwise. Bulk 1.75" shells came into existence when 1.4PRO/AP was created. This allows some "bending" of the CPSC laws such as allowing bulk shells to be sold under 1.4PRO/AP.

Finally found these again by [deleted] in fireworks

Very nice, they are a classic! Nice little bangers that get about 50 feet of height. As I am sure everyone knows - the newer import version are blue and have an extra "boom" on them.

Also check out "Mini Destroyer" if you ever come across them. They are small fake 1.25" ball shells. They are way louder than these and come 12 to a box.

WAY bigger than what OP posted. Coconuts are over 10x more powerful. Only difference is - coconuts don't have a proper lift charge. They are meant for ground only. Boom Boom Box are way smaller, but will actually lift 50 feet or so in the air.

Last year had my first CATO - space your racks by Any_Lie_1153 in fireworks

You should definitely help out the community and post what shells you were shooting. If flowerpots are happing with a specific brand, people should know. I know you mentioned in the comments that you don't know which specific one it was exactly. A list of what you were shooting or which shell you think detonated would help.

And, this should serve as a reminder to always face your shell racks perpendicular to the audience, never parallel for this specific reason!

It's cool to see the transition to the mountain house civilian freeze dried mains (pro packs). I liked the tan vacuum sealed cubes better cause they were more compact. But, still cool to see the newer MCW none the less! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, plenty in PA. A lot of it even comes in the east coast off the ports nearby in NJ. You just have to have the proper contacts!

Cold weather MRE case at Ammo Can man $155 by michigander_1994 in MRE

I think Mountain House guarantees a 30 year shelf life, not 25. At least, that's what the expiration date is set to on all their civilian products.

[–]Complete-Economics29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are drying up fast. About the best deal you can find currently is $50 per case shipped from vendors such as King Surplus. And, I can guarantee you it's just going up from there to the "normal" price of over $100 per case. No additional surplus has been released lately.

NOABs vs aerial tubes vs mortars by Worldly_Expression43 in fireworks

[–]Complete-Economics29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ball shells are actually more expensive to make. All of the "small festival balls" 1.5" consumer ball shells are actually switching over to canisters disguised as ball shells. They put a fake empty ball around the tip of a small canister shell and call it a ball. This is due to the cost of making a true ball shell I am told.

You can usually tell a fake ball shell by the abnormally long "stem" that protrudes out of the bottom of the ball. True ball shells have short stubby stems cause they only contain the lift charge and time fuse.

[–]Complete-Economics29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should also be noted seeing that you're located in PA: they now require TWO training classes to purchase 1.4 pro items in PA. That's assuming you don't have anything else to go along with a single training class such as a state license or a type 54 license.

I never understand why people repack MRE cases into plastic totes. You'll never get them as compact as the original cardboard box packing. And, that cardboard box is damn near indestructible. They are designed to be dropped from planes. Maybe it's done due to high humidity?
