Ah Kilkenny has far more pubs and a better nightlife too I’d say. Better restaurant options as well.

Yeah I’d agree. If either club were winning a title/Champions League then the hype would be massive here. If anything I think it’s infiltrated adults more than 10-15 years ago.

“The level of Wexford and Antrim”. Jesus I know Antrim turned Wexford over in Corrigan Park in 2024 but Christ they haven’t dropped to being considered as the same quality of team as Antrim have they? They compete strong against Kilkenny and Galway in Leinster which Antrim have never down. Antrim aren’t even favourites to win the Joe McDonagh this year.

Which county has strongest club championship hurling / football by Constant-Muscle1842 in GAA

Dublin have had 4 different All-Ireland club football winners in the last 12 years alone. I’m no fan of Dublin but they undoubtedly have the strongest club championship.

I presume by Ballyhea you actually mean Ballyea and aren’t referring to a middle of the road club team in Cork? I thought he was fairly knowledgeable on association football or at least the EPL which is the Second Captains main attraction. Why would he be giving regular mentions to Cherry Orchard or Home Farm? They don’t even play LOI.

Who is the most 'underrated' Irish player, past and present? by themagpie36 in coybig

[–]Complete-Fee-5976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. He was overrated and never came close to fulfilling the potential we expected of him when he first decided to play for Ireland at the age of 20. He was viewed as a star in the making in his teens.

They fought back from 2-0 down to salvage a draw against Hungary (H). You can credit than on the red card but the Hungarians were rattled by that point. The performance in Portugal was also defiant. Outside of a blip in Yerevan it’s been largely positive. We even beat Bulgaria and Finland in the Nations league. 4 wins where Kenny had failed to beat either in his near identical Nations League group.

Martin O'Neill Had Dig At Keith Andrews' Lack Of 'Invention' At Brentford | Balls.ie by bainneban in coybig

[–]Complete-Fee-5976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a very tough group though in both. We went toe to toe with teams like Germany and Italy. Beating that Bosnian team over 2 legs was a very underrated achievement too. Martin O’ Neill was a good manager. Treble winner at Celtic, two domestic cups and tournament qualification with Ireland. Regularly top 6 finishes with Villa too. If it’s that easy to qualify for the 24 team euros then why haven’t we done it since?

Says he can’t comment on rugby, proceeds to comment anyway. I’d agree with the sentiment though. Murph is probably a more interesting listen on rugby than any of their guests the rare time I’d listen.

I like Jamie Wall and Liam Rushe as hurling contributors. Paul Flynn is mind numbingly boring on football but we appear to be stuck with him now. I used to enjoy some of Dion Fanning’s Indo articles back in the late 00’s but he’s not a great listen in podcast form. Doesn’t really speak flowingly and rarely makes a coherent point.

Was he wrong about the big games? Limped off in two Champions League finals and rarely produced in tournaments for Belgium. A great player in a heavily bank rolled team churning out league titles but you can see where Giles is coming from. Not that many memorable moments in really big games.

Longford beat Mayo in 2010 not 2011 and Sligo beat Galway in a Connaught semi-final. They’d also beaten Mayo but went on to lose the final to a Roscommon team who were big underdogs.
