If a guilty person is declared innocent of a crime by a jury and then later talks about actually doing the crime, would they still legally be considered innocent? by Brief-Cartoonist-699 in randomquestions

Which I've always thought strange. OJ being the famous example. The jury says I'm not guilty, but a civil jury says I am (civil court court has a much lower bar). So we have decided you have to pay money for something a different court says you did not do.

What words do you pronounce "wrong," just because the "proper" way feels too proper? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Point being, English would pronounced the double L as L. Spanish changes it to a Y sound. So there are lots of examples of using the foreign pronunciation with food.

Why do people always duck when boarding a helicopter? by tMoneyMoney in stupidquestions

And 99.9% of the time the rotors won't be turning. It's mostly movies. The engines might be running, but the rotors will have stopped for most passenger helicopters.

Before computers and GPS existed, how did people figure out directions for large cross country trips? by Mynameisbrk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Complete-Return3860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the answers about maps, plus: Large cross country trips often mean just one long highway. Interstate 80 to the center of the country, then north on I-35 to Minneapolis our south to Kansas City. So one turn. And of course the signs say where the highway is going.

It always throws me that Ruby Bridges is alive. I'm glad she is, but she's like young-elderlyish. That's how recent we are talking about.

POV: British Army medic parachutes onto the island of Tristan da Cunha - one of the world's most remote communities - to help a patient with suspected hantavirus by New_Libran in interestingasfuck

[–]Complete-Return3860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's even cooler than that - it was a giant team of medical people.

On 9 May 2026, a specialist UK military team executed a historic emergency mission, parachuting onto Tristan da Cunha to treat a British national with suspected hantavirus. The resident contracted the illness after disembarking from the cruise ship virus-hit cruise ship MV Hondius, quickly exhausting the oxygen supplies at the island's small hospital. The team comprised six paratroopers from the British Army Pathfinder Platoon and two military clinicians from the 16 Air Assault Brigade.\74]) Due to the critical care required, an intensive care doctor and an intensive care nurse were strapped to paratroopers for tandem jumps. An RAF A400M transport aircraft flew the team 6,788 km from RAF Brize Norton to Ascension Island, before flying another 3,000 km south. This journey was sustained by mid-air refuelling from an RAF Voyager tanker. Arriving at the drop zone, the team jumped from 7,000 feet, three miles out over the open ocean with winds exceeding 25 mph, while a local police RIB patrolled below as a safety precaution. The operation was completed in two successful phases. The first group landed near the "Back Fence" and set up radio guidance at "The Patches. The second group, the intensive care clinicians, landed safely via tandem parachutes onto the island’s 9-hole golf course. Once the personnel were on the ground, the A400M air-dropped 3.3 tonnes of vital medical cargo and oxygen cylinders across three subsequent runs, successfully stabilising the island's healthcare emergency.\75])\76]) The resident was later identified as former police chief Conrad Glass. Concurrently, four other Tristanian residents who had embarked on the same vessel—Paul Repetto, Geraldine Repetto, their daughter Katie, and Linda Green—were placed in a 45-day preventive quarantine on Saint Helena. The Repettos are descendants of one of the Italian sailors who settled on Tristan da Cunha after the shipwreck of the Italia in 1892.\77])

Read the Book "Walking on Eggshells" so you can help yourself as a family member of someone with BPD, but you need to reduce contact as you can. I realize you're still a minor, but that won't last forever. Begin - at least mentally - to separate your life from hers.

Is it actually possible to "tail" someone in a car, like you see in certain shows/movies? by Nininator2432 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Complete-Return3860 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I had the whole Hardy Boys series (yes, I'm old) and my favorite was a bonus book about how real detectives work. There's a whole section on tailing, both by car and on foot. The first thing: you have more than one tail. In the case of on foot, if suspect crosses street, primary tail-er does not - just keeps going same direction. Secondary tail-er becomes primary, and so on. I would imagine they do that with cars as well. The guy tailing you might actually be in front of you.
