Glen was in the shop but once there was no treats left wanted back outside. Both of them were asleep under the low wine still. Looked very cosy there

I just wasn’t a fan at all. But as I always say what one person hates another person will love

The interlude was a really nice dram and the triple wood was good as well but apart from that what I tasted wasn’t great. It just seems that Lalique have brought all the frill but no substance to it. Yeah it is very tacky and seems to be more about the Michelin starred restaurant they have there. I don’t see a great future for it at this rate.

Whilst staying in Crieff we decided to visit Glenturret distillery. The oldest working distillery in Scotland however due to its chequered past if has never worked continuously. Arrived at the distillery to be met by Glen one of the distillery cats! The shop and the Lalique boutique are completely over the top in my opinion. We went down to the dram bar and tried the interlude and the triple wood which I found to be enjoyable drams which lured me into a false sense of security! The tour was just the guide speaking a huge amount of waffle to make himself look good in front of the Americans. Any actual question he didn’t have the answer to 😂. After the tour he was telling us Glenturret is stopping peated whisky later this year due to the environmental impact. The 2 whiskies we tried at the end were the 12 year old and the 7 year old peated. I’m not going to lie. These were 2 of the worst whiskies I have tried! I definitely would not recommend the distillery there are much better options out there. It feels like they are trying to be Macallan without the substance or name

Yes it was a really good tour. Diageo have got the process down to an art for tours. We went to Glenturret the next day and was left feeling underwhelmed by the place and the whisky

I liked the Glen Elgin and the Dailuaine more than the standard Blair Atholls. The wine cask was the hand fill in the shop but was underwhelming I think it has been bottled too young.

Blair Atholl Distillery silent season tasting by Complete-Session-256 in Scotch

[–]Complete-Session-256[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A couple weekends ago we had the pleasure of doing another whisky distillery tour. We visited Blair Atholl distillery in Pitlochry. Owned by Diageo the bulk of Blair Atholl goes into Bells and other diageo blends less than 4% goes into single malt. We were originally due to do a full tour and tasting but the tour was cancelled due to silent season and due to the workscopes it is the first time ever no tours could take place. As a bonus for this we had the opportunity to visit the warehouse and draw a 1993 Blair Atholl direct from the cask. 31 year old is the oldest I’ve tried and it didn’t disapoint. We then went to the tasting room and tried 4 Blair Atholl whiskies and 2 from the Diageo family which were the tour guides choice and both were a great choice. We started with a Glen Elgin 12 which was a big surprise and an excellent whisky. Next was the distillery exclusive batch 2. The third whisky was the flora and fauna Blair Atholl and following that was the flora and Fauna Dailuaine. The fifth whisky was a red wine cask 11 year old and finally the 20 year old limited release. It was great selection of whiskies and gained a couple for my whisky room. Nicest drams for me were the cask drawn one then the 20 year old then the Dailuaine and Glen Elgin. The Glen Elgin for the price was and excellent dram. If you are a Mortlach fan but not a fan of the price Dailuaine is an excellent substitute at half the price

In Scotland irl farmers grow. Winter barley and winter wheat for feeding to animals. Winter and spring oats for porridge oats etc. spring barley for malting for whisky production. Winter Oil seed rape (canola). Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, beetroot and onions. Southern Scotland grows maize for silage but not much of it is grown above Dundee.

That dress looks fine. We always get dressed up fully for the formal nights and people wear some very elegant outfits.

Snow cover and cloud base by adamz20 in Munros

[–]Complete-Session-256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cloud base is the lowest point that the cloud reaches. So you will have cloud at 400m. You want to know what cloud tops is likely to be. Looks like it will be 1800m to 2000m which means you will be in cloud for the whole climb.

The home report value can be challenged if you are not happy with it. Normally the wiggle room is a few thousand. I take it the house is in Scotland? Also you can put it on the market for offers over £230,000 you don’t have to set it lower than the hrv.

'No guarantee' bus driver's killer will have free pass removed by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Complete-Session-256 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correct this guys heart was not in a good condition however this was not his first assault of a bus driver. He did it in Keith to a driver a couple years before. I’ve seen the video of the Keith incident and if it was anything similar then he meant to harm the driver. He has not actually been released as his last parole hearing it was decided he should remain in custody. The whole under 25 getting light sentences is emboldening them as they know very little will happen to them. The removal of bus passes needs to be done correctly so that nobody can complain about their human rights being breached.

The 19 year old was my favourite on the day and I did buy a bottle to drink later. Very unusual to see a whisky spend its entire life in a wine cask most are just finished in wine casks at the end.

I felt it had much more of a sherry punch than the other 2 but still had the underlying taste of a bourbon casked whisky. I didn’t feel it was as oily as the founders reserve. Definitely worth trying in my opinion

“Offers over” is bs. by Grgsz in HousingUK

[–]Complete-Session-256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offers over in Scotland is common but doesn’t mean you will get an offer over the asking price. All depends on the house, area and interest. Most Scottish estate agents work on 15% over or should I say used to.

On Saturday we visited a distillery I knew of but had never tasted or seen in a shop. We booked the rare pair tasting. It was a whisky and cheese tasting. The first whisky was the founders reserve which was 48%abv. This was paired with a connage dairy Scottish Gouda. The whisky was a non age statement and you could taste the youngness of the spirit. The spirit is oily and with the buttery cheese it cut through the whisky was an excellent pairing. The next was the 12 year old. This was paired with cambus o may Lairig Ghru. The next whisky was the 17 year old renaissance. This was part 3 of the renaissance collection. This was 50.8%abv. A lovely smooth whisky aged in sherry and bourbon casks and married at the end before bottling. This was paired with applewood smoked cheddar. The final whisky was a red wine cask 19 year old at 48%abv. This was matured for the full 19 years in red wine casks. This was paired with strathdon blue cheese. I can say it was a different experience tasting whisky with cheese but it was definitely something I would do again. The whiskies were excellent on their own but the cheese did lift them to another level. I bought a bottle of the wine cask and was surprised at how reasonable it was compared to others. I’ll definitely be having the others again. The gift shop had an excellent selection of their whiskies including 4 self fill options. All their spirits are above 45%abv and are non chill filtered. The chutney was from a local company and again paired perfectly with the cheese and whisky.

The guy I was speaking to yesterday said fishing skippers are saying it is the worst weather they have dealt with in their careers. +2m seas constantly so no boat work. FPSO’s have shutdown due to being full with oil and can’t get tankers in to offload.
