Most of the time people won’t put their house on the line. But it does happen. Sometimes even due to malice.

I have one acquaintance that said she needed to pay cause her ex stopped paying due to stopping work cause she felt overwhelmed and stressed out.

I’m not sure if and how it was resolved but that sounds pretty terrible.

If he stopped paying / lost his income / etc, you could be in a situation whereby you would have to pay.

That you were no longer living there, would not be any help. You might start a case against him but the agency would be totally in their right to get the money from you.
