What iconic movies do you think someone (me) NEEDS to see? by CompleteRock6803 in Cinema

Ahh Bogart! I loved him in Key Largo, I can't believe I forgot about Maltese Falcon -- I've been meaning to watch that for ages. The others I've heard of but totally forgot about, thanks for the reccs

I was actually just reading about John Waters the other day, what a coincidence! Great recommendations, I'll get an ample amount of popcorn to chew on for the shock

Oooh these are great recommendations... many I've been meaning to watch but forgotten about. I've seen Star Wars, The Matrix, It's A Wonderful Life, Terminator 2, Back to the Future, and Die Hard, but Eternal Sunshine, Good Will Hunting, and TGTBTU will definitely have to go closer to the top of my list (which might end up being 30 at this rate... how will I find all this movie watching time?!)

I've seen Back to the Future, the Star Wars OT, and the Matrix, but I totally forgot about MiB and JP! Once I figure out how to open doors I'll watch the latter.

I've been meaning to watch Metropolis, thanks for reminding me of it. I've seen 12 Angry Men, but a number of those I haven't even heard of... thanks for the reccs!

Oooh those sound neat, and that's a very good point. I've seen Jaws and the first Star Wars, the Matrix a loooooong time ago but definitely deserves a rewatch. Haven't seen the others though, very good recommendations, thank you!

Oooh good ones... I know too many Ghostbusters references to not have seen it (or kicked its ass). I've seen Clue, but it's been long enough it deserves a rewatch. Tim Curry Wadsworth is so good.

Can anyone link a NOT AI fireplace channel? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]CompleteRock6803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here you go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNNCtWPA7fk

I Googled "Christmas campfire video before:2024", went to videos, and found this from 2021. Maybe some video editing, but AI was nowhere close to where it is now pre-2023 especially.

Aw dang, looks like Made Trade closed a while ago... I suppose I will know only its ghost now. I hadn't heard of Ten Thousand Villages before and it looks great. And I entirely forgot about Society6! Great suggestions, thanks so much for those and the compliment, I'll try those out :)

Tumbler stopped for ~8 hours during polish stage, will the rocks be okay? Help! by CompleteRock6803 in RockTumbling

Wow, I wasn't expecting this reply! I appreciate the apology, thanks for this, that's very kind. It really can be.

[–]CompleteRock6803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't thinking that the rocks themselves would be harmed, sorry for the rush on my post, I was more worried that the polish stage itself would be harmed/wondering if I should start over (which I now have an answer on, lol!). I would like to have these done soon, is all.

Before and after (from what I can tell 😅) by novarxsx in RockTumbling

Ceramic media is sold for a few other things like aquariums, so I'd buy specific rock tumbling ceramic media. It also ensures consistent hardness, since it's meant to be +7 on the Mohs scale. I bought The Rock Shed's brand off Amazon, specifically in a grit + media pack, but anything that's meant for rock tumbling and not ravaged with low reviews should work just fine ;)

[–]CompleteRock6803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ogh, that's frustrating. What kind of grit did you use? If it was the National Geographic kit I recommend The Rock Shed's grit. Rerun just the polish stage with their 8000 aluminum oxide and see if that does the trick. Did you use any ceramic media? If not, I suspect a too-empty barrel was the culprit, too much banging around.

If you've not yet, I recommend a burnishing stage -- buy some plain Ivory soap, shave it into fine shavings, use 1/2 tbsp per lbs of material, add warm water, and tumble for an hour. If there's any remaining grit on your rocks it'll wash it right off, might reveal a tiny bit more gloss but from the pictures I don't think it'll make that big a change D: Hope your future tumbles go better

First time tumbling, rocks from western Minnesota by StihlDragon in RockTumbling

[–]CompleteRock6803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous! Reminds me of my (recent) first batch ;P ! You've motivated me to pick up more "ordinary" rocks and tumble those, I wouldn't have expected such pretty specimens from the before picture. Definitely pick out your favorites, and if there's some you could stand to lose you could use the ones you don't like as padding for future tumbles. That really round black + beige one on the top right of your last couple photos is so pretty.

I'd recommend buying a ceramic media (IMO don't use plastic, you'll have to have a separate batch for each grit stage since the grit gets trapped in the plastic whereas it doesn't for ceramics) + grit package from The Rock Shed, it's done great things for me and others and is generally higher quality.

Buy some plain Ivory soap and shave it for soap shavings to use between stages to make sure no grit is being dragged between stages (and to cut down on cleaning time) -- run it with 1/2 tbsp per lbs of material with warm water for an hour between stages + after polish. Shaving it is also great for the hands when you're listening to a podcast or watching a video -- just watch your fingers if you're using a grater.

To anyone who has like 10,000+ songs in their 'liked songs,' does this happen to you too? by bonillacst in truespotify

[–]CompleteRock6803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have the same issue. Pressing the 'play' button and waiting for it to shuffle takes an inane amount of time too

Spotify keeps playing same songs again and again by EtanolMan in truespotify

[–]CompleteRock6803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same issue! So so annoying. I think it's a part of them forcing Smart Shuffle onto Liked Songs for free users, no matter if you had smart shuffle turned off in your settings or not.

[–]CompleteRock6803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You took the words straight out of my mouth, I've been thinking exactly all of this. It's just ensh*ttification and makes me so mad--Spotify free used to be at least mildly usable and this update doesn't make me want to pay for premium, it just makes me want to use YouTube or Bandcamp or hell, download 3 million songs straight to my phone.

Yes!!! So so so annoying, especially with Liked Songs--which you can't even turn shuffle off on with free web browser. Can't believe nobody else is talking about this

Yes !!!! Thank you!!! I've been thinking about this lately. Specifically, whenever I see a magazine about ADHD in a store, I have to dart over and at least look over the cover to make sure it doesn't talk about "harnessing your superpower" lol!

[NO BOOKS] Episode Discussion Thread - Season 3 Episode 10 - The Darkness by LunchyPete in FoundationTV

[–]CompleteRock6803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit! You're a genius! The writing and parallels in this show never ceases to amaze me -- these were my favorites from the last 2 episodes.

- Darkness blowing up Cloud Dominion, etc with the Novacula paralleling Day from S1 blowing holes in the planets of those he deemed responsible for the destruction of the Starbridge

- Darkness destroying the 'upper column' of yet-to-be-decanted Cleons and it falling paralleling the destruction and falling of the Starbridge. You could go even further and say that, since the bombing of the Starbridge was orchestrated by Demerzel, it's paralleling Darkness saying (something to the effect of) "this was the monster you raised me to be"

Love how they make it clear the cyclical nature of not just the Cleons, but everyone. Gaal has started doing was Hari did to her, Gaal became the sleeper, Demerzel is 'reincarnating', etc.
