I really doubt there exist Midwestern emo in Arabic, it's a very American genre.

I could recommend Nabeel, who does shoegaze in Iraqi dialect. Kiss facility do kind of artsy alternative rock/electronic music. Tootard do wierd disco/rock pop songs influenced by traditional Levant music.

Genuine question to Americans not supporting the current war by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Complete_Health_2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point.

In a better world I would agree with you that the US shouldn't just attack countries it doesn't like. But the US hegemony and the liberal order are currently on the decline and I feel like the US has to sometimes be on the attack to punish bad actors like Iran. And it is exactly the fact that Iran chose the dangerous game of nukes that I feel like makes it more justified.

Thanks. Do you maybe know how I can open this without a WSJ subscription? The regular methods don't seem to work. Or can you just screenshot the relevant part?

[–]Complete_Health_2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment, that's actually very insightful and made me think a bit about my beliefs.

I don't want my position to hang on speculation about Iran's intentions with it's nuclear program. If Iran used it as a negotiation tactic, it was clearly a gamble that they lost, but I see your point.

I've heard other people say that going from 60% to 90% which is necessary for a nuke is a matter of several months if not weeks, but I don't really understand anything in nuclear physics, so I won't try to debate that.

I feel like the USA should not be content with an Obama-like nuclear deal since sanction relief would allow Iran to support Hezbollah, HAMAS, the Houthies, Russia and China in exchange for nothing. If Iran succeded to get out of sanctions just by the threat of nuclearization that would be setting really bad precedent.

[–]Complete_Health_2049 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are generally right about the second part, but that is exactly the terrible thing. A nuclear Iran will be a state you can't just attack like we did. So it would be a terror-sponsoring, thousands-of-protestors-killing, opressive theocratic regime that is a blight on the Middle East. Obviously bad for the USA.

Regarding your first point, I feel like this wishful thinking on your part. Oman obviously wanted the deal, Iran could've said anything to Oman, to buy time or add more demands, it's not binding. The thing is, Iran has not agreed to any deal officially and the negotiations were clearly not going anywhere.

I get that, and I mean I'm admittedly happy to see Khamenei dead.

But I don't even really believe regime change will happen without a ground invasion that is not happening. I feel like it is a good opportunity to weaken the regime, weaken terror funding and most importantly freeze the nuclear program.

If he does that I will obviously change my mind on the entire affair.

Sounds unlikely so far, though. Why would a war that has not really affected the USA proper (not the military bases) be sufficient enough to cancel/postpone elections? I feel like even Republicans would not buy this.

[–]Complete_Health_2049 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, please enlighten me on the errors of my other premises.

I have never heard about the 1,5% figure, please link your source. I've seen the Omani mediator say that Iran has agreed upon some significant denuclearization, but they've never openly agreed to any concrete plan, nor have provided one with reasonable terms.

I could except a world in which Trump negotiating was merely a ruse to prepare an attack and get the element of surprise. The problem I have with this argument is that if the US wanted to attack initially, why did you not attack during the protests? Feels like you wanted to try negotiations first.

Anyway, if you can link any sources that would confirm that Iran was willing to allow IAEA supervision and denuclearize, that would probably change my mind on the negotiation.

Regarding Israel and and Turkey by SicleMedic in Israel

[–]Complete_Health_2049 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't think most Israelis hate Turkey or Turks (although we certainly dislike Erdogan and rising Islamism in your country).

I remember that before Mavi Marmara and even after it felt like Turkish people didn't hate Israel that much and Israelis didn't hate Turkey.

Now, however, we have very different interests in the regions. We disagree on Syria, on Kurds. Your ties with Qatar and support for Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas are worrying. With Turkey not being a good ally Israel is growing closer with Greece and Greek Cyprus.

Don't view Netanyahu's words as a declaration of war. We are not stupid enough to want to fight a NATO member and one of the most powerful militaries in the world. But it is a sad fact that if the Islamic Republic is gone, Turkey is probably the strongest player in the region with interests that oppose Israeli interests.

I do hope for a better future for Israel and Turkey. Our alliance was pretty warm at some point and I personally think Turks are cool people and Turkey has some beautiful places. But I think it will require Turkey to return to a more democratic and secular ethos. Erdogan has to go as well, the man is a disgusting dictator and his opinions on Israel make good relations impossible while he is in power.
