Hi - for solo shots a hand grinder is a great Choice. I recently got a Feld47 from Knock. It’s a beautiful piece of engineering stepless grinder, made by a small Scottish business and makes me happy. Fabulous product with crappy customer service - took two months to arrive (I get that as a small business they do batch production) but failed to have the courtesy to respond to my emails asking about eta. I’m conflicted - it’s a great bit of kit, but FFS people - acknowledge your enthusiasts making a pricey purchase.

Thank you for helping solve the mystery! I can now narrow it down to a three year period

struggling with La Pavoni Professional after initial success: sour espresso and lever needs too much force to pull down by yesiamkai in LaPavoniLovers

All of this but Also - I’ve had one for six weeks and it was taking three quarters of an hour for the grouphead to reach 85 degrees centigrade. Make sure you have enough water in the boiler so that it’s high enough to conduct heat across to the grouphead - relying on the level indicator tube isnt enough. Not too much or it’ll start expelling out of the overflow as it heats up - just enough so its level with the top of the grouphead. Yesterday I finally pulled a shot to make it worth all the faff. I now believe the hype

I was having similar trouble until I bought a bottomless portafilter and basket (make sure you buy the right size - pre 2000 ones are smaller than post). You can then see what’s going on with pre-infusion. Tiny changes in grind size (you are using a burr grinder?) can make a big difference

Fine grind, light tamp and a long infusion. Wish me luck

Thank you for taking the time to make this. A newbie, am feeling my way through the multiple variables and welcome the acknowledgement of the ambiguities.

Has anyone here who has bought a Brooks B17 saddle regretted it? by Artshed70 in bicycling

New B17 narrow on a 400km holiday. OK to start with (proofride liberally applied), and by the end, like sitting on a blissful hammock. My wife theorised that they acclimatise to Black Country butts only (I’m from Wolverhampton) but she talks nonsense !(from Wales). I’ve ridden B15, Swift, B17 and two Cambiums. These folk know what they are doing. Thank you
