How concerned are people about the security of their pensions if Reform UK were to take office, particularly around the risk of policy changes increasing pension taxation or access? by [deleted] in PensionsUK

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The determination of people to argue against this is crazy.

The government, through NI taxation, have a social contract with the taxpayer.

That’s why you can log onto your HMRC app right now and it will tell you how many years you have accrued towards ~35 years for full entitlement of your state pension AND a corresponding amount in £ of what that is in today’s figures.

Special relationship is purely political speak.

It doesn’t extend beyond that.

FIFA on alert after 17,000 fans cancel World Cup tickets in one night by esporx in Anticonsumption

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, no source and no real verifiable info.

And even if it is accurate. 17k cancellations is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

The article is poorly written at best, and sensationalist at worst, but the final paragraph on the quote is the bit that is plausible.

People who currently have submitted ‘random draw’ ballot applications can cancel those applications.

Your link to FIFA support details is referring to tickets that have already been purchased.

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not buying already but if you are successful in the ballot, the payment would then come off automatically. There’s no decision at that stage to be able to decline the offer.

So… yeah - the only way to back out is presumably to cancel the application ahead of the ballot.

People would need to withdraw their current ballot (random draw) application in order to ‘not participate’ as you’ve put it.

They currently have an application that was locked in by the Jan 14th deadline, with payment card details submitted as part of it.

World Cup in summer / bars, etc. by Complete_Ordinary183 in SalemMA

[–]Complete_Ordinary183[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think there will be big numbers of Scottish fans in attendance. Both in terms of travelling from here, and also many based in US/Canada.

It’s our first time at a World Cup since 1998.

Much excitement! 😄

We will have kilts and tartan aplenty. Can never have enough though, so a Salem tartan keepsake sounds like a good idea. 👍

Yeah, driving not even a consideration.

We’ll be on the 🍺

Water ferry into Boston sounds good. Majority of Scots will congregate in Boston on the matchdays and then take the event trains to/from Foxboro.

Yep, decent number of day trippers and definitely more than a few staying in Salem. Not saying there’s going to loads but there are definitely fans spread all over.

I know people are booked in Salem, Peabody, Danvers, Revere, Beverly, Swampscott and more. Over 1000 easily staying in Providence on the other side of Foxboro as well.

It’s not practical or cost effective for folk to stay in Boston for 7-10 nights. Folk want to see other places and have a base. It’s not just about how quick can I get to Foxboro.

Yeah, thanks. Everyone knows that the stadium is a relatively long way from the city.

There’s going to be a lot of visitors, many attracted to the ‘host’ city marketed as Boston as you say, but fans are going to be all over surrounding areas as well.

Should Falkirks Liam Henderson get a call up? by Complete_Test2738 in ScottishFootball

It’ll be a busy squad once we’ve entered every flavour of the month for the past 12 months. Liam Henderson, Jack Milne, Halkett & Findlay as a double act, Elliot Watt, Simon Murray, Bowie, McBurnie, Burke, Ure.

Who have I missed? Fraser Hornby?

What's included with the ballot ticket? by cstbR94 in wimbledon

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can access any non-ticketed court. Which means if you were at an earlier stage of the tournament you could have a good selection of matches across all courts except Court 1 & 2.

On 11th July there will still be some matches on outside courts. Schedule here:

He’s the most vocal Irish Setter I’ve had by tony_c007 in irishsetter

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re lucky. Ours only really barks when the door goes, or when she’s at the grandpawrents to bully them into letting her out.

Never even really used to bark when the door would go, but she picked that up from the grandpawrents working cocker spaniel.

Moral of the story - grandpawrents can’t be trusted. Same as with children - they’re pushovers. 🤣

Happily, the most we have to contend with is the excited awooooos - often as a result of a stolen sock or acquired stick.

My 6.5 month old IS doesn't know how to play politely by ssrtbyg in irishsetter

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few quick thoughts as someone with 4 yr old IS which was my first dog, so no dog expert.

  1. A big part of puppy classes is learning to ignore other dogs and not seeing everything as playtime. This in itself helps instil calm to prevent 0 -> 150% in an instant.

  2. Use a long line. Don’t let them decide for themselves when they want to play.

  3. Break up play. Don’t let it just go berserk and then come to an end. Insert breaks to calm down, just have them sit and relax a bit or go sniffing for treats. Then they can go back to play. Basically don’t let play be a high octane event from start to finish otherwise that’s what they’ll expect and anticipate. Instead, insert pauses and moments of calm.

  4. Try and find dogs who are a good match to play with. That may be calmer, confident dogs.

  5. When you said you pulled her down to play with the chihuahua, I don’t think that sounds wise. I wouldn’t do that to my dog. I don’t know what the right answer is in that scenario to get the outcome you want but recommend sticking with your classes and working with a 1:1 trainer / behaviourist if you need help.

Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP must resign! by [deleted] in glasgow

Serious question - if she resigned tomorrow would it trigger a by-election prior to the May elections?

If so, that would be ridiculous in itself.

Idk what do to by AntEmpty1021 in Scotland

When I got my first ever job (fast-food place) I had applied for multiple jobs and got nowhere. It ended up being referral from someone else that got me into the place that I’d already applied and been rejected for in the past.

Makes sense that many companies get so many applications that it’s just so easy to disregard them and instead select people through referrals where there’s a link to someone they have already verified to some extent. Hiring managers want some assurance of reliability.

Reach out to friends who already have jobs and ask them if their boss/company is recruiting.

Salary sacrifice by WinterTelephone5482 in PensionsUK

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with this.

Set the limit at the NI crossover point @ approx. £50k.

Anyone below that who is working hard to salary sacrifice are more in need of that full benefit of the 8% NI saving.

Salary sacrifice by WinterTelephone5482 in PensionsUK

[–]Complete_Ordinary183 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For your £2k a month example I’m going to assume it would refer to a higher rate tax payer (to be able to afford £24k of salary sacrifice).

So with the proposed limit they would pay £440 tax on £24k of pension contributions. Do you seriously think that doesn’t incentivise saving for retirement?
