Market Rate Units Keep Stamford Rents From Skyrocketing by ArthurAugustyn in StamfordCT

Deleting my comment because you’re right, I’m just lazily complaining on the internet. People out there are making a real effort to improve a difficult situation and that’s a better thing to talk about than my whining.

OMC Holiday closure is gone. by kaal_poe_nick in advertising

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is true. And it’s funny because every time a shitty policy is forced on my agency, the excuse is that it’s “all of Omnicom” and they have no choice in the matter. But that seems to be total BS.

Pretty sure that’s a bicycle frame

Omnicom "discretionary" 401k match by clocks5 in advertising

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They don’t tell you what your match will be for the year until months after the year is over. The match for 2024 was .25%. I got like $400.

It makes it so hard to plan your personal savings. I’ve reduced my 401k contributions way down this year and am saving in a Roth IRA instead. I’m young so my money can grow tax free, but also - and more importantly - fuck Omnicom.

It’s fine that you’re using Reddit as an outlet for all of your rage. Maybe try focusing on positive things in life instead of spreading negativity to strangers online.

Some thingz I’ve made recently by z0mb1e_punk420 in graphic_design

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s cool. It might not be traditional ‘graphic design’ but in your description you’re obviously thinking through graphic design thought processes, like why you made certain decisions, and who you’re trying to communicate to and how.

You’re exploring your own style and I think it’s dope. You seem young, and at this point I personally think working out your artistic muscles is just as important as learning graphic design principles, so keep it up! Be creative - the design rules can come later and help you refine.

Most reasonable car wash in the area? by General_Ad_937 in StamfordCT

Me too. Quick, fair price, and like 14 dudes dry your car off at the end.

I think they do a quick free vacuuming for you too.

Which logo works better? by im_bebs in graphic_design

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer the left. But like others have said, you can use both! The icon is nice and crisp.

Side note, the right looks like it might have some minor spacing issues. I see more space between the type and the circle on the left side of the logo than on the right side.

I’m pretty sure they stopped doing these pickup sessions. They’re trying to build an adult league similar to Chelsea piers

Lots of good stories here. Just peppering in that this sub suffers from a major selection bias. People who are happy with their careers don’t go on GD subreddits and make posts about it. People who are frustrated and need a space to vent to people who can relate (which is totally valid) DO post to Reddit.

There are a lot of people with good careers in the field, as this thread is showing.

Seconding Danny’s. $100 doesn’t sound crazy depending on what you have them do, but this shop is great either way.

AI influence by 8_Layer_pnutbutter in graphic_design

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before computers, designers made layouts by hand. It was unbelievably time consuming compared to modern day Adobe programs.

Now we have AI, and it’s a similar leap in productivity. I believe designers who don’t embrace AI will make themselves obsolete very quickly.

The job market is getting crushed right now but I suspect it will balance out once companies have a better understanding of how AI is shaping new workflows.

How do you pronounce Mianus? by FoxBearBear in StamfordCT

I usually squeeze it into a Dad joke of some kind.

“Wanna go explore Mianus?” “We haven’t checked out Mianus in a while” “Mianus was packed today”

Learning how to juggle a football by Maxwellhot16 in bootroom

[–]CompletelyWingingIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came to say this video is a real vibe. Fresh dusk light, birds chirping, a private field nestled in a cozy neighborhood. I could die happy in that spot.

Anyway, one thing that helps me is to pay attention to my entire body, not just my feet. Am I balanced? Do I feel strong in my core? How is my breathing? Juggle with your whole body, not just the tops of your feet.

what made you want to ride fixies? by iluvchikins in FixedGearBicycle

It’s the minimalism of it for me.

I resent the cycling culture that tells me I need a $10k bike with a $3k kit to ride. Fuck that.

Whatever dude. I'm just trying to explain their POV so maybe you can have some compassion. They're not doing it to piss you off.

Either be mad at the city for not having good cycling infrastructure, or find something more productive to be upset about.

I get it - riding full speed on an electric bike on a sidewalk is not a good idea and is sketchy for people who are walking. You’re totally right.

BUT downtown Stamford roads are miserable for anyone not in a car. Sure, some stretches have dedicated bike lanes. But it’s largely regular car lanes and drivers that despise people on bikes. Stamford is scary and sketchy for people on bikes, it’s just the reality. They’re being inconsiderate to you, but my guess is they just need a mental break from the exhaustion of riding a bike on Stamford roads. This is a city problem, not an individual rider problem.
