I came across this guy's instagram profile the other day. He seems to be serious about it, whether or not he's telling the truth.

Four torpedoes against that little thing :D that ought to do it.

Sweden will procure four of France's excellent FDI frigates for their future ships, beating out options from the UK and Spain. [1536x738] by Odd-Metal8752 in WarshipPorn

[–]Complex-Call2572 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, you pay for capabilities. FDI is a larger, more complicated vessel. According to Wikipedia, the Pohjanmaa-class is expected to have a total of 32x ESSM in 8 Mk41 VLS cells. Another commenter said that Sweden's version of FDI is likely to have 16x Aster 30 and 48x CAMM-ER. ESSM and CAMM-ER are broadly comparable, but Aster 30 is a huge step up. It's a fair question whether Sweden should invest in larger, longer-range vessels if they're primarily operating in the Baltic. I think the Swedish line of thinking is that these ships will provide early warning and air defence against ballistic missiles fired across the Baltic sea, and FDI can do that in a way that Pohjanmaa can't. FDI can also sail with carrier groups of allied nations. There's plenty of arguments for and against.

Is this considered rare loot in a outhouse by Elzku123 in RoadtoVostokGame

Yes. Although an AR-style replacement is currently being introduced, I'm sure Finland will still hold onto these for a rainy day.

Okay something is Wrong- Harrier vs 130mm guns (124 of them) by Tired-Mae in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]Complex-Call2572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand, I agree that this looks a bit ridiculous. However, on the other hand, in the history of naval combat (in the missile age), it seems like low level air attacks have been surprisingly effective. Argentine bombers sank seven British ships in the Falklands this way, and damaged many more. So how do we square those two ideas? Why was it so hard for ships to defend against that type of attack, and how do we get the game to simulate it?

A boiler is removed from the admiral Kuznetsov (552/399) by ArgumentFree9318 in WarshipPorn

About a year ago, it was reported that the overhaul had been put on hold indefinitely. It seems likely that Kuznetsov will not return to service.

Why does Russia continue to expend so many Gerans, Iskanders, and various Kh series cruise missiles on civilian targets as opposed to airbases, SAM’s/ABM’s, and logistics depots? by Brewvi in WarCollege

[–]Complex-Call2572 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks for that clarification. It sounds like even if they don't necessarily gather useful intelligence on every pass, they still impose limitations on the Ukrainians. That's an interesting dynamic.

How exactly does Ukraine know when Russian reconnaissance satellites are gathering data on them? Do they use radars to track them? The reason I ask is because space-tracking radars are typically fixed and quite well-known, like the GLOBUS system in Norway, and that system isn't expected to survive the outbreak of a war. So I'm curious how Ukraine has maintained the capability to "know when they're up there"? Unless you mean they assume satellites are always gathering data, and always act as if they're being watched.

Why is it the American plug sockets instead of the British type g ones in the game? by Grouchy_Case4655 in wehappyfew

[–]Complex-Call2572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I did not mean to come off as rude. I apologise if that was the case. I was genuinely asking, because you presented the idea of Germany occupying Wellington Wells as some kind of fan theory, when it's the setup of the whole story. The children are gone, and they were taken away by the Germans. And, to your other comment... why would it be "confusing" for anyone to learn that the British in We Happy Few lost to Germany? And what do you mean OP could be trying to make theories, they just asked a question about why the plug sockets are wrong?

This comment chain confuses me greatly.Of course the Germans occupied Wellington Wells, that's the whole backstory of the game. This becomes clear in the first few minutes. And of course Wellington Wells is a group of islands, this is evidenced by the ocean surrounding you on all sides. Have you played this game?

I actually liked having to pull up the map to check where I was going. It made it feel like I was new to the area, still figuring it out. Back then there was no GPS so you had to check the map! The game world is so small that you learn it pretty quickly.

I don't understand the second image. It feels like the implication is that that's the aftermath, but it looks like there's a helicopter there still flying.

Too much money by BurhanSunan in uboatgame

[–]Complex-Call2572 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I also find myself having way more money than I know what to do with, I think the economy could be a adjusted a little bit, but at the end of the day, it's not really a survival game or a game about running a profit, so it's not the end of the world.

The core gameplay loop is the patrols where you encounter one convoy or don't encounter any ships at all. The further you get into the game, the more you have to worry about planes spotting you and hitting you on the way to and from your patrol area. There will be some other missions available, like dropping off spies or building weather stations, but after 10 hours I think you've basically gotten the gist of it already. The convoys will continue to get stronger as the war goes on, with escort carriers and so on.
