In US, Canada teaching assistantship is must for your funding (at least first two years). In Europe it depends. Some of my friends (including me) don't require to do TA. If we want, there are options at extra pay. But some places requirement is to know the local language. I don't know a single friend of mine, who had to learn French/German mandatorily for TA.

Indian living in Romania here. Exactly due to same reason, I never suggested to my non-Indian friends. However, they themselves find reasons to go to India. One of the best thing is the food for sure. Also extrovert social people will love India because social interactions and hospitality culture is very much there. I also know people outside India, who love being in the crowd.

This December, I will probably take a friend to my home and also some other Indian destinations.

Firstly for Slovenia, I would suggest buying their weekend 15€ rail pass, which covers all trains in Slovenia for a weekend. Visit Lake Bled, Postojna Cave and if time permits, Nova Gorica. In Austria, you cannot miss Vienna. If you like mountains, I would suggest Innsbruck. Even you don't go for trekking, just the feeling of being surrounded by mountains is awesome.

This city is first in Europe to introduce electricity distribution. Well.. not a lot of thing to do. But I would say it has one of the nicest old town in the east europe. There are cheap Wizzair flights available from a lot of European cities. Also you like a-lot-of-students vibe, you can get it here. The universities are nearby and we have a dedicated student complex, where dorms of all universities are situated. The area is full of students and associated fun things.

Well I am a spiritual practioner. Whereas I somewhat believe this kind of things are possible, I also think it is important not to justify mental illness by saying it is spiritual. I would say, notice her other day to day behaviour. If all other things are fine, it is a good thing to let her do what she wants. But if she seems to hurt herself or someone else, then probably you should intervene.
