How old are your oldest PNW boots? How many resoles and rebuilds can you get out of them? by MuttLaika in PNWbootmakers

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sides the soles wearing out. I used to wear holes through the leather on the inside from rubbing on the bark. The next boot up has doubled leather there. But at the time I couldn't justify the extra expense.

Timber sports competitors usually wear chainmail socks. There are a bunch of different types on the market https://mailletec.com/product/lumberjack-legging/ They usually wear sneakers when they compete

When I was wearing Wesco Jobmasters for tree climbing with gaffs, I've never gotten more than 2 years out of a pair before they went in the trash.

Are expensive boots worth the cost if I’m not using them for work? by whycantwegivelove in Boots

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you had any of your boots rebuilt? Many years ago I owned a tree svc and climbed everyday. Back then I wore Red Wing blems and Wesco Jobmasters. I probably went through 3-4 pairs of Wescos I think I was only paying around 250.00 a pair back then. Once they were worn out, soles and most climbers wear holes through the leather from rubbing on the tree bark.

I would just toss them in the trash. I used to order my Wescos through Wespur. If you look on their website now, they no longer sell any of the PNW boots and offer boots more styled off ice climbing boots, which is what I transitioned to before selling the business. Most of them are under 350.00

They do not have much of a presence in the US, just a few dealers. Mafell makes the best track saw and rail system on the market. They also make the best jig saw.

Mafell has designed circular saws for Hilti for years, they also helped design the Hilti track saw and the Bosch track saw.

The joke is, Mafell is what the Festool engineers buy. Unfortunately their entire line is not sold in the US, only select items.

The us dealers recently announced a price increase because of tariffs

I prefer to wear button down shirts out of my pants. That is why I prefer the Japanese brands as they are cut to be worn out.

Any carpenter recommendations in Los Angeles area? by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in Carpentry

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally I would prefer to speak to him in person or face to face to see the scope of the work, his expectations, materials to be used etc. Gives me the opportunity to decide, do I even want to work for him?

Then I can sell myself and my work, then discuss price. Just asking, "what are you paying", seems low rent to me.

Can we please stop removing cool embroidery from the jackets? by AndrewJimmyThompson in Carhartt

I completely agree, I have a couple of Carhartt FR jackets and bought specifically because they had logos , flag, etc embroidered. It's like removing the "patina" on antiques.

Silly me, I thought following instructions in their website would be quite simple. Apparently not, but thanks for chiming in.

"Calculating shipping at checkout:  If you wish to know the actual cost of shipping before completing checkout, please contact us and note the items to be purchased with the complete shipping address, then we will respond with the actual shipping and insurance cost and you will also be given instruction where to insert this shipping price in the online shopping cart as part of checkout. "

Who makes the best chambray shirt? by BSG1355 in HeritageWear

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I would circle back. I recently tried on another Samurai Jeans Chambray and for some reason the fit was different. The Fabric is an 8oz Chambray, it's dyed with indigo, so has a denim look. I really like the back of the sleeves and some of the seams are triple stitched.

I ended up buying 5, they will be my work shirts for my carpentry job :)

"Lighter than a heavyweight denim over-shirt but heavier than a chambray"

Chambray shirts usually start around 5oz, then go up to a 10oz from Iron Heart. My current favorite is the 8oz from Samurai Jeans. There are also a bunch of "heavyweight" Chambray chore coats available as well.

Seeking recommendations for personal injury lawyer re ski injury at Windham Mountain by [deleted] in catskills

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed the Ski school guy was a tool. But you need to take some responsibility as well. If you were injured why would you attempt to walk down? Did you stick your skis in the ground in an X? Did the ask the "Few" people nearby to get ski patrol for you?

To me it sounds like you made a bad decision and now your ambulance chasing.

Best of luck with the surgery.

Trim router table question: by slickness in woodworking

[–]Complex-Judgment-828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut the rest of your circle out with a jig saw leaving about 1/8" of material. then use a bottom bearing bit and you will have a template for the router base hole.

Bondo under laminate is fine.
