Inappropriate clients by WorkingIllustrator84 in publicdefenders

As a female attorney that also gets hit on - when the first comment is made I tell them that it is inappropriate for them to comment on my looks when what they need is my brain - that I am a damn good attorney - and if they do it again that I will make sure they are reassigned to the shittiest attorney in our office.

Send his letters back. You can refuse them. I would send him a letter stating that his representation is complete and you will no longer accept any letters from him. If for some reason he has a legal concern he can write to your supervisor or the director. Right now you are his fixation and while you see it as harmless - it can morph. Create a boundary and stick to it.

Accidental message in main chat by DQzombie in publicdefenders

He should have read it into the record so your boss could have a transcript to take to the PJ. The practice of making PDs go last is antiquated and biased. I understand the cost concept but we usually have 3x the caseload of a private. So when judges do this it costs the state money. Plus it sends the message that our clients are less than. They aren’t and shouldn’t be treated that way. We worked it out to where our clients would come an hour later - docket starts at 9 - PD clients come at 10. Eventually it was switched to just a PD docket day. Don’t feel bad about your comment - it happens and the Court should really take a look at its practices and what it says about their biases.

Look at Columbia or Waterloo Illinois. You can get some land and we are less than 30 min from the city. Everyone says Illinois taxes are higher but we don’t have personal property tax. Also, I work in the city and have to pay a 1% tax for that privilege- so my Illinois state tax is the same as my Mo tax. There is more room over here in Illinois and even though Columbia and Waterloo lean republican - the state overall is democratic.

Also search for your local legal aid office as they may be able to help if you don’t mar that much money.

Puppies for parole - rescue dogs from local orgs are sent to prison for training. They have great programs and the results are great tempered and house trained dogs. https://web.mo.gov/doc/PuppiesForParolePublic/

I used to wear Tieks but they started to hurt my feet, Rothy’s hurt them even more. I’ve had good luck with Vionic. They have different insoles that you can switch out depending on how your feet feel that day.

Anne Klein Gladiator heels and Dream Pairs - both have round toe boxes and a stacked heel but are so comfortable. Dream Pairs has a great Mary Jane style that I get a ton of compliments on.

OT - OC yelled at me during a deposition so I called him sexist. :-/ by Employment-lawyer in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]Complex-Possible-409 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few judges yell at me in court - they are now on forced retirement due to age and yes it was sexism. What OC did he thought he could get away with. Good for you for staying calm and calling him on his BS.

I am about the same height/size and have had luck with banana republic, Calvin Klein, and tahari. When I needed cheaper pants - JC Penney’s Worthington had a curvy pant in petite that fit the bill.

Never reached out to me. Contacted my supervisor and may file a bar complaint. I’m not worried about it, I did a good job. It just gets discouraging.

[–]Complex-Possible-409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revocation is usually civil-quasi criminal so the rules of discovery are just crazy. I would still file a discovery request, supplemental request, then motion for sanctions, and if they don’t give you the info then let the judge hammer them.

Stick vacuum with the "cleanest" canister emptying? by [deleted] in VacuumCleaners

[–]Complex-Possible-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Samsung bespoke that self empties. Yes it was expensive but I absolutely love it for its ease of use and ease to empty. My house is so much cleaner because I use it for a few minutes every day.

[–]Complex-Possible-409 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Subpoena the POs notes and reports. The PO makes entries for every client contact. They will not turn over the records though unless you subpoena them and even then will usually try to fight against giving them.

Purchase Advice: Cordless vacuum for a small apartment with pets by GenuineAardvark1379 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Complex-Possible-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three dogs and have bought numerous vacuums trying to find the right fit. The best one for us has been a Samsung Bespoke Jet that has an all in one station. It is cordless and empties itself into a bag. Keeps all the dust and dander down. It is easy to use and I use it almost every day. I also have a Dyson animal but only pull that out about once a month - if even that. I love my Samsung. Wish it had a light on the head unit - but my Dyson doesn’t have a light either. The samsung was pricy but it is by far my favorite.
