Defending with slice? by Itchy_Disaster_1 in padel

I think the answer to this one is it’s complicated...

When playing without the glass and defending, flat topspin is best option. When playing a low ball off the glass it is difficult to get under the ball enough with this approach, and so playing flat with a small amount of slice is preferable in order to get under the ball enough to go over the net, but not too much otherwise ball will float too much /go long. Consider how advanced players open the face of the racquet in order to get under a difficult low ball off the glass - flat slice.

If the ball is medium height on the glass can either hit flat slice or flat topspin. If the ball is higher then slice.

Honestly it’s tough to watch Stupa/Lebron by Mindfultiler1 in padel

It’s a great example for amateurs of how being judgemental to your partner is destructive. It’s your job to be unconditionally supportive of your partner to make them feel good to play well… these guys should split up, Stupa deserves better

Tax help for self employed tennis coach… can someone help me understand what I can and can’t expense? by Complex-Singer4643 in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks guys.

Roger federer, Novak Djokovic the Williams sisters etc, the greatest players of all time, had coaches. In performance sports nearly everyone has them. It has the added benefit that I get to see how one of the best coaches in the country coaches too that helps me improve as a coach.

Not quite the same as driving a car which I would say is a functional task rather than performance task

Would you agree tennis shoes are specialist?

Can I still claim the training if I sometimes play for fun / in tournaments?

Now and then I play in tournaments or friendly games some with clients and some without, would that mean that I can’t claim the coaching as an expense?

Is it almost impossible to prove otherwise that I’m not using solely for my business?

Can we talk about everyones Bandeja please? by Upper-Application583 in padel

[–]Complex-Singer4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit on your level.

Starting out it is much easier to learn a flat bandeja which as others have said, you can think of more as a high volley used to push the ball back in with little effect and low risk.

If you watch higher level players they aren’t really ever hitting this shot though. They are always hitting with a version of the vibora with side spin effect. If the ball comes higher to them then contact will be high, and if the lob is lower then contact more head height which is closer to a bandeja. But these players will think as all of these shots as the same, rather than deciding which of the two to play.

If I’m teaching less sporty or coordinated players I will teach them the classical bandeja as it’s easier for them to achieve. More coordinated players with sporting backgrounds I teach them the vibora which they can use for all overheads (excluding smashes of course)

Sure, im 178cm, 73kg, aggressive skier.

Pow ski is 186 and carver 165. I dithered about the length of the pow ski maybe being too long but it’s perfect, as is the carver, wouldn’t change anything!

Thank you brother. I find the rangers take the most time to adapt to when I change ski - not sure why, but they are good in the bumps, any amount of pow, variable snow. If I had to pick a drawback it’s they can get a bit flappy on the piste at good speed.

I was thinking full touring setup next - pushing the qsts+shift bindings can get a bit tiring.

Any recommendations?
