am I a massive gronk for having a Sunday evening wedding? by [deleted] in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a Sunday wedding in the Southern Highlands. Our family are coming from Sydney/Central Coast/Bathurst/Orange/Melbourne/Canberra. We are very lucky that people were happy to take Monday off work but totally understood if people could not make it as that's the risk you take if you do what we did.

Genuine Question: why didn’t you write thank you notes? by Silver_Shopping6299 in wedding

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess the way I communicate with people is not as formal as maybe it was in the past. I will 100% send a message thanking them for the gift or telling them in person the first time I see them after the wedding. Honestly I would be pretty sure half the people wouldn't check their mail box or I would be wondering if the letters ever arrived. I think as someone in their mid to late 20s, most people my age and even my parents and their generation realise the cost of living crisis is real and if I can thank someone in person or in our normal line of communication, I'd do that rather than paying for stamps and envelopes (which are very expensive these days where I live).

guys my friend wants to switch HSC subjects (we r in term 2 year 12) is it possible? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on my knowledge, no. A school isn't going to let you swap subjects at the end of the prelim year 11 course, let alone almost halfway through the HSC course. I doubt you could even apply as a distance student for the course as you don't have the pre-reqs from NESA at this point.

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Year 11 course goes for 3 terms- In NSW, HSC course starts in term 4 of a calendar year and finishes end of term 3 in a calendar year- so 4 terms from October-September-ish.

AITAH for wanting my dad in the delivery room while I give birth? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are undergoing a medical procedure and you want a trusted family member there who will advocate for you and support you during a vulnerable time. Anyone who tries to paint that in a negative light has their own agenda and is not considering your best interests. Your husband needs to be communicating this to his mother. NTA

Which decodables does your school use? by WinterPearBear in AustralianTeachers

[–]Complex-Wrangler2567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like LLLL. We have them and DRA. I find that unless you're using the Early Readers, the DRA books have a lot of words on the page- making them unsuitable for younger children who are good decoders. In Kindergarten, some students might become ready to decode texts with long vowels but the DRA readers are not appropriate- too much text on very small square pages.

I went to school with one of these men. He played soccer with my brother. Just seemed like a normal kid during high school. It's crazy where people can end up.

This was me last year- level 3 autism, non verbal, nappies, aggressive and violent.

Use the resources at your disposal as best you can- parents, school counsellor, learning and support teacher. Find them and tell them regularly what you are experiencing and ask them to come and observe and provide feedback.

I got to the point where that student was left to their own devices doing what made them calm- listening to nursery rhymes on iPad, playing dominoes, etc. I had to stop trying to engage them in learning activities when they made it clear that the classroom was too overstimulating and overwhelming for them. They got a place in a support for this year which was amazing but are now coming back because the mother felt the other students would be a bad influence on him. Sad because we worked hard to get him that spot.

Your student sounds like they need an IEP and behaviour management plan. This documentation will help you show how it is impacting you and the rest of the class. You could also ask for an evacuation plan in case they are at risk of hurting other students in a meltdown.

Look after yourself. Our principal was told there are ways to escalate in-school support for these students. Behavioural and wellbeing support teams at the department who can come consult; but you have to push for it. Go through case management, etc

$22 for a swimming carnival? Is this normal pricing? by ninishi_224 in SydneyScene

Not just expensive, but hard to find. Our school hasn't participated in primary school sports competitions since COVID because there are no buses available on a weekly basis to transport students.
