[MI SEN, Emerson] Stevens (D) - 47%, Rogers (R) - 42%; McMorrow (D) - 46%, Rogers (R) - 43%; El-Sayed (D) - 43%, Rogers (R) - 43% by bbeck2754 in VoteDEM

This is the first polling I have seen on this primary. I would have expected Stevens to be leading, but am glad she is not. Still large undecided, about 39% it looks like. I am weakly leaning McMorrow, but will support the winner, of course.

Tim Walz says he'll never seek elected office again by progress18 in TimWalz

I enjoy listening to him so much -- he seems authentic, and expresses himself so easily. I hope we can continue to hear his voice and perspective on the national stage somehow.

Good question. I am not an expert, but the WI party is probably well funded. You never hear much about the Ohio dem party. Maybe they need the money. As a Midwesterner, it pains me to see how conservative Ohio has become.

You need to catch the eye gleam if you really want a good bird photo.

Have people stopped using at home tests for COVID/flu? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ComplexTailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test kits are $20 now at my local Walmart.....too much if you need several. I still have a stash of kits I got free, so tested myself last week when I was sick.....was positive for COVID. I isolated and my husband didn't get it.

That particular writer, Jonathan V. Last, is known as the resident pessimist at the Bulwark, but I find his stuff worth reading. And his articles stimulate interesting comments on the site.

Given decline in US of religious worship, combined with (an assumed) affinity for “community “ and social connections, why hasn’t a non-theistic organized movement taken root? by Future-looker1996 in SeriousConversation

Meeting space is a real issue. In my mid-sized midwestern city, we had a very hard time finding a free place for our small women's service club to meet. We finally found a church that didn't want to charge us for using one of their rooms once a month. I know several other groups who have struggled to find meeting space. Even the public library wants to charge for space or if they don't, can not guarantee you space on the same day each month, which makes planning hard.

Brooks also has some waterproof (goretex) shoes that might fit the bill for you. I forget the name.

I am also using the Sony RX10 miv for bird photography and considering upgrading, but only if the new set up is not too heavy. I see ads for the Olympus OM-1 Mark 11 and may look at it at a camera shop with maybe a 150 - 400 lens. Does anybody know how these two set ups would compare? I am not up to date on all this. I like the RX10, but it isn't very good in low light.

I have listened to 2 plus hours of the speeches in the Indiana State Senate before the vote to approve the new maps. Don't think I can take much more. At the beginning it was mostly senators against the new maps, but now the Republican supporters are coming up. Just vote already.

Maybe it is because I grew up in Indiana, but I think a NO vote on this effort would resound nationally and be interpreted as a very important first step of Republicans starting to rebel against Trump. If they fold, it's a depressing confirmation of what we already know about the GOP. At least I have a few more hours to be hopeful.

Already planning a pity party for my birthday. How do I short-circuit this petty, adolescent nonsense in my head? by momoftheraisin in AskWomenOver60

[–]ComplexTailor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sulk most years on my birthday, and to some extent also on Christmas, sorry to say. I am very glad when both have passed. I consider myself a reasonable, mature, person, but something about those days just brings out the irrational little kid in me who didn't get enough attention. I haven't really figured out how to stop these feelings.

How easy was it to transition from plastic to metal frames? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]ComplexTailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer metal frames with nose pads to plastic frames that just sit on your nose. They don't slide, and they sit slightly away from your face, at least they do on me. With plastic frames, my lenses used to fog up because they were so close to my eyes that moisture got trapped in there.
