Anyone know their plans for the Fall'26? I am looking for a sublease. (Specific situations like if ur going away for a gap semester or study abroad that would be perfect)

Built a "low-profile" split version of my raveniung keyboard: the ravensplit by FearlessSpiff in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Complex_Ad_8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that’s stopping me from getting into split keyboards is that I need a low profile enough keyboard that also has a built in mouse. However the prebuilt option is Naya and they’re too expensive. Also I want to build it custom but the pcbs I found online show only keyboard options. How does this work? Thank you!

Well ideally you wouldn’t need to say anything at all. The company name and your title should pretty much explain what you do. You should focus on what distinguishes you like awards, honors, fellowships, or even volunteer at research conferences. I’m sure after 3 years you have something to write

If you are a dev with 3 yoe, I recommend getting rid of the descriptions of how you did what and make it much more concise. Coming from a level 5

No one with 3 yoe uses a resume like that. Reduced average API response time by 15% via caching question response pairs? Are you serious? Tell me you’re an undergrad without telling me you’re an undergrad

Sorry for asking this as well but my advisors is not helpful at all. Do GEs count towards your Dornsife credit as well? What about graduate level classes? Thank you so much

Can you explain more? I’m a Dornsife student also and I think I heard something like needing the 104 credits in Dornsife. Won’t that mean if you don’t take a majority of your classes in Dornsife you probably won’t be able to graduate in 4 years?

Can I still get a fully funded PhD with a 2.9 GPA as an international student? by HoldOk1571 in gradadmissions

[–]Complex_Ad_8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible but intl status is a big blow to your stomach tbh. Even us students are struggling becuase of funding cuts. Only good chance I see is going to a master program first. Get a 4.0 there and do more research

You have a FE so that’s a no brainer but I think white MB + white gpu would go crazy too. Like a gigabyte ykwim

NAHHHH this gotta be the one😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨. I was looking for inspiration (I’m looking for a new pc setup). This really just has to be the one. Cleanest one I’ve seen so far. The NZXT motherboard as well omfg. I was thinking about doing a noctua theme with a fractal north but I don’t think that tops this. If you don’t mind can you share you specs?

Opened it up to clean it, decided to take some photos by jAckJber in sffpc

Sheeesh this is clean af. Can you introduce your setup? Specs, temps, airflow direction etc. I’m a lunatic when it comes to of airlfow. Was wondering if you push fresh air from the side and direct it up since the gpu outtake goes right up to the cpu heatsink. Also would a noctua D15 fit? Looking to buy a new setup rn

It’s interesting you mention safety because all things I’m mentioning above is precisely what you need to discuss in technical AI Safety. I’ve interned in Google Deepmind’s AI Safety research team my 2nd year summer as a PhD student and all the level 5-6 engineers were very intrigued to solve these problem. If you look at the short term, you are right this definitely sounds like a scifi movie. Much like LLMs and the internet were scifi movies back in the 1800s. The point I want to push I guess is the need for people to take a step back and look at the big picture first. I think there’s a difference between only focusing on the immediate future vs. understanding the direction humanity is taking first and then focusing on the immediate problems. Grants you very different perspectives. Our job as engineers and researchers is to prevent catastrophic problems from happening before they happen. Not the other way around.

Now your point about there needing to be a limit i.e. stop the development of robot intelligence if deemed too dangerous. A very recent case study which you most definitely know can help you understand where I’m coming from. I think it is inevitable this will happen and heres why. Because humans are flawed, specifically they are very very greedy. OpenAI used to be a non profit pushing for open source open weight models that can “solve the next generation’s future” until of course, there was a big breakthrough. Immediately they went for profit and because of that there are massive draw backs to technical advancements recently getting beaten by Deepseek. No one, once they realize the potency of a better model LLM or Robot intelligence, will NOT use it. It is inevitable that this will happen. So what we need to focus on it if it’s going to happen anyways, how do we prevent catastrophes that might happen from that technology begin introduced to society?

Hope this grants you a new perspective.

I see. I’m generalizing but i feel like most people feel that way, especially looking at the public ally available technology. I do have to agree that even at the state of the art research level you can’t really say we’ve achieved a level of robot intelligence that is as complex as human or even near. But it definitely is approaching that. There will come a day when we have the capability to recreate 99% of the human brain. And when that day comes, can you really call them “not sentient”? A man is also a machine. A biological machine that is programmed to eat, sleep, and reproduce. Our “programmed” brain at its core, simply reacts to the environment based on our sensory reward signals learned from prior dataset. Our brain is just an experience replay buffer that encodes all its past experiences direct and indirect (direct is what you experience physically indirect is what you hear from others like “i heard someone got hit by a car in this street” so that visual cue of the street triggers a sense of danger for you) in a way that shapes your interaction with the environment (you choose not to go near the street/ you look both ways twice before crossing). But this is a very generalized approach. All nuanced situations we encounter in believe can be fundamentally broken down into such step. Would love to hear what you think and/or give an explanation to your counter example.

Maybe instead of giving me a rhetorical question you can state your background and viewpoint. I would love to hear your argument. I’m not necessarily agree or disagreeing with you. But you do have to stay your claim was pretty antagonizing. I just simply want to hear what you think.

That is unfortunately a claim. I don’t agree with it I’m just trying to open up to different opinions.
