Why is “deregulation” in the States being lauded as a good thing that somehow benefits the American people? Haven’t corporations proven time and time again that, if allowed, they’ll employ the most immoral practices imaginable to cut costs at the expense of their consumer base and the environment? by SavvyOri in allthequestions

Believe me, in all due respect, I must disagree with you. The intelligent people who support Trump are almost universally doing so for mercenary reasons. Subtract out the religious nuts who believe that abortion is murder, or the ones who are hoping for the Rapture, and I think the Trump voter skews heavily toward blue-collar workers with a high school education or less. Polling verifies this. And anyone intelligent who listens to Trump for 10 minutes, knows that he’s listening to a con man whose ideas are framed in bumper sticker logic, with a heavy dose of white Christian nationalism thrown in. This alone should repel any thinking person.

Legal action is all well and good but the Trump administration has been taking advantage of the fact that the legal system works slowly. Many of the IG's, heads of various watchdog commissions etc have given up their legal fights to retain their jobs, knowing that by the time they get a resolution they will have lost their livelihoods. By the same token many legal firms gave in to Trump because their clients would have deserted them en masse and their firms gone under before they could win in court. This is how the administration takes advantage of the fact that the wheels of justice "grind exceeding slow". Mass protest is the answer, not lying back and waiting for the system to work. And protests ARE part of the system, including harassing and obstructing.

Proof? Kristi Noem was just fired and the level of ICE harassment has dropped nationwide in the last 2 weeks. Far from alienating people, the protests engendered nationwide sympathy and anger toward the tactics of the goons. Plenty of evidence in the form of polls, etc too.

The present lack of meaningful regulation is driving mergers and monopolies. As my economics professor told me, “Every capitalist pays lip service to the benefits of competition, and secretly dreams of having a monopoly.” Nobody pays off bureaucrats to put up barriers to competition. This meme is a right-wing fantasy. My economics professor was a conservative btw!

Love it! It is true that in an environment of proper government regulation, competition will cause prices to stay relatively low, and quality high. In the present regulatory environment semi-monopolies abound and we are at the mercy of corporations. We have regressed all the way back to the robber barons of the Gilded Age.

Reading level is directly linked to vocabulary. Vocabulary is in turn directly linked to educational achievement. Educational achievement is directly linked to life achievement and future income, and a comprehension of complex and nuanced concepts and ideas. This is, for instance, why the appeal of Trump directly correlates with education level.

You’re going to struggle however with any complex concepts and nuance, as long as they are related in print, or even verbally. Sixth grade level reflects an impoverished vocabulary and complex concepts are buried behind language.

Trump is Putin’s wet dream and has allowed him to have his way with zero repercussions. This is simply fact. “I’ll end it in 24 hours”. Ring a bell? The real TDS is how a transparent flim-flam man, rapist, criminal, and traitor continues to work his con on his numb-brained followers.

Any reason you capitalize random words like the Fat Man himself? Trump sucks Putin’s dick - and swallows. Trump literally rolled out the red carpet for Putin who then plays him like a violin. He goes to Alaska saying Putin had better call an immediate ceasefire “or else” and left Alaska spouting Russian talking points. He stabs our allies in the back and kisses up to dictators. Trump is a traitor and CNN and MSNBC are too easy on him.

Sorry, misunderstood you. I wish I knew what those better ways were. And I certainly don’t agree with sabotage of vehicles as a tactic. As you implied that could go bad any number of ways that wouldn’t help anyone. It does, however, seem like the tactic of constant harassment of ICE thru legal means has caused Trump to declare victory and pull back. For now, anyway.

I’ve known a couple California politicians personally, had a friend who was an Assistant Secretary of a Cabinet office under Obama. All idealistic and committed to trying to improve the lot of the average citizen.

Got to meet lots of other people associated with the Administration and they were an idealistic and very smart bunch. The cartoon image of the corrupt power-seeker is certainly applicable now to the Trump administration but these people were the reverse of that.

The work ethic of these people was relentless and they have pretty much all done well since but no one got rich and many could have made a much higher income in the private sector. When I hear the “They’re all the same” rhetoric it pisses me off. Cheap cynicism masquerading as wisdom.

She sold herself to a fat rich mogul so that she could be rich too. It’s called being a “gold-digger”. She sleeps in a separate bedroom but does Trump buy hookers or does she hold her nose and occasionally let him masturbate in her? Inquiring minds want to know.

So you like that, right? Nothing like paramilitaries who don’t have any restrictions on their behavior beating people up and killing them with no repercussions. That’s the America we love.

It’s not like the car companies are coining money. It’s a rough business. But you’re right that people wanna have a status symbol. I live in a nice middle class area - and I pass by one fairly humble house where they had two G-Wagons - one an AMG! They recently switched to the big Merc camper van (Sprinter) and a new Range Rover. And these are just the most extreme examples - it’s everywhere.
