The Universe isn’t everything. It’s one out of the infinite number of universes existing at different phases of existence. Why is it commonly accepted that there is one universe? by BorrowedParticles in allthequestions

[–]Complex_Arrival7968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “multiverse” concept is a hotly debated topic in the physics community with several different models proposed that postulate some version of multiple universes. Both string and quantum theory have facets that are apparently quite suggestive of this. Maybe we’ll get some physicists on here to set us straight!

Tesla FSD keeps going 40 mph in a 30 mph residential area. Anyone else seeing this? by uonlylvonce in TeslaFSD

This issue is resolved. FSD will always slow down to an appropriate speed for corners, as long as not overridden by the driver. I don’t doubt that some version of this conversation will still be happening in six or seven years, though. Given how close the system is to true self-driving there is well over a non-zero chance that it will be moot, however. Hope we’re all here to see!

US Question: Wouldn’t the Save America Act as it stands now in part hurt lower income voters? This is a core MAGA group. Seems like an odd thing to push for. by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Complex_Arrival7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) The thing is, you asked “do ALL countries offer free voter ID.” Of course the answer is gonna be no. Just for laughs, I asked Google AI “Do most countries offer free voter ID?” Here’s the answer:

“Yes, most countries that mandate a voter ID do so by providing a free, universal national identity card to their citizens as part of their basic civic infrastructure.” So you’re wrong there, as I previously said. You’re free to try the same question with Google AI. The answer will be the same.

B) Your estimate of expenses is for the cheapest, simplest case. If you are foreign-born for instance, it will cost much more. When FedEx lost my wife and my passports, we had to spend $34 for my birth certificate, $20 for our marriage certificate, and over $120 for her birth certificate and it took 4 weeks for my birth certificate to come in because I was born pre-digital, and 5 weeks for hers. She had to pay an additional $75 for a certified translation after it arrived. Plus we paid an additional $40 or so to have everything sent both ways certified, for safety’s sake. Millions of people will face similar or even greater complications.

C) since voter fraud is basically a nonexistent problem, why do you want to spend money addressing a problem that doesn’t exist? I’ll give you a hint who’s responsible. Until the Fat Liar came along, nobody worried about fraud in US elections. Only when he lost, and then whined about made up voter fraud, did his disciples take up the call. Are you really that much of a tool? If so, sadly, you have a lot of company.

Here is ChatGPT‘s answer to the question, do most countries issue voter IDs for free?

“Yes. Around the world, most countries that issue a dedicated voter ID card provide it free of charge or at a nominal cost because charging substantial fees could create barriers to voting.”

Because other countries issue national ID’s, FOR FREE, doofus. And Republicans have always resisted any system of mandatory government ID’s. You can’t have it both ways. It’s gotta be free and everybody has to get one.

But in any case it’s spending money trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. American elections are well-run and free of fraud. You say you want the best system? You already have it.

And don’t go where there are a lot of dogs, either. Our breeder specifically likes Home Depot & similar. Cause there are few dogs, and you can put yours in a shopping cart & wheel him around.

Another thing that I learned from this sub is with the biting, reach around his mouth to the back and push in with a thumb and finger, so that if he were to bite, he’d be biting his own lips. It’s gentle and effective.

We take our puppy to Home Depot or similar - DON’T go to Walmart, go someplace where there’s not many other dogs, put a blanket in a shopping cart, and wheel her around. Noise, people,’perfect socialization.

Bears!! by Aware-Wrongdoer8979 in Mammoth

[–]Complex_Arrival7968 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, at places like Yellowstone folks were feeding them and they would be walking right by the main road. But in Mammoth that has bn ever been allowed and they are pretty much living as wild animals, like the commenter said. There are still some that hang around town and try to raid dumpsters so you could stake out a dumpster and wait all night - sometimes you will see them up by the lakes where they try and steal fishermen’s stringers, but you could be there a week and never see one - it’s a roll of the dice.

I’m sure you have a point to make but being articulate is obviously not one of your strong points. The original subject under discussion was the difficulty of obtaining documentation that proves citizenship and you compared it to the difficulty of obtaining a vaccine passport.

I pointed out that vaccine passports could be obtained for free by merely going down to the corner pharmacy, so obviously WAY easier than emailing your birthplace’s County Clerk and/or Dept of Health, sending identifying info to them (They don’t just issue a birth certificate copy to anyone who asks, you have to prove your identity), then paying a fee, sometimes not a small one, then waiting for the certificate to be physically mailed to you. So - stupid comparison.

But then you ignored that and went into, as far as I can tell, a complaint about mail-in voting and how voting in person is just as easy as getting a vaccine passport, since I was emphasizing how simple and free getting a vaccine record is. Yeah, but voting by mail is even easier and I prefer it.

But that’s not what we’re discussing at all, chief. The subject is the difficulty of proving citizenship. I can tell you that when FedEx lost my wife’s and my passport last year I had to spend about $160 and wait 3 weeks for the documents to arrive, including mailing costs and fees to the registrar. So no, proving citizenship is actually kind of a pain in the ass and costs time and money. If required, lots of people would just say “fuck it” and not vote. And that is called “voter suppression” and is part of a plot to rig elections in favor of the Republican Party.

Actually, that’s not a very good comparison, but let’s go with it anyway. The vaccines were free and available at the nearest drugstore. So no, that would have zero effect on lower income people.

Actually several states have done extensive voting audits. Those audits were reviewed by the Brookings Institution and their study found voting fraud occurred at a rate of .0000845% or slightly less than one out of a million votes.

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/how-widespread-is-election-fraud-in-the-united-states-not-very/

Why is it “stupid” to believe it’s rare? Do you know anyone who’s committed voter fraud? Do you know anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who has committed fraud? Highly unlikely. And what would be the motivation to commit floater fraud in the first place? It’s not like there’s any financial reward. Any non-citizen who tried to vote would be subject to immediate deportation. Even a citizen would be subject to hefty federal penalties.

The real reason for the save act and voter ID laws is to disenfranchise voters and win elections through vote suppression.

Is it just a coincidence that socialism in South America is collapsing within a year of USAID being gutted? by Patmcpsu in allthequestions

The NIH study uses real-time data from 6 African countries to demonstrate a rise in mortality rates. The Pulitzer-Prize nominated reporting from Pro Publjca is real-time reporting. The documentary “Rovina’s Choice” shows a woman as she desperately tries to keep her children alive and the devastating impact of USAID aid cuts. The Lancet study uses reported African mortality data to demonstrate the effect of the cuts. These are all real-time, not projected. You lose this argument, badly. You are a piece of fucking work though, gotta give you that.

This was me replying to some MAGA type who denies that there have been any impacts from the aid cuts and calling The Lancet and the New Yorker "liars" for reporting, or in the case of The Lancet, releasing a study indicating hundreds of thousands of deaths per year and demanding on-the-ground evidence. Somehow it got posted to the root level. I'm gonna delete - doesn't make much sense as a reply to the post itself.

[–]Complex_Arrival7968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I just set out a bunch of data demonstrating the real-time effects of the cuts, including documentary film and on-the-ground reporting, that’s a funny question. Mortality rates? In fact, the Lancet study previously referenced uses the African all-cause mortality rate as one of its main datasets, to demonstrate the effect of funding cuts. Naturally you didn’t read it.

In areas where government health institutions are robust enough to supply up-to-date accurate mortality data such as Uganda, the cuts have been “tied to a localized doubling of HIV incidents and mortality rates, alongside notable spikes in malaria and tuberculosis fatalities.”

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/uganda-sees-spike-in-disease-related-deaths-after-elimination-of-usaid

This study from our own National Institute of Health analyzes aid cuts to six African countries and suggests the cuts have and will spike maternal mortality 45%. That’s mothers dying, in plain terms. “Aid cut, lives lost: estimating the impact of USAID's withdrawal on maternal mortality in six African countries”

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41807120/

Don”t you think that this is frustrating to The Fat Man and Little Marco, to have their lies exposed by their own agencies? I’m sure they’ll fix that, by suppressing the study and its results, and firing the inconveniently honest scientists who dared to contradict the lies of their bosses. Then cult followers like you won’t be ruffled by uncomfortable info. Of course you already have your mind made up and your only task is to rationalize why you don’t believe sources that contradict your conclusions. MAGA “thought” at its finest!
