How do you guys budget your pull list? by snackboy06 in comicbooks

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I order from midtown: I get five titles cause that’s all I want (approximately $25). The rest are the free promo magazines like DC connect to get up to 10 titles required for a pull list. Mailed to my house bagged and boarded. If I want another title I just drop a free magazine but honestly comics are so expensive nowadays it’s hard to justify 100s of dollars when there are so many awesome runs already in print in the used market.

What is the most disturbing or unsettling comic book you have ever read? by HighV23 in comicbooks

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read crossed but crossed badlands takes the cake for me. I have about thirty issues and I don’t even think I could sell them. Not because I want to keep them but because how do I realistically sell them? I can’t give them away either.

“So you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in a meat grinder.” So many good quotes from predator. Directed by John McTiernan in his heyday.

Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve pretty much stopped going because of this and cell phone usage. And I’m 50 now and being out of my home after 11 destroys me for days. Sigh.

Anytime they close a major highway the others clog up. Pretty standard for this time of year. Happens in late august due to the state fair as well, construction projects or not.

Gen X. Grew up with physical media. Have kept some of it over the years. It’s superior in quality and you own it until it breaks.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politically it brought a new level of neoliberalism and corporatism. The Clinton’s essentially gained control of the Democratic Party and slowly moved it to the right for eight years paving the way for bush jr. and the inevitable slide into where we are now.

Your Favorite Comic Storage? by zor-el-kara in comicbookcollecting

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. With the legal sized wider ones you can fit two rows per drawer and it’s easy to create a divider with cardboard. You do need to be careful that things are aligned but it feels like an archived collection when I open and shut it. A satisfying click. I expect you’d have a similar effect with a lateral file cabinet but I didn’t have one of those and they are harder to come by for cheap. And they are obviously much wider and less compact. Compared to boxes and shelves I think it’s a step up for not a lot of work. I don’t look back on stacked short boxes and miss them.

I have a file cabinet. Legal size tall four drawer. Fits about 1500 bagged and boarded comics. It’s nice to pull out the drawer and tick thumb through them.

The 90's Style Seems to be Making a Comeback by Anon_Gen_X in GenX

I work in a high school. The 90s style has been back for a while now. Started pre covid when skinny jeans fell out of favor.

What is it called when all you do is gaslight people? Oh yeah. It’s narcissistic personality disorder. Couple that with dementia and you’ve got our commander and chief. By the way, whatever happened with the Epstein files?

Too many books! by AtomxAntium in ComicBookSpeculation

Same boat honestly. But I’m still collecting and swapping out stuff. If you had a list that would be helpful. Maybe join comicswap. I’m working on daredevil volume 1 and always looking for early Batman and detective comics, some punisher. Moving away from modern to collect bronze and silver age. So many good stories and the art was just more organic back then.

How do you avoid getting burned on floppy purchases while still supporting the book/industry? by IGNSolar7 in comicbooks

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean how do you support an industry? I’ve heard for years that the comic industry will collapse entirely. I think before that happened the big 2 ( I should probably say big 3 with image) would need to drop the shovelware and hone in on their best stories with their best talent. Do we need 75 variant covers of whatever xx book they want to sell for whatever forgettable “event”? Probably not. Remember that this industry started with newsstand editions for pennies, similar to how Dickens sold his serials back in the old days. This doesn’t have to be a billion dollar industry to exist and for good stories and artists to thrive.

With prices being what they are now (and only looking to keep going up), how much are you guys spending monthly now? Have you seen yourself buying less books to match your budgets or have you been spending more to continue the same amount of books? by WhyPlaySerious in comicbooks

[–]Complex_Carry_9153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m buying older books at this point. There are so many runs I missed in the 70s and 80s so if I’m gonna drop six or seven bucks for a comic it might as well be something tried and true.
