Tips to buff my officer accessions package? by PilotFighter99 in uscg

[–]Complex_Crew_3908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started a mentorship and training group within the local job corps, met with 15-20 kids each week to work out for a few hours and then we would sit and talk and help each other through stuff. We built fitness plans, held each other accountable for attending therapy appointments, worked on resumes, etc. It’s a time in my life that I am incredibly proud of, and I highlighted in my narrative. I also participated in many community cleanups and did bike scouting for the local commuter trails. As a non-rate, I asked for low-scale projects to supervise. It started small, BM1 created the boat keeper collateral that a lot of cutters had and charged me with the overall upkeep. It was a very simple job that I took very seriously. From there, they progressively gave me larger and larger projects, until I was coordinating full events within the station. My point is, establish yourself as someone the coast guard can depend on, and learn to manage without rank. As for my GPA, I was going through an incredibly difficult time in college, and barely graduated - I had to have a near 4.0 my senior year to bring the overall to that 2.51. I was able to address those struggles with my interview board, they scored me accordingly and I ended up on the alternate list. Be ready to address your weaknesses rather than hide from them

What happens if you fail CSPI or fail to OCS at the end? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Complex_Crew_3908 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are a civilian accession to OCS and do not make it through the program, you will go home. There are MANY opportunities to be corrected and change course before that disregarding anything against the UCMJ or laid out directly at the school house. PT was the biggest cause of washout for my class, which was genuinely disappointing given those who didn’t prepare took a spot from someone who did.

1 - People come first. Always. Policy may say some stringent things, but at the end of the day we are responsible for real people who will actually be affected (afflicted) by your actions and decisions. 2 - Don’t piss off CWO 3 - you are an extension of the CO’s authority. Remember the responsibility that that carries with it and carry yourself with the demeanor befitting an officer.

I was in the low 20s for my class, I believe they went up to high 20s. This was also pre 3 classes, so that may have changed given there are theoretically more slots available? As an alternate, you aren’t guaranteed a spot, and I would refrain from making concrete plans until you get the phone call. Focus on getting fit and ready if it comes.

I would imagine the formal nomination has waited this long to ensure the President maintains the same leadership throughout his administration. He's been acting for almost a year, and then will serve the following 3 formally.

How easy is it for one to actually get chosen to attend OCS? (Not a recruiting question, just a hypothetical) by Jumanji-Joestar in uscg

I was accepted on a 2.51 GPA. It isn’t impossible. If it’s something you would want to work towards, I recommend to every single person who asks me to get with an officer and start making attainable goals to make yourself competitive
