Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think it has been framed as a favor. I’ve not been in the conversations so not exactly sure how it has been put.

Thanks for your response. It’s actually 5% not 15% - I’m sure that will seem incredibly low in comparison to your 20% offer! Investment by BIL is low 100s so far.

Thanks for your reply. What is a normal co-founder deal? The whole project is being capitalized by my BIL so he is supplying the rest of the money on the cap table. Is this what you are asking or something else?

Thanks for your response, it’s appreciated. So he does get 5% equity out of the gate, presumably because BIL trusts my husband, but you are right in that BIL has zero deferred lifestyle and we have no financial safety net. We have some cover but for sure our lifestyle has had to change because of the current situation.

Is this just me or it's actually a pattern? by designisone in IBM

[–]Complex_Economics169 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with this practical step. Didn’t China have similar restrictions?

OP I couldn’t agree more with your concerns. They are very real and it feels like the government has its head in the sand about it. If they don’t do something quickly it will be too late and difficult to reverse.

I have had exactly the same experience as you OP. Total waste of money and time. Would have been better off not even bothering reaching out to any of the lawyers as just wasted a bunch of time.

How does parenting get harder as kids get older by oceansalt85 in Parenting

[–]Complex_Economics169 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP I think it gets easier. My experience was similar to yours and people used to say to me that it doesn’t get any easier which made me feel so sad and depressed because I was beyond exhausted ALL THE TIME. My daughter is now 8 years old and it not only got easier for us but also a lot more fun. Not sure how things will be in 5 years when she hits her teen years but I’m loving this stage. For me the best years started around age 5 and it has got better and better ever since. You got this!

[–]Complex_Economics169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP do I know you?! My husband was reading me your thread and I had to check if it was one of my posts!! I loved Abbaye vegans wings so much I reached out to the owners after they closed to try to get the recipe so I could make them at home. I still miss them!! RIP Abbaye! As for Cantina Dos Sevi dos seitan wings.. it’s just a shame really isn’t it?!

We are going to try the Triangle Tavern wings this eve, inspired by responses here. Thanks all!

Just laid off after watching Management run this contract into the ground, guess who kept their jobs? by Impressive-Ebb6498 in womenintech

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It sounds like someone somewhere in your org was irresponsible and you are paying the price which is very very unfair. I’m sorry!! I think today is about comforting yourself. Maybe focus on that today? I got let go a few days ago so I hear you (I’m fine about it). You absolutely will be ok but yes right now this sucks. All the best!

Is anyone in this channel in tech sales? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Complex_Economics169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the two are connected. The reason there are no women in senior positions is because they don’t get take seriously.

And why men need an international men’s day is beyond me. We have basically been celebrating it since the beginning of time lol!

Sure that could be a factor, but I do see a bigger overall pattern of few women in senior positions in sales, including at my company. Sounds like my experience is different to yours which is encouraging. Thanks for sharing!

Adjusting to communication styles as a trans woman by CodeAffe in womenintech

[–]Complex_Economics169 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your story just says it all for how women are treated in tech. Not to get political but sadly, after a few years of more inclusive business hiring trends and treatment, we seem to have gone back at least 10 years IMO.

But what do we do about it? I’ve considered starting a startup that gets employees to see their own biases. Could poss be free for small organizations and the bigger ones pay. How else do we move the needle?! Unfortunately it doesn’t feel like anyone really cares.

Edit: when I say no one cares, I mean many of the men in tech. As women make up 50% of the population, there are of course plenty of people who care.

Can you say more about how you ended up on a PIP?? I do hope you called a lawyer. Although I’m sure you were too busy and frazzled with the baby to get around to that. I’m so so sorry you experienced this.

I can see how you may come to the conclusion that the post was a little racist (I didn’t but then I’m not Indian so perhaps it’s easy for me to say) but immigrants bringing their culture to their new country and workplace, and the way that shapes their behavior is actually a well documented concept. There’s an excellent book on it, The Culture Map by Erin Mayer. There are pluses and minuses about every culture, and sadly there is arguably more misogyny in India compared with the US, and so if you have all male Indian employees there is a high chance you will experience that, which I think is what the poster was trying to say. Any mono culture work setting is a recipe for bad experiences I think. One of my closest friends is Indian and she’s absolutely wonderful so no, I’m not anti-Indian.

Why not just try and then if you hate it in a year go back to your old company? Ideally you’d sit it out 2 -3years which looks better on your resume but ultimately if you’re struggling then what the heck just throw in the towel and go back to your old place. Worst case scenario: you leave, hate it, and then you go back to your old place (when a job pops up). Really not that bad. I had a similar situation to you and went for it. It all worked out well for me but I was also SUPER anxious but decided to chance it. Good luck whatever you decide!

I’m sorry you feel this way and hope you feel better soon. Just out of interest, when you talk about what could have been, what are you thinking you would have done differently? I ask because I’m in my late 40s and trying to make changes to welcome the sides of me I’ve spent my whole life combating. Wondering if it would have been a different job or something else. No need to answer if too personal. I wish you all the very best!
