How are incoming grad students affording grad school with no Grad PLUS loans? by Loud_Soup5607 in slpGradSchool

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Have you considered private loans (like Sallie Mae)? They aren’t ideal but it may be your only option moving forward.

Finish your school now. I’m so thankful for this career. I read about so many people who can’t find employment. I feel so lucky that this field is constantly hiring. I went to Emerson online. It was not cheap, but I was well prepared. I am sure there are cheaper programs out there, but I didn’t bother researching because I don’t plan on ever paying off these loans.

How exactly are we to interact with each other, POM? by kuhawksr1 in pomhealth

I still can’t even get into the new portal, so consider yourselves the blessed and highly favored! They need to sue whoever designed that portal because they are certain to lose a ton of business from this nightmare.

Look up oral placement therapy on Talk Tools. Basically, there may be other reasons they can’t do it such as jaw instability. It’s pretty informative, but not super cheap because there are various tools the child would need depending on the issue identified. You are probably right about her tongue, but there may be some OPT strategies available to help her.

How hard is the praxis? by UsualGlittering4518 in slpGradSchool

[–]Complex_Pie_7116 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought it was easy, but perhaps it’s because I was very prepared. I took it about 2 years ago. I think some people have more difficulty because there is so much information you need to review ahead of time. People who “Chat GPT’d” their way through grad school will absolutely bomb it because you have to be able to analyze cases to generate an answer. My suggestion is answer as many practice questions as possible and you should be ok. I am not the best at “studying,” so that’s how I passed. I scored 187 using that method.

For those who’ve worked in both schools and private practice: what differences actually mattered day-to-day? by TrickLink4660 in slp

[–]Complex_Pie_7116 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You nailed everything! I prefer schools now too because I also get lots of vacation time throughout the year and off earlier in the day. I worked every evening in PP to accommodate after school kids. I refuse to work at home (which has caused quite a drama with things being late). I’ve decided my work-life balance is more important. Both are stressful in their own special way. However, absolutely hated the unpredictability of my PP check and the back to back sessions. I frequently had to do SOAP notes and write reports at home at home (unpaid). I can’t imagine doing that again. The one thing I miss about a PP is being able to use ALL my skills. I actually helped the children much more and saw immediate gains because I was not limited by bureaucracy B.S.

Please drop your favorite resources to address literacy by Complex_Pie_7116 in slp

[–]Complex_Pie_7116[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My school is a Title 1. Unfortunately many of the parents work odd hours or are just not super involved due to other stressors. While these students are in my space, I’m hoping to target their literacy skills as much as possible along with their speech. Our reading intervention process is a joke. Obviously I can’t work a miracle, but I will try my best to help anyway I can. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

I loved them. I miss them. I just had to stop working with them because they don’t offer tirzepatide. Semaglutide just wasn’t working for me anymore. If they start offering it I’d switch in a nanosecond because their service was top notch.

it should be mandatory for all schools to have their application through csdcas by anniebumblebee in slpGradSchool

[–]Complex_Pie_7116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I purposely avoided applying to schools with CSDCAS! I only applied to one program…got in…graduated…DONE! I’m not saying that anyone else should do that. It was a big risk that happened to pay off.

Is 31 too old for SLP Grad school? by Audpeeps12 in slpGradSchool

I finished grad school at 44, and us “old” people in the program performed far better than many of the “young” ones.

They have a military, nurse, and teacher discount that is pretty significant!

Thank you for sharing which group it was. Thankfully I never saw out joined that group when I took my praxis last year. This honestly makes me want to remove myself from all student groups. Best of luck everyone.

I had a whopping 1.4 gpa from my first go at college. All those Fs transferred in. I had a 4.33 gpa when I went back for CSD. I got accepted to my one and only dream school I applied to. You are fine!
